Feels like I keep coming out

We come out many time through our lives; but how about coming out over and over to the same person...?

I have this [no longer]friend who lives in Peru. She is 40 years old, separated, with a child. A few months ago I decided to tell her I'm a lesbian and she took it very well, she sounded pretty supportive and she made it clear that she'd always be there for me. Fast forward a week: she calls me to see how I was doing and asks me if I'm still gay. "Yes... and I'll always be gay...for the record". She went on to ask me if I dressed like a man now (?), I was as patient as possible, and explained to her what it means to be a homosexual and how it makes me feel. I was getting frustrated so we changed the subject.

Fast forward again to last week:

ExFriend: So you're still gay?
Me: Last I checked...
EF: I don't understand, how come you're a lesbian now, all of a sudden?
Me: I've always been this way, I just needed time to come out to myself first and understand my own feelings.
EF: It's just that you're too old for this...
Me: I'm 23!!! And you're never too old to be true to yourself.
EF: Don't you ever wanna get married?
Me: Sure!
EF: (giggles)
Me: It's legal here in Canada. Didn't you know?
EF: Oh, I get it, you're gay because it's apparently OK. If you still lived in Peru, you wouldn't be gay.
Me: (WTF!)
EF: Don't you wanna have kids?
Me: Yeah. Sure. After I get married. Maybe we'll adopt, or I'll carry our baby... That's something we would discuss...
EF: Do you think it's fair to bring a child into a "same gender" family?
Me: [click.]

And that is how she became my Ex-Friend.

Now, I don't think I'm overreacting. I explained as much as I could to her, about being a homo. I figured, she's just ignorant, let's enlighten her! She's a mature, educated woman, I'm sure she'll understand! But no. There is nothing else I can do for her, and her feeling betrayed, because I didn't tell her I might be gay when I was 14; when I was 14 and going to school in Peru, to an all-girls, catholic high school, run by homophobic nuns who expelled five 16 year old lesbians because their "disease" is "contagious".

Screw them, I say. If this is a disease, please don't give me medicine.

Amen to that!

Amen to that!

Disease?

Disease? WTF! You are right, we don't need medicine.

A friend is someone who understands your past. Believes in your future, and accept you just the way you are.
