Not sure where you're getting your "information" and it doesn't really matter. I enjoy watching the show and see where things go. I will say this however... if you get your wish... then I'm pretty sure IC can say goodbye to a season 6. Because, like it or not, TiBetter's are the majority viewers ....and if she gives them a big FU at the end of this season ... I can pretty much guarantee the won't be around to take anymore.

The drama combined with humor this season is phenomenal. If we are blessed with a Season 6, is there ANY way to write Dana back into the show? She is so great with both. I know it's not something that would ever happen in reality (especially since she died of breast cancer), but this isn't reality; it's TV. Even more, it's Showtime. The fans can accept any and all.
You are great writers so I'm thinking there must be some creative way to bring Erin Daniels back into the mix of characters. That's assuming she's up for it. I’ve just noticed in the posts that the humor, electricity, and camaraderie she brought to the show is sorely missed and, although I know some fans will scrutinize, I think most fans will just be grateful.
With or without, still loving the show! Thanks so much to all of you for bringing what you have to us!
Ilene, for some reason I feel a lack of trust regarding the Bette and Tina reunion. By trust I mean your intent. Please don't bring these two together just to have them part once again. I've watched 506 many, many times, especially that second scene with TiBette at Tina's (new?) place.
Does anyone know how IC did that shot where we see TiBette in a two-shot sitting at the table and then the camera moves into the bedroom and finds them in bed.
Every time I watch it, I try to see if I can detect a cut or a dissolve...something, but I can't see it.
I'm beginning to think that the shot of Tina walking to the table and the two-shot of them at the table were different and the second one had a green screen in the background and the bedroom was composited into the shot later.
That's what I think. Are there any filmmakers/film aficionados who have a different, more educated take on this?
If kind of driving me to distraction and, frankly, I have things to do. lol

We did it with a locked off camera. We shot the first scene, with Bette and Tina sitting at the table, with the camera locked in position. At the end of the scene, Laurel and Jennifer sat perfectly still for a moment as we did the little camera push. Then, they got up from the table, we moved the table out of the way with the camera still locked in position, and we set up for the next scene. Once we were lit and ready to shoot, Laurel and Jennifer got onto the bed for the next scene, and we did the camera dolly shot through Tina's loft to find them on the bed.
That was done very well and almost seamless. I rewatched the scene after reading this. Did you film yourselves doing this scene? I think that would have made an interesting podcast. Thanks for answering that question :)

I was also wondering how phone conversations are made. Does someone reads the answers to the actor while doing the phone convo? Or is it just a matter of good cut? I hope this question doesn't sound completely idiotic.
I hope it's not an idiotic question cuz I was wondering the same thing.:) I'm guessing it varies from show to show, but I'm curious as to how they film them for the L Word. For example, in 506 when Tina was on the phone with Bette asking if she wanted to meet her and Angie at the Planet for breakfast. And then again later when Bette called Tina while she was at the Planet with Alice and Shane. Were they really on the phone with each other, or was it propped? How do they do that?
My take is that they rehearse these conversations together, as a whole, between the actors and when shooting, the actresses basically recite the whole conversation from the other end in their head - for timing purposes. I guess someone could read from the other end, but wouldn't a mic pick up that sound coming from the other end?

I saw the video of you at UCLA and just wanted to thank you for "not running away from the chemistry between these two actors" (JB & LuH)
And thank you also for allowing the characters to "take on a life of their own". I'm not sure, but I think that's how it's supposed to be.
She already gets more screen time then other core characters. Characters like Tina,Helena and Kit have had there screen times cut drastically, be happy you at least get 3/4 of the show with Bette, those that like other characters have to do with seconds of screen time.
Just speaking for myself, JB is the only reason I watch the show at this point. She brings TLW to a whole new level with her performance. She's just so stunning and mesmerizing to watch and brings a real sense of authenticity to everything she does. Her character just feels real and relatable with all her flaws and vulnerability, while being someone I totally admire.
I wish it was the Jennifer Beals Show.;)

Jennifer does take top billing. She has paid her dues to achieve that billing and to forget it would be remiss.
While it is an ensemble cast, the two main characters of the series are Bette and Jenny. The first word spoken in act one of the pilot was “Bette”.
Let's think about how Showtime promotes the show. When they send actors on talk shows to promote TLW, who do they send? Nine times out of 10 they send JB. That has to tell you that, even if she is not thought of as the star, per se, TPTB at Showtime know that she has a better chance of getting attention and getting people to tune in than, say, Kate Moennig or Leisha Hailey (nothing against them).
I think it has to do with JB's name. People still remember "Flashdance," Heck, I know I do. Yes, this is an ensemble show, but of all the names in that ensemble, who do people know? Speaking for myself, before this show aired, I'd never heard of the other actresses, whether I'd seen their work or not. JB and Pam Grier are the ones I knew and those are the two the network sends out to promote the show. Lately, Cybill has been doing promos for the same reason: name recognition.
JB is one of the few (maybe the only) cast members who has promoted the show by herself. She is certainly the one they send out most often. I think that speaks volumes about what the network knows is Miss Beals' popularity.
I've said it before, but it bears repeating: if there's no JB, there's no wordswork02 watching TLW. Yeah, there are other characters and other stories but, to me, they are like commercials during regularly-scheduled programming. I can take them, leave them, or go to the bathroom during them.
If JB gets paid more than everyone else...well, that's just capitalism, whatever the market will bear and all that stuff. Good for her. She's been languishing in the wilderness of indy film far too long.
And to respond to someone's question as to why JB isn't an "A-List" actress: thank God she isn't. Do you think an A-List actress would accept a role on an ensemble series on pay cable? I think not.
Could you see Angelina or Charlize Theron or Halle Berry doing something like that? I can't.

In my opinion Jennifer is an "A list" actress....have you looked at some of the people she's worked along side?
She's said many times that she doesn't want to be as famous as say, Julia Roberts. I don't blame her, some people just like their privicy. But I'm sure "The L Word" has opened up many more doors for her in reguards of film rolls. I just don't think she is the type of person to chose somthing just for money, it's more about substance.

Thats part of the job that JB has, due to her name she will be out promoting this show,CS sure isn't the star of the show and she does more promoting then JB. that doesn't mean she is the star of the show. During emmy considerations, JB,LuH and Mia are submitted for Best Actress catergory by shotime. Laurel makes herself available every year to hundreds of fans, promoting this show at the conventions. Shotime isn't sending her out, but she makes the time to do it, and makes herself available for the fans. Same goes for Leisha and Kate.
JB already takes up more screen time then anyone else, why ask for more, she already gets screentime and more, which is cutting the screentime of others, how fair is that, when the show is a ensemble show.

And thank you also for allowing the characters to "take on a life of their own". I'm not sure, but I think that's how it's supposed to be.

The L Word is not The Jennifer Beals show
She already gets more screen time then other core characters. Characters like Tina,Helena and Kit have had there screen times cut drastically, be happy you at least get 3/4 of the show with Bette, those that like other characters have to do with seconds of screen time.
JB is the show for me...
Just speaking for myself, JB is the only reason I watch the show at this point. She brings TLW to a whole new level with her performance. She's just so stunning and mesmerizing to watch and brings a real sense of authenticity to everything she does. Her character just feels real and relatable with all her flaws and vulnerability, while being someone I totally admire.
Not to mention, JB is fucking gorgeous.

Jennifer does take top billing. She has paid her dues to achieve that billing and to forget it would be remiss.
While it is an ensemble cast, the two main characters of the series are Bette and Jenny. The first word spoken in act one of the pilot was “Bette”.

Let's think about how Showtime promotes the show. When they send actors on talk shows to promote TLW, who do they send? Nine times out of 10 they send JB. That has to tell you that, even if she is not thought of as the star, per se, TPTB at Showtime know that she has a better chance of getting attention and getting people to tune in than, say, Kate Moennig or Leisha Hailey (nothing against them).
I think it has to do with JB's name. People still remember "Flashdance," Heck, I know I do. Yes, this is an ensemble show, but of all the names in that ensemble, who do people know? Speaking for myself, before this show aired, I'd never heard of the other actresses, whether I'd seen their work or not. JB and Pam Grier are the ones I knew and those are the two the network sends out to promote the show. Lately, Cybill has been doing promos for the same reason: name recognition.
JB is one of the few (maybe the only) cast members who has promoted the show by herself. She is certainly the one they send out most often. I think that speaks volumes about what the network knows is Miss Beals' popularity.
I've said it before, but it bears repeating: if there's no JB, there's no wordswork02 watching TLW. Yeah, there are other characters and other stories but, to me, they are like commercials during regularly-scheduled programming. I can take them, leave them, or go to the bathroom during them.
If JB gets paid more than everyone else...well, that's just capitalism, whatever the market will bear and all that stuff. Good for her. She's been languishing in the wilderness of indy film far too long.
And to respond to someone's question as to why JB isn't an "A-List" actress: thank God she isn't. Do you think an A-List actress would accept a role on an ensemble series on pay cable? I think not.
Could you see Angelina or Charlize Theron or Halle Berry doing something like that? I can't.

In my opinion Jennifer is an "A list" actress....have you looked at some of the people she's worked along side?
She's said many times that she doesn't want to be as famous as say, Julia Roberts. I don't blame her, some people just like their privicy. But I'm sure "The L Word" has opened up many more doors for her in reguards of film rolls. I just don't think she is the type of person to chose somthing just for money, it's more about substance.

Thats part of the job that JB has, due to her name she will be out promoting this show,CS sure isn't the star of the show and she does more promoting then JB. that doesn't mean she is the star of the show. During emmy considerations, JB,LuH and Mia are submitted for Best Actress catergory by shotime. Laurel makes herself available every year to hundreds of fans, promoting this show at the conventions. Shotime isn't sending her out, but she makes the time to do it, and makes herself available for the fans. Same goes for Leisha and Kate.
JB already takes up more screen time then anyone else, why ask for more, she already gets screentime and more, which is cutting the screentime of others, how fair is that, when the show is a ensemble show.
