Hi guys i heard some news from IC blog
Seems that while we are discussing together Bette and Jodi are still breaking up
Hope IC provides us sooner with some live and tell us how it's going on there.
1. IC--ice in your brandy?? Is that what you said while you were swirling your drink in your glass??? Dear me!!
2. I am still very confused by the Adele thing. Her blind ambition is her motivation? Is it realistic that she would get to be the director after Jenny's freefall? And what is her background?
3. I don't care so much about Nikki and Jenny, but it would be nice to see Jenny with someone decent and stable. I think her character is very troubled and needs some serious therapy.
4. Thanks for the Bette/Tina reunion; they're my favorite couple. I am interested to see what you will do with their relationship is Season 6.
5. Tina--I have always wondered about her family. You have showed family from all of the original cast except for her. She's not a pod person, is she?? I thought her mother would have shown up when she had her baby. Anyway--food for thought, as they say.
6. Again, thank you for The L Word. I have enjoyed all of the seasons.
does this show have to end at all? Surely the ratings are fantastic, all the actors and crew have steady jobs, is it just that the writers can't think of anything else? No disrespect intended but i'm sure we could all come up with some good ideas you could use. Pleas don't end this show x
The next time you show a "home made" sex tape, or any home movie for that matter, could you make it look...home made? I know I'm quibbling over details here, but nothing takes you out of the moment quite like a fit of the giggles while trying to imagine scenarios for how a stationary, handheld camera could yield such impressive results--I eventually settled on the conclusion that a band of film school diploma wielding wood gnomes carefully mic'd, filmed, and edited the tape while no one was looking.....
Good luck with the final season, and remember-just say no to wood gnomes.
Basically, respect for Laurel. She has been the heart and soul of this season. Do you know how good she is? Ratings have gone up this season - and guess what? Laurel has more of a "staring" role than the the two seasons. Hmmmm...
I just think Laurel Holloman is an excellent actress and a good human being. You are lucky to have her.
Actually Lu has got lots more screen time than b4 but I guess we'll never see enough of her. If I don't think too hard, I believe the "thing" Bette fails to find with Jodi but has it with Tina is simply - FORCE, a vital factor that started it all & never letting it end....
If possible, maybe involve Laurel in another project? Any tv show or movie will be most thankful to have an actress like her on board. Among the pretty faces on The L Word, I just find her UNIQUE!

you know what IC doesn't need 12 ep every season to tell her stories,8 ep are enough to avoid wasted screen time and viewers forwarding all the time.
Yeah without any doubts Jodi deserves explanations not to be humiliated by IC like that insisting to stay with someone who don't want to
And over all Jodi deserves to be told the truth not to be tortured with some vague sentences;
"it's very complicated"
"something hard to define"
and then "we have different values" was said again
Since when 2 people in a couple should be alike
I will not leave my girlfriend for my ex because we do not have the same values
IC has a way to write people saying "i love someone" that comes from another galaxy.
Why she think that love should be like that a set of reasonable points????
WHY SHE IS "REASONING" THE LOVE????
NOW A MILLION DOLLARS QUESTION
WHAT IS THE SOMETHING HARD TO DEFINE???????
cause personally until now i don't get why Tina and Bette are back together-according the script of course-and especially why Bette went back to Tina
"it feels like coming home"---"it doesn't really compare"
"we have history"---"i found it(the something hard to define) with someone else"
all this just doesn't work for me and it is not enough to broke up with my girlfriend
I don't know what IC and her lesbian team supposed to be writers were thinking when they wrote those weird phrases
All i want to say is that every week when i watch a new ep of TLW its followed by not disappointment i was disappointed along ago ==== )) astonishment yeah i am astonished of the way that IC was treating and writing this new miserable deteriorated Tibette story.
A story that started by a first sight love and some earring
and become "something hard to define" and it's called "IT'S ON"
Now I understand the ambiguity if it's on or not
and like LH for me it's not on at all.
Anyway why would i want some descent Tibette reunion it doesn't matter anymore it became so ugly so meaningless that i don't care about it anymore.
I would have preferred that IC make those two ladies move on
than to have to listen to those weird exchanges that drives me insane.
I have an advice for Tibetters : if you are still believing in it when you see a Tibette scene on your screen just disable the sound and you will be satisfied.
Cause for me IC never wrote the thing that becomes the "Tibette story"
LH and JB wrote it with their eyes
I am very, very grateful for season 6 and I'm starting to coming to the realization that sseaon 6 is the last and final season, but there are too many untold stories that need to be told.
Why does every couple have to end up being breaking up over infidelity? Why can't you have at least one couple be monogamous and committed to working things out?
Ilene's focus was elsewhere on other characters family and s/l not Tinas. It is still beyond me to think we are going into a 6th season and every character even some that were not main characters we have meet family.Just beyond me.
Here we are writing treatises and creating elaborate histories about something that has barely even merited one line of dialogue on the show itself. (One line - from BETTE, not even Tina herself, how ironically fitting - does not a backstory make.)
I only know about Tina's mom because I made the effort to search out press Laurel has done. If Ilene has since changed her mind about Tina's history, then by all means SHOW ME. On my TV screen. The way she has for the all other main (and some not-so-main) characters.
feel that you have to have everybody happily married off by the end of the run. It made me crazy when Sex and The City rushed the storylines just so that everybody was neatly tucked into their matrimonial/ happy relationship box. Do you really think that 8 is enough?
I know only 8 episodes are scheduled. As you can tell, there is already a huge amount of angst among the fans who will dearly miss this show. Is there a possiblity of have a 2 hour finale? I'd like to get a feeling of what directions the core characters will take in their lives.
I would hope there would be a Tibette wedding or at least a commitment ceremony for them. After all they have been through and have truly recognized they are really the love of each others lives, it would be most welcome to have something symbolic that would let us know they are truly committed to each other for life.
Ilene, why haven't you fleshed out Tina's backstory, beyond a throwaway line here and there? We've met everyone else's. This is a core character we're talking about here.
Surely a woman who lost a baby, went through a divorce, then gave birth to a daughter- at least spoke to a parent or sibling. Why the oversight? If we can devote massive amounts of screentime to Jenny and Adele shopping, surely we can work in a storyline involving Tina's family.
I'd kinda like for the writers to touch on her family too. Family is a part of what makes us who we are and maybe that would give us more insight as to what made Tina so passive in her relationship with Bette. I've read many questions about it here on the site so maybe it would also provide some closure for everyone on that aspect of her life.
Tina's family does not accept her relationship with Bette and her sexuality, just like most of Alice's family. The only one we saw of Alice's family was her mom (she was the only one who accepted her). And since the first season (unless I'm wrong), we have not seen or heard anything from Elenore since.
Why have we not heard of Elenore for the last 4 seasons?
Then why not simply make it known to the audience, as part of the canon of the show in relation to Tina's story ? A throwaway line would have been sufficient if her family severed all ties with her...or if theyre all dead or extinct. As it is its only speculation based on the most likely scenarios, when a simple line of dialogue could have sealed the case and made it canon.
Instead, the random couple of lines of any info about Tina's past and family elicited more questions than answers.
S2 Tina said that it was time she started thinking more of herself....that "she took care of people all her life" ?! Took care of who ? and why?
S3, the writing told us that she grew up in the suburbs, and of the Lonestar status of her mother. Its the only reference to a family member of this character, and it ties in with Tina's view of First, Last, Forever of her relationship with Bette, that was to be shattered. So one may speculate that Tina's mother and her parents' relationship influenced her views of the ideal she believed she had with Bette....making the consequences of the shattered ideal all the more disturbing for the amount of trust and belief (emotionally, as well as practically)she put into it and the loss and deprivation she found herself in, again emotionally financially and psychologically (no place of her own/drifting from one place to another/Alice's/Joyce's) that transcends sexual cheating.
In Alice's case we also were made privy to her having siblings and their conforming lives, making Alice's relationship with her nonconformist mother as them sharing a similar disposition, different from the other members of their family.
The character/dispositions of a parent and interactions with the girls has been shown to be influential in reading and shedding light on these characters' choices and personalities.
Why is Tina skeptical of other women's interest in her ? Of not "seeing" her ? This skeptism on her part was constantly written in with Helena/Kate/her potential dates this season despite the proof to the contrary, that was shown right from the pilot with the scene of a random woman hitting one her(the gym lady)...."seeing", appreciating, and in front of/reflected in a mirror, no less. "Seeing and Re-seeing" that was brought right back from s1 into this season with the shot of Bette seeing Tina in the pool, cementing the idea that the art work of S1 was representitive of Tina (the woman being photographed) and Bette.
Maybe Tina's mother was disenterested in her..or lacked to make her daughter feel valued and worthy of her esteem, hence her being apt to overlook her attractiveness as invisible to other women ?!
Leaving Tina's character without this key part in her s/l is incongruous with the other characters' writing, but maybe not so inconsistent in the terms of how Tina's character was introduced in s1 and how she evolved.
The lack of any background/family could simply be representative of Tina's losing her identity... her world, ties and connections are linked to Bette's...her present and future (S1/2) Tina's past...original family, becomes nonexistent or veiled.
Her journey of recapturing her identity/coming into her own reached its objective this season (retold also through the retelling of the story in LezGirls, and how the re-enacted scenes featured Tina's and Jenny's key scenes both in terms of how they came to know each other as well as the key moments of them as individuals and the relationships with Bette and Marina respectively) as she was never written as fleshed out as this year be it by showing her in her professional element, as in her fun/one of the girls moments, mother, lover...that was represented symbolically by making us privy to her "house", as the extension/her space/things of a fully developed personality or character. Maybe we'll have something in s6, hopefully with a house comes history, and something about the past of an individual. What is her story.
As it is its all speculations and crumbs for canon. And the question of why it should remain so for only this character.
Sad truth is we've been given no information. Rovermom may interpret the lack of family in Tina's life one way and someone else will interpret it in another.
I for one am tired of having to interpret the truth of Tina's family.....when a simple line of dialogue could clear up the mystery. She is an original, core cast member and I'd like the writer's to give her some respect and a little information about her family. That's all I'm asking for.
I'm sorry, way too much...way too much. I have no clue. I just see this as, she is not close to her family.
What is not to know? She is a caretaker and provider who does not speak up, she normally let's it ride - she allows herself to be suppressed by her loved ones. I truly think the single hood gave Tina fucking balls...she is finally a person not suppressed.
And when I think of her, the last 5 seasons have told us, that her "family" is pretty much in the past, for very deep reasons, so deep it's not spoken. Why? Because her family kept her down - she wasn't allowed to be Tina, but yet, Tina had allowed Bette to suppress her too - because Tina had to always put her loved ones first above all, and Tina only knows how to do that, by putting everything else aside.
I think Tina ran away from her family and does not want anything to do with them - and Bette really needs to be aware, Tina finally found herself - and if she doesn't watch it, Tina will run away from her too - forever! The only thing that has stopped it so far, is Angelica.
The character development is there - take another look.
Tina's family kept her down? How do we know that? According to Laurel, Tina's mom was accepting and laid back. Does that sound like a mother who "keeps her daughter down"?
We're reading all sorts of things into the text that one would need an extra-special microscope to see. Until we see it onscreen, or at least some reference to it. We're only guessing as to why we haven't seen Tina's family.
My own guess is that Ilene's focus was elsewhere. It wasn't about anything as deep as "Tina's family kept her super supressed." You're only guessing that this happened, and until we see it onscreen, so are we.
Well in all honesty, ummm, the mystery is there for a reason. She is not close to her family, or we would have had heard of them and possibly have seen some of them.
She has stated that she was always BUSY taking care of someone else. I'm sorry - to me that stipulates she has been suppressed.
Im not questioning character developement, i think Tina's character is the one who evolved and grew the most.
I just find it odd this lack of info about her family and background compared to the others.

See i like this, and i agree with it in terms of character growth, apart from Angelica as the sole reason so far that has kept Tina from running away from Bette. If Tina will ever come to the decision that she has to run away from Bette, for-ever, it would be similar to someone coming to make a fully conscious decision to amputate one of her limbs by her own hands to save her life, in terms of pain involved. But i can see her finding the strenght to do it, and living with it and coming out the better from it. And i'd rather see her go through that then watching her suffocate by her own free will through some notion of love.
I know most don't think so, but I do like Tina and Bette, I just - don't see them being good for one another. Not for the last 4 seasons. This season, they have been working - but, I don't know. It's interesting. They have to have a different relationship - a new relationship to even work, because the old one didn't work. If they sink into the old pattern again, then nothing's changed.
But I can see her finding the strength to do it, and living with it and coming out the better from it. And I'd rather see her go through that then watching her suffocate by her own free will through some notion of love.
and Tina went through some pretty massive life changes. Divorce, giving birth. That S1 meeting with Eleanor gave us a lot of insight into Alice's character. Just as meeting Dana's family, Jenny's family, Bette's family, Shane's family, heck even Max's family did. I think the same would be true for Tina.
I'm not asking for a Melvin level, multiple-season arc. Just to meet or learn more about at least one member of Tina's family.
And we don't know that Tina's family doesn't accept her relationship with Bette. Unless I'm mistaken, that has not been established on the show. We only know what fanfic tells us or what Laurel has said in interviews. According to Laurel, Tina's mother is laid back and accepting. That doesn't sound like a person who wouldn't accept Tina's sexuality or relationship.
than be left to guess about it on my own. After all, I haven't had to do so for any of the other main characters. The joke about Tina being raised by wolves has been around since S1. Hence my question. :-)
I find Tina's lack of family a obvious gapping hole in Tina's story. Especially, when you consider everything that has happened to her: the miscarriage, divorce, Angelica, going back to men. We know more about Tasha's mother, Max's parents, even Adele's (which could all be crap) than Tina's family, and I consider those characters strictly secondary.
Our family of origin shapes our beliefs, offer insight into our motivations and view of relationships and the world. TLW understands this because it's offered up the info for every other character on the show, including the secondary characters. I really can't understand why Tina's family has been ignored. Knowing Tina's may have helped us understand Tina better. I hope this mystery is finally revealed in S6.
I hope IC DOES NOT make a wrong move by putting on a Shenny display. We're rooting for Nikki & Jenny's relationship to strengthen after all these ordeals, and hope for IC to present this beautiful sight to us. After all that The L Word has been through, there shouldn't be anymore infidelity, confusion, give ups, etc, there should be more about how the characters find themselves, work on it and make something magical happen. This is what we audiences really wanna see.
DEFINITELY NO GO FOR SHENNY -
Everyone knows they're best friends and have never gone beyond the platonic, genuinely heartfelt friendship. I think it is really rare The L Word managed to string together a strong bond between two good friends who love and care for one another without an agenda in mind. Being able to confide and console each other during difficult times (E.g: how Shane was there for Jenny, hanging out smoking pot after she suffered Adele's betrayal.... and how she was there for Jenny when she had problems with Nikki). I think after all the bad relationships IC had put Jenny through, the one best move they made was installing Shane's character for Jenny to fall back on always. That's what true friends are for. This is something a best friend is able to give unconditionally, while a lover might not.
Like what Alice said to Dana a few seasons back, "she can't even talk to her bestfriend now." (when faced with problems with Dana, her lover and ex-bestfriend. Therefore, it won't be an ideal move if IC decides to pull a Shenny.
To be able to achieve something good (building it up over seasons) and then go on and sabotage it is a disaster!! It's just like the writers work so hard to put together such a genuine friendship display, but eventually being thrown back to square one. Sex, love, lust. I think there is really just a fine line between friendship and relationship and IC has pulled both off... for now, unless she's gonna cross that line. Because a true friendship bond between specific characters, is something The L Word has not yet managed to positively convey. IN BOLD!!
MAKE JENNIKKI SOMETHING WE'D DIE FOR!!! IC, YOURE A SMART WOMAN!
I recently sent an idea for season 6, as I am sure many others have, and hope you have a chance to read it. It's a simple outline of a scene for Bette and Tina. As a woman and lesbian who has struggled through several relationships, I am hoping to see the struggle pay off for both of these characters in the end - and to have a message that when we work for a true relationship and cherish each other and appreciate the meaning of what we create between us - the love of two women (two people) is real, substantial and important to the peace of the world.
I sent it to your our chart email...
Thanks for reading and good luck writing!!
Kelly
ps I am finally realizing my own truth, meaning and reality with my partner. It took some searching and here we are!!
ILENE.. you have millions of people around the world that would like this show to continue. so season 6 will only entail 8 episodes? TOTALLY UNFAIR. I'm sure I am not the only one who wants 12 episodes for the 6th season PLUS another season and another. why would SHOW TIME shut down such a popular series? WE WANT MORE.....SIMPLE FACT....IT'S BUZZING EVERY WHERE HOW UPSET WE ALL ARE. WE DON'T WANT LOOSE ENDS TIED UP...WE WANT MUCH MUCH MORE...
Are you at least mentally debating the issue of bringing Karina Lombard as Marina back in S6????????
Marina/Jenny was my favorite couple on the show next to Bette/Tina; I have always rooted for these two.
She too has a rather large fan base at www.karinaworld.com/. This character has generated numerous threads and comments still to this day since her departure off the show.
I believe that bringing this character back to L.A. (literally, since I've heard she's doing a movie in Peru) will be good for Jenny.
She obviously doesn't think Marina had true feelings for her bc the way everything went down. But, the fact is she did fall for Jenny and wanted her back. So, it would be interesting not to mention seriously HOT, to rekindle this relationship. I really did like this pairing, in spite of all the mutilation her character suffered at the hands of Jenny in her "Lez Girls' movie.
It's obvious that Jenny and Nikki are about to have some major issues within the next two episodesdue to Nikki's flirting w/Shane (still trying to wrap my head around that one) her best friend, OMG; keeping quiet on the kiss between her and Adele, not leaving the set with her, in addition to whatever bombshell IC decides to drop that will possibly link Nikki to Shebar/DD/Adele.
I think Jenny needs the maturity and compatibility that Marina can provide, not to mention the passion and the hot sex scenes that will automatically come with it.
I totally agree with you if Jenny never realized how much Marina loved her is because she never gave her the opportunity to explain. I am pretty sure that if Jenny would have known that Marina left her well establish relationship with Francesca just because she felt in love with her, i can bet that Jenny would start again with her only and true love Marina.
In S4 Jenny felt dismantled as always when Marina showed up for her book presentation and at the same time she probed her with facts that she still loves her, if not why would she bother to fly hours just to see Jenny for a moment?
I loved the pink ride episode!!! FINALLY some good writing, the scene with them all around the camp fire...EXCELLENT! Now if the rest can just be like that. I LOVED IT!

Will you be going to L5 in Blackpool since it may be the last convention that we have here if the series is ending next season?

I totally agree with you TBETTER. Laurel is the "show". Jennifer complements her very well. The two are awesome together.
I would also like to ask why Lauel was not at the V-day function.

Any chance of getting one of them Team Dana shirts? I really want one. Really! I do! I ain't playin now! ;)
And I still vote that all profits go to cancer research.
Actually, it really would mean a lot to me and I think it might mean something to others in our community as well. Do you think it a possibility?
Thanks as always!
IC . . .
any chance another fan contest may come along next season?
It would be incredible to actually watch the filming of an episode in person!
Fooling Around
Why does every couple have to end up being breaking up over infidelity? Why can't you have at least one couple be monogamous and committed to working things out?
I agree MIZNOONE
Ilene's focus was elsewhere on other characters family and s/l not Tinas. It is still beyond me to think we are going into a 6th season and every character even some that were not main characters we have meet family.Just beyond me.
I know, right?
Here we are writing treatises and creating elaborate histories about something that has barely even merited one line of dialogue on the show itself. (One line - from BETTE, not even Tina herself, how ironically fitting - does not a backstory make.)
I only know about Tina's mom because I made the effort to search out press Laurel has done. If Ilene has since changed her mind about Tina's history, then by all means SHOW ME. On my TV screen. The way she has for the all other main (and some not-so-main) characters.
ilene-please do not
queerdoe
feel that you have to have everybody happily married off by the end of the run. It made me crazy when Sex and The City rushed the storylines just so that everybody was neatly tucked into their matrimonial/ happy relationship box. Do you really think that 8 is enough?
For Season 6
I know only 8 episodes are scheduled. As you can tell, there is already a huge amount of angst among the fans who will dearly miss this show. Is there a possiblity of have a 2 hour finale? I'd like to get a feeling of what directions the core characters will take in their lives.
I would hope there would be a Tibette wedding or at least a commitment ceremony for them. After all they have been through and have truly recognized they are really the love of each others lives, it would be most welcome to have something symbolic that would let us know they are truly committed to each other for life.
Tina's family
Ilene, why haven't you fleshed out Tina's backstory, beyond a throwaway line here and there? We've met everyone else's. This is a core character we're talking about here.
Surely a woman who lost a baby, went through a divorce, then gave birth to a daughter- at least spoke to a parent or sibling. Why the oversight? If we can devote massive amounts of screentime to Jenny and Adele shopping, surely we can work in a storyline involving Tina's family.
I'd kinda like for the
I'd kinda like for the writers to touch on her family too. Family is a part of what makes us who we are and maybe that would give us more insight as to what made Tina so passive in her relationship with Bette. I've read many questions about it here on the site so maybe it would also provide some closure for everyone on that aspect of her life.
Tina's family does not
Tina's family does not accept her relationship with Bette and her sexuality, just like most of Alice's family. The only one we saw of Alice's family was her mom (she was the only one who accepted her). And since the first season (unless I'm wrong), we have not seen or heard anything from Elenore since.
Why have we not heard of Elenore for the last 4 seasons?

Tina's family does not accept her relationship with Bette and ..
Tina's family
Sad truth is we've been given no information. Rovermom may interpret the lack of family in Tina's life one way and someone else will interpret it in another.
I for one am tired of having to interpret the truth of Tina's family.....when a simple line of dialogue could clear up the mystery. She is an original, core cast member and I'd like the writer's to give her some respect and a little information about her family. That's all I'm asking for.
DJM
huh?

This is all supposition
Well in all honesty, ummm,
Well in all honesty, ummm, the mystery is there for a reason. She is not close to her family, or we would have had heard of them and possibly have seen some of them.
She has stated that she was always BUSY taking care of someone else. I'm sorry - to me that stipulates she has been suppressed.

Im not questioning character
Im not questioning character developement, i think Tina's character is the one who evolved and grew the most.
I just find it odd this lack of info about her family and background compared to the others.

I know most don't think so,
I know most don't think so, but I do like Tina and Bette, I just - don't see them being good for one another.
I agree...

At least we met Eleanor
and Tina went through some pretty massive life changes.
Maybe I was mistaken... I
Maybe I was mistaken... I thought Tina's family had stepped away from her - due to her relationship with Bette.
Here's just a hint - Tina is not close to her family, or we would have heard about them and seen them (by now).

I'd rather Ilene address it on the show
than be left to guess about it on my own. After all, I haven't had to do so for any of the other main characters. The joke about Tina being raised by wolves has been around since S1. Hence my question. :-)
I agree Mizoone
Spinoff?
Do you foresee a spinoff in the future?
Would love to see Tina's family . . . if she has one. She deserves more of the limelight - I hope we see that in S6.

AS REQUESTED BY MOST OF US...
Idea for season 6
Ilene,
I recently sent an idea for season 6, as I am sure many others have, and hope you have a chance to read it.
Will you have Molly(
Will you have Molly( Clementine) back?? Please Ilene, Shane and MOLLY ARE AMAZING TOGETHER!!
HAPPY BETTE!
Can we please have a happy, sexy, confident & strong Bette next season? Bring back Bette's swagger!
Smiles, love, fun and sex for Bette. All I ask for.
I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND IT
ILENE.. you have millions of people around the world that would like this show to continue. so season 6 will only entail 8 episodes? TOTALLY UNFAIR. I'm sure I am not the only one who wants 12 episodes for the 6th season PLUS another season and another. why would SHOW TIME shut down such a popular series? WE WANT MORE.....SIMPLE FACT....IT'S BUZZING EVERY WHERE HOW UPSET WE ALL ARE. WE DON'T WANT LOOSE ENDS TIED UP...WE WANT MUCH MUCH MORE...
Will you please consider???
Libra21
I totally agree with you if Jenny never realized how much Marina loved her is because she never gave her the opportunity to explain. I am pretty sure that if Jenny would have known that Marina left her well establish relationship with Francesca just because she felt in love with her, i can bet that Jenny would start again with her only and true love Marina.
In S4 Jenny felt dismantled as always when Marina showed up for her book presentation and at the same time she probed her with facts that she still loves her, if not why would she bother to fly hours just to see Jenny for a moment?
FINALLY!!!
I loved the pink ride episode!!! FINALLY some good writing, the scene with them all around the camp fire...EXCELLENT! Now if the rest can just be like that. I LOVED IT!
