The Issues: How Do You Vote?

I was thinking about where GLBT issues rank on the list in relation to other issues at hand right now, such as the war, and how that might affect one's vote. I realized that I really had no clue about my political priorities--that is, if it came down to it, would a candidate's GLBT stance take priority over that candidate's stance on war? If I liked what that politician had to say about GLBT rights, but didn't like that same politician's views on something else, like education or health care, what would I do?

I really don't know, but I'd be curious to hear your answers...

Marry me

It's unfortunate that we live in an economy that pressures us to choose between the right to openly love and marry who we choose. It's unfortunate that we must seriously consider global warming, the crashing economy, a baseless war in Iraq, a continued fight against foreign 'terrorists,' rising gas prices, rising food prices, rising tuition prices, and so many others before our own rights, our own needs. That being said, my right to marry my chosen partner and adopt any children we choose together will remain a top priority. I do not believe that I should feel pressured to worry more about these asshole oil companies than my marriage and health care rights. I would never support a candidate that did not support me.

Issues

1. Economy-without that we have nothing...lol

2. Iraq-we need to figure it out and get ready to help all these damaged soldiers.

3. Iran-sorry the thought of them having nukes scares the hell out of me.

4. Taxes-they are going up no matter who wins in November and it needs to be done correctly.

5. Gay and lesbian marriage rights-but its not affecting my vote this time around. If I don't have a job or food in the fridge....my sexuality would be pretty unimportant...but then again I could meet the woman of my dreams waiting in the government cheese line...lol.

Good question.

Thanks for your brilliant

Thanks for your brilliant replies. :0)

A wise woman once told me, "Game spots game."

the election in November

the election in November will be the first election that i can vote it. there is no prefect candidate, there will always be issues that i dont agree with the candidates stand. however, i will vote for the candidate who most closely resembles my views. obviously gay marriage is an big issue but it will not determine who i vote for (well in this election it wont matter because all the candidates are against gay marriage). but other issues like the war and what the candidate plans to do with the economy and so forth are issues that i think are of larger importance. why does it matter if i can get married if i cant afford food because the economy has crashed?? the best advice i can give you is do your research on the candidates and think about what issues are most important to you personally and vote for which ever candidate most closely resembles those views.

something else that you might not know... everyone says that every vote counts, but in reality for president it doesnt. your vote doesnt determine the president. the electoral college does. this means the the people vote for electors and the electors are the ones who vote. way back when this country was founded the founding fathers didnt believe the people where intelligent enough to vote for a leader, so they set it up so the people dont actually chose the president. that is how bush won the 2000 election even though he didnt win the popular vote. but even then that is still up for debate because the proceeding of the electoral college ended up being illegal. (so bush should have never been president in 2000) just a little food for though

No Single Issue

I don't think there's one specific issue that determines my vote.

I voted for Obama even though, as far as I know, he only supports civil unions and not full marriage rights. But, he was against the Iraq invasion from the beginning, so I guess you win some, you lose some.

For me, it's all give and take. But, I would never vote for someone who was anti-choice; that's fundamental.

My issues

are: the war in Iraq, education, oil costs, alternative energy, same sex marriage, health insurance and the environment. I don't care about empty speeches and promises. I want a president that will get things done.

There are 4 issues that I

There are 4 issues that I feel most strongly about and I usually use those as a base as to who I vote for. Those issues are: Abortion, Same Sex Marriage, Death Penalty and Gun Control. Those are the four issues I feel most passionately about so I use those as a starting block and then if the candidates are still close I use other issues that I care about, but just not quite as passionately to decide my vote.
