There will be an L Word spin-off. That’s right, you read it right. Our big boss, Ilene Chaiken, certainly has many tricks up her sleeve and this is definitely one of them. Showtime’s president Bob Greenblatt has just announced that there will be a spin-off starring one of the original cast. Who that may be has yet to be revealed. Fear not lesbians, our stories will continue to be told! It’s rumored that the finale of Season 6 will end with an open-ended component, in which the new spin-off will continue online. This leaves the door open for Showtime to order the new series for its cable programming.
That’s all I can tell you for now, because frankly we don’t know any more. Even Greenblatt doesn’t know more than that. He’s quoted as saying "We're still forming it. I'm sure I have a million e-mails already from loyal viewers about it, but we're still in the process of figuring it out."
On that bit of great news, enjoy your weekend. And congratulate yourselves for being a tenacious and loyal fan base. Our drama lives on!

Spin Off
I think it's great, for whomever will watch the new show. I agree with the post that stated it was to save the show in general and not one character. Why not just spin off Tibette? It would be crazy not to capitalize off of their fan base that the have!
If there were going to be a show with centered around Tina and Bette, with Alice and Shane, I would be more inclined to watch.
I stopped watching after the continued breaking up of Bette and Tina, it was ridiculous! That being said, I give a great deal of credit to Laurel Holloman and Jennifer Beals for making their characters come to life and seem incredibly real to us the audience.
The writing kept them apart but we as the fans saw something that should've been taken advantage of by the writers and the network. The great chemistry that they share as actresses and it was something that made that show exciting.
How in the world
How in the world are they going to untangle the main characters from each other? My guess is somebody is moving.
Congratulations
Ilene and company.
My preference is Bette and Tina, but dude said one actress. So my bet is Shane or Alice.
OC is presumably hosting the spinoff while it's on the internet, so I was surprised that the host of the party was the last to let everybody know. ;-) EW, Afterellen, LA Times, Hollywood Reporter ...
Miz...
I so wish it would be Bette & Tina ... DESPERATELY wish it to be ... but, alas, if it is only 1 of the characters, it won't be :( And we all know that Lu isn't a favorite (which is stupid IMHO!)....
I could see Shane working - BUT - she needs to experience some growth and not keep sleeping with anything that has a twat!!! hehe (I just wanted to use the word twat)
It pains me to think of an open ending to S6! And please IC - no new characters! Let it just be the core cast ... let it just be our girls!!

Hey Portard! How's your two moms, you big gaymo?!
Tib, between the two of them
I prefer Alice. Shane? Zzzzz.
Just watch, we'll all be wrong and it'll be someone like Alexandra Hedison or Kate French. :D
Oh yeah Miz...
I would prefer Alice to Shane. BUT - When Shane can 'behave' - I really like her sweet demeanor! Alice would be good, if they want to do something with "The Chart" ... think about it - all of us could be on there LOL!!!
Oi ... if it's Alexandra Hedison - they need to take Rachel Shelley too ... they worked so well together ... Kate French - BIG YAWN!

Hey Portard! How's your two moms, you big gaymo?!
one and only shane
one and only shane
ATTICA! ATTICA!
He’s quoted as saying "We're still forming it. I'm sure I have a million e-mails already from loyal viewers about it, but we're still in the process of figuring it out."
Hmmmmm? Are we being directed to send millions of emails to ensure that the show is picked up? Teehee. Maybe now is the time to start making demands to IC. 'You want your new show IC? Give us..."
-Bette tits
-Coco girl on girl
-a pool fence
-a comb and some pink lotion for Angie.
-a fancy camera with a telephoto lens for the art director (wink, wink)

Speaking of Combs
How about one for Shane? Time to loose the hair and come of age. Nothing overly fem, just send her to Birds. And Tex, if you're reading, another great reason to do it in Austin!!
:)Taem?
Ok i have my demands too...
- If you want Bette tits i want a boob Job for Helena (just a 34B that's the perfect size for my hands)
- Someone feed Shane,or get her a Dollar menu at least.
- A pool fence and a GPS microchip for Angie.
- Comb, pink lotion and Hair extensions maybe (she has to be a lipstick L)
- A white tank top for the art director (wink, wink)
------------
"I'd rather fight with you than make love with anyone else."
no. no. no.
No hair extensions. Like wire hangers, they're just so bad. I don't like the idea of a microchip either. Angie needs to be free, she doesn't need Bette and Tina chasing her down.
Noemir on the other hand needs something to keep her New York city, roaming ass in check.
Inquiring minds want to know, has anyone seen the art director drink out of that not so sassy water bottle?
Itchy, fyi, mall security is on to you!

great news indeed...
who would it be?...hmmm... based on the storylines my bet goes to either jenny (unless she finds a permanent love interset in L6), alice (and the chart ;)) or it could be shane...
i wish it'll be alice tho... then again that would mean she'd have to break up with tasha in L6 [tear]...
******
there are no guarantees... but the sweet is never sweeter without the sour...
I will only be watching that
I will only be watching that spin-off if it's centered around Helena Peabody. She's too pretty to just disappear forever.
Helena Peabody Spin-Off..
would be the only thing that makes sense from a character standpoint, since she is the one we know the least about. kind of like when Kate Walsh spun-off of Grey's Anatomy...
but this character is from the original cast, which Helena P is not. and this makes me sad.

Well, Rachel Shelley did say
Well, Rachel Shelley did say at the L4 convention that she and Leisha Hailey have talked about a spin-off centering around Helena and Alice. Just for fun of course, but maybe Ilene liked that idea? Yeah, only one original character will be the lead, but I'm trying to think positive here.
Hmmmm...
Alice from the original cast, and Helena would come along for the ride.... YES! That makes more sense, doesn't it? That Leisha spins off - imo best actor on the show, can do drama and comedy. Alice and Helena!! I can see it.

: )
Agreed.
Please TiBette or Angie
Please TiBette or Angie ;)
But I have the bad feeling it won't be with a main character (I think maby Jodi, Papi or Tasha...)

TiBette - First, last, forever
Tibette
If tina and bette are not included in the spin off I will not watch.the petitions say we want to save the L word not one person from the show.
I wish
I wish it was Tibette but since it's only 1 character it will be Shane probably or Jenny...either way, this is a great news!!!!
IT'S MAX !!!!!!!
I heard it was going to be Max. He/she and Tom are having a baby and moving to Orange County, California... to raise their child in a more conservative Republican community. Max will be a stay at home Mom/Dad and Tom becomes the Pastor at an evangelical church...... Ilene, have you gone mad ??
LOL LBDL!
I'm loving all the rampant speculation and how it's making everyone a little

that's toooooo funny!!!
Dood
What are you on? And where can I get some?!
very cool news...
power to the people, and all that.

I'm really, really, really happy!!!
Well, that's a great news for all of us!!!! Lesbian drama will continue! Thank you Ilene! and thank you Showtime!
Let the speculation begin!
I say it's Alice and here's why:
She is a strong character who can play off anyone.
She is a well rounded character.
Leisha is actually gay. I think this matters because, although I think all of these actresses have done an excellent job of perpetuating the fantasy, I can't imagine that a straight actress would want to play a gay role indefinitely. Yes, I know gay actors have played straight for years, but it's not the same thing. Even in this day and age playing gay can have a chilling effect on one's acting career. It is very easy to be pigeon-holed -- that is, type cast in Hollywood. Jennifer Tilly reports that even a decade after starring in Bound, every script with a lesbian character still comes to her. So I think being an out actress would make it easier to play a lesbian long-term, at least on that score.
So I say Alice is getting her own show.
There's a thin line...
I vote Alice too. Good
I vote Alice too. Good observation Meffle.
For me the news is bittersweet. I'm happy and thankful about the spin-off, thank you Ilene and Showtime! Yet I've grown to love all of the characters and will miss them.
Bye-bye Bette and Tina, I hope there'll be another lesbian tv couple as enchanting as you.
I hope it's Alice!
i like your theory :) I really do hope it's Alice, because I was seriously bummed about not being able to get my Alice-fix after next year!
I hope it's Alice too...
But I don't think so---Leisha is focused on her music career and touring Europe after the L has concluded filming. I just don't see how she can fit all that in her hectic schedule. She just can't drop the band cold turkey. If I had to put money on it--I'd say maybe Mia or Daniela.

A show about Max
wouldn't hold my attention for 10 seconds. Plus, I don't think that would be a lesbian show (not that Greenblatt said the spinoff would be a lesbian show). Think about it, Max is a gay pre-op ftm tranny dating a guy. Doesn't that just make him a straight woman? I mean, I've know lot of women more butch than Max who were HAPPILY hetero married.
There's a thin line...
i might watch if it were
i might watch if it were about either Jenny or Shane. I'd probably watch if it were about Helena, and I'd absolutely watch if it were about Alice. Otherwise I don't know if I'll be interested at all.
I did think about Leisha's commitment to her band, and I'm sure that's a factor in whether or not she'll do it. But she always says that she doesn't want to have to choose between acting and music, so who knows? She's been doing a pretty good job of balancing the two so far. She might be one of those people who loves the hectic life it creates (not that I would be able to do it). I guess time will tell :)
Lots of actors
do both the music and acting thing, but usually acting takes presidence, possibly because of the high visibility and cross-over appeal. On the other hand, if Leisha & co move out of the lesbian niche market with their music, it could be bigger than her acting career.
Will Smith did both successfully for years, as did Bruce Willis and a few others, but it seems eventually acting took the lead. I can't think of a single case of an actor who went to music exclusively after a successful acting career.
There's a thin line...
YAYY
ahh! this is awesome news..
i hope it's helena.. i'll watch anything with her on it, plus.. we've missed her the last season (at least i have!!)
i doubt it'll be as succesful as THE l word, but yea.. count me in..
I am sooo happy!! I need
I am sooo happy!! I need them all though, how could we ever choose!?
I want Helena!!! Anyway, no
I want Helena!!!
Anyway, no matter who it is, I'm glad about the news. The L Word is such a great and unique show and anything that means that it won't be completely finished is a silver lining for me :)
I would love...
... a spin off! I vote for Alice, but how on earth can you have one member of group without the others? I just can't see any character breaking away from the whole group... Jenny... o god Jenny would
Maybe
maybe the spin off will be called, Lez Girls or Our Chart.com
I think I just peed my pants
I think I just peed my pants

You are sooooo right I used to just hate Jenny now God how I just love to hate her,I love how Jenny just gets so stuck on herself .
Or a movie, Showtime would
Or a movie, Showtime would be stupid not to capitalize on the gold mine. I'll take everything I can grt
I shall be telling this with a sigh

And that has made all the difference
Give me Jodi!!!!
Jodi is a good choice!!!
Give me Jodi!!!!
Marlee Matlin!!!^^
yay
i dont care who it stars im just happy there is more of the l word =p
HMMMMM
OK, so it's Shane and she'll be trying to find Carmen to beg her forgiveness!!!
YAY!!!!!
One thing Ms. Chaiken has demonstrated...she (and a few thousand lesbians) are a force not to be ignored.
Good work, Ilene and thanks for the great news, Grace.
Lezbeth
hmmm..
hmmm, i dont know about this...the cast as a whole is great! How could you pick just one person to continue the show? lol..if I had to pick though, it would be alice
No Tibette = Not watching
No Tibette = Not watching any spin-off online or offline.
Tibette Nation Rules!
The heart and soul of the L Word is Tibette. Holloman and Beals are the most gifted actresses on the show and their chemistry is magical. Any spinoff with out them will likely not succeed. A follow on movie with the core ensemble would be great!
Yay!!!
And could it possibly be Alice Pieszecki???
I surely hope so : )
