There will be an L Word spin-off. That’s right, you read it right. Our big boss, Ilene Chaiken, certainly has many tricks up her sleeve and this is definitely one of them. Showtime’s president Bob Greenblatt has just announced that there will be a spin-off starring one of the original cast. Who that may be has yet to be revealed. Fear not lesbians, our stories will continue to be told! It’s rumored that the finale of Season 6 will end with an open-ended component, in which the new spin-off will continue online. This leaves the door open for Showtime to order the new series for its cable programming.
That’s all I can tell you for now, because frankly we don’t know any more. Even Greenblatt doesn’t know more than that. He’s quoted as saying "We're still forming it. I'm sure I have a million e-mails already from loyal viewers about it, but we're still in the process of figuring it out."
On that bit of great news, enjoy your weekend. And congratulate yourselves for being a tenacious and loyal fan base. Our drama lives on!

My hopes...
are that IC doesn't do a spin off on Bette and Tina because to present a show with only one of them would simply be horrible! Seriously! Look at the fan base behind these two as a couple! If you take one, take them both!!!

Shaaaaaaane!
Original Cast Member...
I don't think the spin-off would be with anyone of the newer characters, like Tasha or Max. Greenblatt did say the spin-off is going to star one of the ORIGINAL cast members, so there are only six possible candidates: Bette, Tina, Alice, Jenny, Shane, or Kit. Hmmm...
Can't wait for the new season to find out...
Please spin-off....

Quelle ex-cel-len-te nouvelle !
Merci à toutes (et tous) de continuer sur cette très belle lancée.
This show has been one of the greatest groundbreaking show in history. Thanks.

All I have to say is thank God!I sort of new it was comming though.Just like a few years down the road there will be the Lword movie.I think it is Fantastic as long as the writers stay true to the fans. I love the Lword and all it entails. I hope the spin off features Alice because she is my favorite character!
omg omg omg
i hope on hope it is better and maybe tina! i will cry!
Bette-'are you talking dirty to me?' *faints*
Ilene, Bob and Showtime
Plain and simple...
Thank you...
And if I'm not mistaken, this is another first. Won't this be the first series' spin-off to take place on a paid cable channel?

Yippee!!!!
Hope I get some script cred!
I'm just sayin'.....
Lez Girls spin-off!!! (oh Lord)
I think they could have done the spin-off with the Lez girls movie at the end of season 5, but I'm not sure about it after S6.
The main character would have been Jenny.
Other stupid idea: main character is Dana so we can explore lesbianism in heaven or parallele lives. She would be so cute with angel wings ;)

The drama queen
If you really have to do a spin-off, it's got to be with Alice. She's the drama queen, she's the secret ingredient, she's the damn glue!
Plus, she's cute and funny. She is the key to a good drama series.
Amen to the Dana Fairbanks
Amen to the Dana Fairbanks flashback series!
A wise woman once told me, "Game spots game."
Even bette(r) idea
Remember when one of the cast members, I think it was that zany Alice P.or maybe the spanish accent challenged Papi, anyway, one of them speculated that Jodi's deafness made her other senses more peppy. Create a scratch and sniff show staring Jodi, the extra sensory smell girl. Call it the 'Smell Word'. Showtime can send out scratch and sniff cards with every bill. The first episode could feature all of the women, so we can smell what they smell like.
Max- Tuna fish
Kit-gin and juice
Shane-reefer
Bette-AliceTinaJodiCandaceNadiabar/hotelchick...
Tina-peanut butter and jelly with a hint of BetteAliceJodiCandaceNadiabar/hotelroomchick
Helena-money/Chino prison
Alice-eau de famo o drama
Tasha(the cop)-pork
Jenny-sounder
Joyce-vajayjays
Phyliss-scotch
Angie-napalm, which smells like VICTORY
Hmm Ok i don't agree with you
I think that Helena's smell is Power/Lesbian Concentre. (Do not confuse with my favorite Eau de Cartier)
And Alice... drama hehe
And you are missing Adelle, cause i really like her she is the reason of all the fun on season 5! i think she is "Eau de Evilicious"
------------
"I'd rather fight with you than make love with anyone else."
Yes I did
forget Adele, perhaps because she is forgettable. Some of the minor character smells are:
Candace-Newport cigarettes
Nadia-pencils
bar/hotel chick-aftersex
Tom-Max
James-Bette's ass
I'm putting my bets on
I'm putting my bets on Shane...or Tasha...more so on Tasha.
Tasha has a whole other life that we had a small peek of this past season - and a completely different view of lesbian life.
And if Tasha and Shane decide to just vacate that group of lesbians - and end up stagging together...it would be interesting.

Really?
I just can't see that. I keep envisioning it as very good, very old fashioned, very tight assed Tasha constantly wanting to choke, ground, just plain smack the shit out of bad girl Shane. Like a mother getting very frustrated with a wayward teenager.
Both very well played and very hot; but together? Where would the story line go?
Taem?
The Odd Couple
I think a Tasha and Shane pairing would work. I know only one could be the "star", but it would make interesting television.
One wants to be with one woman, the other All women. One is a career public servant, the other takes a more creative career paths.
Plus, Rose and Kate get along very well. There is a connection.
http://RoseRollinsFanBlog.blogspot.com
We are thinking a like. When
We are thinking a like. When I was envisioning them stagging together - I was envisioning a very "odd couple" setting.
It could be feasible. Have Shane walk in a few episodes into the new series - at the door. Fed up with everything and just ready to start a new.
Her character is very true to her friends, but if this event is that big...it just might have her running away from everything.
Rose and Kate have really hit it off as friends. I think they'd have fun with that. And even though I heard Kate talking quite a few years ago about how characters aren't meat to be played for years on end - if done right, it's possible to get some extra seasons out of them - with out becoming blasé.
But I'm not sure if Kate would want to get locked in to Shane for that long of a period.

I like how you think!!! It would be exciting!!
Yes! I would love for it to be Rose, but I'm not sure it's something they can do.
I agree. Tasha's story would be a great story (a great story is the most important thing). It would show a TOTALLY different view, it has the "hook" showtime likes, and it's something that I believe has never been done.
Think about it. A show where the lead character is a black lesbian!! Talk about making history!! It's right up there with a series about a serial killer, a call girl, and dope dealer. :)
She's a police officer, too! Some sex, some violence, guns...

What more can I say?
;)Taem?
I prefer panty hose. They're
I prefer panty hose. They're giving and yet restrictive. And when the right knot is applied they can squeeze the wrists giving an extra euphoria to the mix.
I remember there was a time when asphyxiation while getting off was popular (never tried it, I don't recommend it). Using a slip knot on the wrists is different - but some of the same principles is applied, but in a more safer way. Since circulation is being cut, the heart rate goes up - pumping more blood into the groin area - as well as the head.
An euphoria can happen when either little oxygen or too much oxygen is sent to the brain. You're good to go when the chest is numb and you can't stop shaking...take that shit off and get to fuckin'. :)

What's your tutoring fee?
Kidding. Neither bondage nor asphyxiation are things I would find erotic. Way too much baggage for that. I do kind of see how Jenny got obsessed with it though, trying to find a way to control all that shit. Probably why I could never stand that plot line; better on DVD so you can fast forward through it. But hey, whatever gets you there.
I do see Tasha more likely to whip out the cuffs from her belt. Gentle hose would be more Alice. No, wait, she would be the pink fur variety. Helena. Helena would find hose sexy, and like the fact that they don't leave any common person marks.
;)Taem?
Make the new show
revolve around that extra from season three. The one who was a victim of bad editing when Alice is outside of the hospital. You know the one, first she's 5 feet away from Alice, then 50 ft, then walking past her. Yeah, make it about her. Call it 'Walking Small'
Tell the truth,
how many of you replayed that scene to check it out?
:)
Taem?
HAHAHA
Teeheehee.
has everyone forgotten ROSE??
I forgot about ROSE!! LEISHA, ROSE & KATE!!
This would be the best "grouping": all strong individual personalities, all 3 strong actresses, all good friends.
KEEP ROSE!!! How will we go on without her presence and – WITHOUT THAT LAUGH???
I thought about Rose,
But Greenblatt seem to indicate one actor and I don't think Tasha by herself could carry a show.
There's a thin line...
you're right, in my eagerness to bet...
I missed the "one person" line. Ok, it's gotta be Leisha.
Kate Moennig could do it but she got so pegged into one "type". I think Leisha offers a lot more unpredictable story lines and she's a great actress who is so flexible and can "be so many things"...
I don't think it's Leisha's
I don't think it's Leisha's character. Her musical career just did a major spike, with Uh Huh Her. In less they don't plan on doing a spin-off right away - I don't see it happening. I think Leisha might want a more flexible acting schedule for like maybe a year or so - just so she can take a step back and dive in. And just balance out for a bit. I know they want to do a world tour.
I could be wrong. I just think Shane is changing and ...well they are all looking into different paths. I just think Tasha's is the most untold story. If Alice and her break up - we'd finally get a chance to see her world...because we were always seeing Tasha in Alice's world.
The hints of a whole other LA lesbian life style was being set up. Plenty of room for more stories, and a fresh new perspective.

It's too bad.
The best thing Leisha could do for her music career is star in a TV series.
It would introduce her to a more mainstream audience. The series could stay online until she returns from her tour in Europe.
Yes, I'm pushing for Rose, but I wouldn't mind a "Talice" series.
http://RoseRollinsFanBlog.blogspot.com
a-a-a-a-art imitates l-l-l-l-life ?
Remember all the "art imitates life" stuff in the last season? (which felt to me more like "we ran out of story ideas..." but that's going off topic...)
Maybe Ilene will go that route again and combine Leisha's music with the new series. Leisha could play a gay gurrl in a gay gurrls group or gay gurrl musician or something like that. Then she could even tour or be in different locations, be shot onstage, practicing, meeting groupies, meeting other musicians, etc. She could promote herself & music even more thru the show and everyone would benefit: show, Leisha, viewers, music lovers, everyone.
I sure wish Joan Jett could've had HER own show back in the days of BAD REPUTATION!!
Joan Jett - Bad Reputation
I really wanted Alice and
I really wanted Alice and Tasha to overcome what is apparently lacking lately - but I have a feeling their not.
Leisha has done that - and not saying she's going to drop acting but - I just think that she'll want to a more flexible acting schedule... to just concentrate and invest on growing musically again.
I think right now she's sitting at a place where she can afford to choose more wisely on scripts. And not being tied to an acting schedule, she can go out and read more diverse characters. Do a mini-series or a another movie ...or just a few episodes for a story arc.
rovermom :)

I AGREE
Rovermom: I agree with 102% about Leisha. Her music career is really soaring along with her gigs with the Olivia Cruise contract she earned. It would be hard to juggle both at the same time. IMO-I think Greenblatt & IC are trying to initiate this project shortly after they conclude filming of S6. Leisha will be touring Europe by then...It would be nearly impossible to since both careers are equally as demanding. As for Rose being on the show...I don't think IC and Greenblatte are thinking along those lines yet.
Rose Rollins could carry a show!!
She has the acting chops, a big presence on screen, beautiful, and don't forget fresh and new.
This is Showtime. It can't be like anything else on TV and Rose is nothing like anyone else on tv. This is a network with shows about a serial killer, a dope dealer, a call girl, and a sex addict. How about a black, lesbian cop?
http://RoseRollinsFanBlog.blogspot.com
Rose could carry a show
I don't think Tasha can though. I just don't find her character interesting enough at the moment to want to tune in.
That being said, things can change.
But that's the hook. the
But that's the hook.
the spin-off isn't going to seem like Lword-2 - with all the components and traces of the original. I think we're invested enough into the character of Tasha, but yet know nothing.
In less....T and Bette break up and we get a single Lesbian mother spin-off based on T's perspective...but I think it's in the same element and we've been shown that.
We have not really been shown stories through a the eyes of a minority lesbian lifestyle. We've been given treats to it...like Papi and her friends, which included introducing us into Tasha's world...but it really wasn't. It was the same group of people that we were given glimpse of.
I think Tasha made enough of an impact on the watchers to invest in her - and yet we haven't really been shown, just a small taste of the other side of lesbian life in LA. Cause most people have been talking and complaining that their life isn't anything like this group of lesbians...even women living in LA.
I've said that these women lived sorta of posh like....Tasha don't live posh like. Shane for the most part isn't posh like - she was just introduced because she did posh hair.
I think the untold stories are of the everyday blue collar lesbian, living in urban places - not in suburbia.
Tasha's character has went through changes to going back to being civilian. That character is still being molded and unfolding to be.
There are good spin-offs and then there are bad ones..the bad ones are when you take and use the exact same major imprint. Pretty much all of the original cast members are part of that ensemble of a life style and we were given that perspective entwined week after week.
Except for Tasha - she has this whole other life outside of Alice - she has a huge group of friends - and she's been bumping into them and wanting to hang out with them, but it's alone...and not with Alice.
As much as I'd love to see Alice and Tasha be together - they just might end up a part and Tasha walking away....or Alice walking away...leaving us in Tasha's world.
I could be wrong, but I think the finale of this season is going to have us departing their world in steps of each character...just like we were introduced in steps.
The only other character I could think of doing the spin-off is Helena...but Helena is pretty much the same perspective. In fact she has a very posh view of the world.
rovermom :)

I understand and agree
with what you are saying - but I still don't see Tasha as being able to carry a show. That's not to say I can't be proven wrong, I just don't think it is there in her character. It'd either have to be an ensemble cast, or nothing.
Oh it'll be an ensemble,
Oh it'll be an ensemble, maybe not as big - but Tasha got friends...her own word. I mean haven't you noticed that Tasha and Alice don't hang out with Tasha's group of friends? And Tasha talked about clubs and lesbian LA hot spots that Alice never even heard of.
It's a complete fresh take.
What really happens when 2 people break up - who weren't a part of the same crowd? Maybe the baton will be passed on through Tasha's eyes. I mean this is a tight nit group...think about it.
Her character is the most logical one, that I can think of, that could give us a fresh look and yet still have some element.
rovermom :)

An ensemble
I could get behind, but I wouldn't trust it not to be cliched. I think that is also why I am a little concerned about it.
I dunno, I am fond of Helena getting her own show - I really think the new Helena would have an interesting story to follow.
Bring Dana back.
I'd love to see Jenny (and fear it equally).
At the moment I am not feeling Tasha - but I bet if I rewatch 4th and 5th season my opinion would change :).
I'd route for Helena to have
I'd route for Helena to have a spin-off too. I have a special love for each of the characters.
I just arrived in Cali a few hours ago and I am beat, but need to stay awake and I'm just waiting for family. Let me dream on this tonight and see about where Helena could go :D

You should be a screenwriter.
Rovermom, you should be a screenwriter. I think you nailed it.
http://RoseRollinsFanBlog.blogspot.com
You make a really good point.
You're right. Right now Tasha can seem like a waste of Rose's talent. Does IC and crew have the writing chops for a character like Tasha? It would take some creativity and research, but I think they could do it.
Spin off or not I'm hoping Rose gets more opportunities to show her stuff in season six.
http://RoseRollinsFanBlog.blogspot.com
hang on...
We can envisage in our heads our ideal show centred around our favourite character ---BUT as it is an online project I wonder if any of the original cast would want to go down that path of possibly disappearing into the ether world.
They will have to consider - If the show was unsuccessful what would that do to their career? At the moment they are all on a successful show but the unknown territory of an online only show may be considered a backward step by the cast that want to move onto other projects and expand their repertoire.
Whilst I personally would love a show centred around Shane, I would not want KM's career to slide into obscurity if the show did not 'take off' or for her to be stuck in a typecast loop.
just a thought...:)
___________________________________________________
'Poetry is about the grief. Politics is about the grievance.'
Online shows are
not going to destroy a career, and likely would just take an extra few weeks - a month a to film...
It wont be detrimental and I doubt that any of the cast would see it that way. Webseries and 'webisodes' are becoming a huge deal. They also allow for, in some case, great fan interaction. It doesn't have to be a bad thing, but you are right, the actress would really have a lot to consider in taking it up. But, none of these gals seem scared of their roles, and they seem to enjoy what they do.
Well Echo
To that extent, I suppose any new project is a risk. I mean, I still don't get the whole Sex and the city phenomenon. Who knew?! I think Jennifer has that sort of trail blazing spirit, but on balance, Leisha may have the least to lose and the most to fall back on (her music).
There's a thin line...
Excellent points. Taem?

TiBette Spin Off
it will be. The only feasible spin off that IC and Showtime can hold onto. For Showtime it´s all about $$$ and they know that TiBette has the biggest following. I know they only announced "one current character", Of course, they need a marketing strategy. If they say TiBette now, that would all lead to what´s in store for season 6. IMO, Greenblatt is actually referring To Laurel.
TiBette is always reffered as one. I don´t want to be biased but who could pull off a successful spin-off? Without doubt, it´s TiBette..
Or! or! OR!
Better yet, have Mama Chaicken write another lesbian show with completely different characters. It wouldn't be the same without all the others in it. If there will be a spin-off though, NO Shane, please. I used to like her but she's getting old. Her s/l is and all her b/s. It's not fun - it's boring.
If the spin-off will have one main character, surely it won't be Bette or Tina, coz that would be well.... wrong, if they're not together. It would suck having the show end and no Bette and Tee anymore but at least we'll have em happy and in love together by the end of the series.
Jenny, in all her crazy glory, I would say. Yep, Jenny FTW!
maybe even Alice? Helena? or... or...
Dana Fairbanks!=)
