There will be an L Word spin-off. That’s right, you read it right. Our big boss, Ilene Chaiken, certainly has many tricks up her sleeve and this is definitely one of them. Showtime’s president Bob Greenblatt has just announced that there will be a spin-off starring one of the original cast. Who that may be has yet to be revealed. Fear not lesbians, our stories will continue to be told! It’s rumored that the finale of Season 6 will end with an open-ended component, in which the new spin-off will continue online. This leaves the door open for Showtime to order the new series for its cable programming.
That’s all I can tell you for now, because frankly we don’t know any more. Even Greenblatt doesn’t know more than that. He’s quoted as saying "We're still forming it. I'm sure I have a million e-mails already from loyal viewers about it, but we're still in the process of figuring it out."
On that bit of great news, enjoy your weekend. And congratulate yourselves for being a tenacious and loyal fan base. Our drama lives on!

There have been a few, mine among them. It's just that this thread has stirred so much interest that they are no longer all on the same page. Admittedly, Max has gotten less attention than the other characters. Unfortunately, the trans community is still considered outside by many, even (especially?) here. Still, a few of us have speculated on Max scenarios, so read the backlog; you might find it entertaining.

I'm not really sure
what that proves, other then that people are interested in what Kate is doing, and whether or not she is likely a part of the spin-off. It's kind of an artifical measurement.

even all the sites on the entire web put together will not represent what 'everyone' thinks and not everyone has access/ability/priviledge of having internet access anyway. it was merely an observation - just a bit sick of the assumption we 'all' want 'tibette'. I'll shut up now ;)

I agree, I would rather visit tibet than watch a spin of the L Word characters. However this is in know way meant to offend the actresses who play Bette and Tina or how they portray the characters.

I agree the assumption
that everyone wants Tibette is wrong, but the connection between Kate's IMDB and people wanting Kate to be in the spin-off is reaching, that's all :).

If you'd read my earlier post i actually said that much as i would like a show centred around 'Shane' i did not necessarily think it would be good for KM as an actor, ergo, i would not be holding my breath hoping it was her. The IMDb reference is just to bring to OC another perspective that other people might not have heard about. Not everyone that comes here is an internet afficianado. I wasn't trying to make a reaching point, just a point :)

Alice: She's hilarious but still good with the drama. The Chart is Alice's and there's plenty that can happen there along with her dating misadventures. Leisha topped the AfterEllen hottest chart and has a huge following, along with her music fans. Alice is bi (did we forget that?), so there might be more mass appeal for the show rather than it being a purely lesbian show, making it more profitable for Showtime. Alice gets my vote!
Shane: Where the heck else is Kate going to go? She can keep playing small guest roles on series after series, but she's obviously typecaste and will forever be known as Shane. A series based on Shane's dating life would be interesting, and you can bet your ass there'll be plenty of sex.
Jenny: Ilene channels herself through Jenny--it's how TLW started. That's a strong enough basis. I hope it's not her, though, cuz I think an entire show based around Jenny would be annoying, although I'd watch it anyway. Besides, Mia Kirshner would probably want to move on to bigger things and has no trouble playing a straight girl.
What I'd like to see is a pre-L-Word spinoff based on Alice, Shane, and Dana--before they meet Bette, Kit, and Tina. The show would be hilarious. The 3 actresses would probably do it for less than they're worth too just so they can work together again.

I'd love to see Shane grow up, but "Where the heck else is Kate going to go?" Please! Breaking type casting can be bitch, but it's not as if the lady isn't capable.

Oh, she's capable.
She definitely has the acting chops, but she has a very, very specific type, and esp. after this show it's going to be difficult for producers to put her in any role that's not similar to Shane.
Comparing Kate to the other two I mentioned, Leisha has her music career taking off with Uh Huh Her, and Mia hasn't really been typecast as a result of this show and can easily play straight or gay. Prior to TLW, Kate has typically played the androgynous type, and, even though there should be, there aren't many roles, much less regular, leading roles for actresses like her.
If Shane is indeed the character IC wants to base her spin-off around, this is hands-down the best move for Kate. She might as well milk the role of Shane for all it's worth.

Black Dahlia
Have you seen Black Dahlia? The character Mia plays strikes me as very Jenny.There is even a scene where she does a strip number in a bar in a little Catholic school girl outfit, that is very like the Yeshiva girl number. And the porn rape scene in Dahlia is a lot like the short S&M scene where she Jenny meets the gal who introduces her to the guy who runs the strip bar. Type?
And yes, in both cases Mia plays it disturbingly well.

Most actors have a type...
and SHOULD have a type. However, some types are just cast more often and are more flexible than others. Yes, Mia has a type as well. She plays dark very well, but at the same time she has this sense of vulnerability about her, which makes her even more dangerous. I've seen some scenes from her 7-episode stint on 24, and she's a bad-ass in that-very subdued yet very dangerous.

In the article Robert Greenblatt, Showtime's VP of entertainment, talked about two new Showtime series (one featuring a gay, Muslim character), and shared his view of the future of Gay Characters on Showtime.
Direct quotes from the article...
Greenblatt said that is the network’s goal and where he believes the future of gay characters will be found — at least on his network. “I think what we’re going to see more of, as opposed to QAF with ten gay characters or The L Word with ten lesbian characters, I think were going to hopefully start seeing more and more shows where it is just part of the world, just another person in the universe of the show and in the case of most of our shows a lot isn’t made of it. It’s just a fact of life.”
Asked why Showtime has such a good track record with GLBT visibility with shows such as The Tudors, Weeds, QAF, and the ongoing series The L Word (Greenblatt also announced on Friday that a possible The L Word spin-off is in the works ), the entertainment president said, “We always are encouraging [diversity] and we try to make it organic and not force it. My guess is it becomes about Alice and Shane. Shane takes over the Planet and helps Helena with She-Bar. Alice goes back to radio with her own morning drive show - starts her band up again.
Tina and Bette have moved to France where Bette is guest lecturing at French U. They sent for Kit where she has revived her singing career at French nightclubs ala Ella Fitzgerald. Tina manages Kit while enjoying being a mother and bossing Bette around.
Jenny enters a Monestary.
Helena goes back to New York.

If it's TiBette - it's not a spin-off because apparently according to you and 'all tibetters', that this show was ALWAYS about this couple.
Sorry. If it is about T or B. I might not be able to tune in - and it's not about Jen or Laurel's ability to act. They can act, and we know this. It just wouldn't be a spin-off...and no new perspective and a pull away to call it's own.
We need a character that is new - and yet we have an investment in them - and one that isn't going to be a part of this tight knit group for very long. Someone who floats with them and yet kinda separate.
due to the enormous B&T fans - I don't think T&B could pull the spin-off away from the show, to call it's own.
The best spin-offs are the ones that stand alone - away from the show that it spun off from. I doubt that the audience will let this new show be it's own, if B&T were for it to be based on.
No new perspective and the stories would be kind of stale

What part of NO Tibette is so hard to understand?
Ilene said ONE character would be the spin-off. Not 2. Unless the "Tibetters" want a sad ending...which of course, I do not. Don't get me wrong, I'd love for Tibette to be the spin-off, but that's not what Ilene has eluded to.
Question though...do you really think it's more about popularity or character storyline??

Everyone knows the only ones to even have a chance at pulling off a spin off would be TIBETTE... sure as i have said i love all the others too... but they are just the fillers... bette and tina are the reason 90% of the viewers tune in each and every week... the rating went down in season 3 because bette and tina were not together... see how they rating shot throught he roof in season 5...
Showtime knows where thier bread is buttered... and if they want to keep the money coming in they know who the spin off should be about...
for the life of me i can't see them even considering seperating the ladies of the l word... it works the way it is... and there is an old saying... "IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT"
Showtime please consider keeping the show as it... we would be very happy with 8 eppy's each season... with all of the ladies...

It really is a no-brainer.
They already have a substantial captive market for Tibette, so they must be nuts if they don't capitalise on this. I accept that they need to make money on their project, so I am more than happy to pay to watch Tibette spin-off.
If the spin-off does not have Tibette, even if they pay me to watch, I wouldn't. This is feedback to Greenblatt and Chaiken. Hope you guys are listening.

I am a rabid Tibetter....but come on...id it is really around one character...it MUST be Alice...she is in the media..always has been- writer for a mag, on the radio and now TV and she of course is behind OurChart...of COURSE she could carry the story over to the internet...it could be great fun....plus she could move away from the group who seems pretty settled....
No one would LOVE it to be Tibette More than me- but I think a Spin off has ALICE written ALL over it...lets hope the other gals drop in OFTEN.....

minniesota54, i know we haven't written in a long time but we were there in the beginning. I don't blame you for not wanting to read through 6 pages of ridiculous ideas. The statement said it would be a webisode of ONE of the original cast members. If it is successful they may make a series of it or a movie of tlw. I, too would love it to be Helena, but she didn't appear untill Season 2 so i don't know if she qualifies. They said the actress who will play the part doesn't even know about it yet. If you go to "The L Word Online" you can read Robert Greenblatt's statement to the TV critics. Of the 6 pages and counting, at least 5 pages want it to be tibette which is not one person. I hope this answers your question as i know inquirlng minds want to know!!! Saw you on 'be scene' at the Dinah and you were great. nice to know you're a real person.
