Kate, Leisha, Jennifer, Laurel…?

I had a weird dream last night that the new spin-off was going to star Jennifer Beals, but in my dream I rationalized: “No, that doesn’t make sense. The L Word is all about Bette as it is. It has to be another character…” My dream didn’t tell me who it was going to be, and no one in Vancouver is talking, so your guess is as good as mine.

However, I think some of you maybe pre-cognizant. Sunday442’s spin-off stars Tasha as an SVU officer for the LAPD. Surely this would boot Mariska Hargitay off the top of the TV cop babe list. Ms Payne described a spin-off with Henry... as a beautician. Okay, I added that last part. Hey Bob, here is a sure Emmy winner: “Lesbianism in Heaven” from Secretgirl with Dana Fairbanks as a friendly ghost. Speedy12's idea with Mr. Piddles is brilliant. How about “Mr. Piddles Goes to Washington,” as an animated series? Now Cyberwoolf is really onto something when she guessed the spin-off with James, which I would like to title "Tales from the Crypt." Poor James, life as an assistant isn't easy... unless, of course, that assistant is Adelle.

Okay, I have one: Shane goes to Japan and is mobbed by adoring lesbians… Oh wait, that actually happened.

Our friend Yuki Kaiser at the Japanese lesbian website Tokyowrestling.com e-mailed to let us know Katherine Moennig visited Japan on a press tour for The L Word DVD release. Eighteen fans and members of the toykyowrestling website were invited to participate in a meet and greet with Kate, which Yuki was excited to share with us.

I would be interested in a spin off with Jennifer and Laurel. I do not want to see Elizabeth Berkley in it, esspecially as Bette's love interest, I would just die!! I am just not crazy about Elizabeth, after showgirls. Plus we already been down that road with Jennifer having her friend on the show (Marlee). I think it takes away from the storyline and chemistry. I think Laurel and Jennifer worked because it was new canvas, it was the mystery of two people who knew nothing about each other.....I don't want to know two actresses are friends and after shooting a scene are off goofing around, it kills the chemistry. I think the building of two characters comes from getting to know each other and peeling back the skin of one another....and when you get to the core, it either works or does not. With LH and JB, it totally worked. It was magic. Whatever Ilene does I hope she keeps Tina and Bette together. You don't have to break them up or have them cheat to be interesting. There are alot of things Ilene can do to keep Bette and Tina storyline interesting. Ideas can be in another post, but my point is I hope there is a spin-off and I hope it's with Bette and Tina.....Alice would be good to.

Spin Off Comment

I think more would watch the spin off its about B&T moving along in their relationship. As for EB, I would think one could have a str8 friend w/o having sexual feelings for that person. Relationships are interesting and exciting to watch it develope, I would think there is hope out there for same sex couples that do stay together, surely you can show that with a well written show and prove it.

I sometimes get the feeling that the Lesbian community love cheating on one another which makes it confusing for me. I was a homophobe, but have broaden my horizons in tolerance with the show (TLW) Relationships are not easy to begin with, but watching a strong couple that have the chemistry like T&B would def. be a positive for the gay community that did watch TLW.

BTW, I think IC and crew should have fought harder to keep the show going. If people wanted out, one could have writtenethem out for awhile, because they would come back.

Now the spin off should take place in Chicago, JB is a former Chicagoan.

I think there is some unessecary panic

happening. We don't know that EB is going to 'challenge' their relationship. She could challenge Tasha and Alice, could hook up with Max, be a friend... anything that isn't related to breaking up Bette and Tina.

About JB's friends being on the show; My understanding is that Marlee was hired [i]without[/i] Jennifer knowing about it. There is nothing to say the same isn't true here. In hollyweird friends tend to end up on the same productions without any conspiring to make it so.

Whoa...

Can't wait for that one. Hopefully, if anybody does any doing--Bette and Tina will be doing it with E.B. together ;).

Gotta love "Showgirls." It's a campy, cult classic at this point--so bad, it's good!

At the rate they're going--J.B. will be lucky if she makes it out of the "L" with her hetero identity intact :).

I hope they bring on one more hot celeb that we'd never imagine would be on the "L" for a surprise cameo hook-up, since the show *is* set in Hollywood--where anything can happen & does. We don't get to see our fave girl celebs do other girls often, and for all we know the spin-off might not even be a gay show. Could just have a gay character, along with straight characters, in order to "broaden" it. So hopefully there will be at least a taste of exotic eye candy to take the final season over the top. I'd love to see Megan Fox, Adriana Lima, Beyonce, Kate Moss, Lisa Bonet, Rosario Dawson--it wouldn't be about the acting, really, just turning up the heat a few thousand notches.

Plus, I guess Jennifer's friends get to play gay for pay. I am not a fan of any of Elizabeth Berkley's work and am not impressed.

I agree

Why does IC insist on screwing with BP and TK. Damn, we just got them back together. Why more drama!?! I do not like EB, and I feel that with only 8 episodes that it should be spent on Tibette re-building their relationship. I hope that IC is intelligent enough to realize that the Tibetters will not be forgiving if she breaks them up in S6!

As for the spin-off I pray that it will not be JB and EB!! If it is, I will not watch, period. In my opinion, only JB and LH can pull off a spin-off, because No other character is strong enough to do it.

For all of us Tibetters, please keep them together for us. We lived through S3 and S4 waiting for the reunion, and it took the entire 5th season for them to reunite. PLEASE don't tear them apart now that we finally might get to watch them be a loving and happy family!

Elizabeth Berkley temptation

I think this could actually work. This could be the perfect opportunity for Bette to show Tina that she's not leaving their relationship anymore. She can be tempted by the college flame of EB's character and then prove to Tina and herself that she has finally progressed passed infidelity. Bette hasn't reached that level yet, as she proved again when she cheated on Jodi with Tina. This scenario could really bring the Bette and Tina relationship to a great close. And I'm with you TGFE, I couldn't see a spin off with JB and EB, not after what Bette and Tina have been through; but a little rejection by Bette of serious temptation in S6 would be great to see!

Just a thought.

Turning the Tables

How about bringing Nicole Ari Parker (Evie in the Incredible adventures of 2 girls in love) in as Elizabeth Berkley's partner (if she is gay) and let Tina work her magic again. If Elizabeth Berkley is straight when she appears, then bring Nicole Parker in as the new Provost of UC (kind of a Condi Rice type) as both Phyllis and Bette's boss. I would love to see Tina meet her at a reception with Bette!

On another play within a play twist: Tina's backstory that has never been told is that she grew up in Pittsburg and her father was the head of a steel foundry. Her parents divorced in 1983 when she was 12. I recently watched the collectors edition of FLASHDANCE and the actor who played Alex's boss was interviewed in the bonus materials and looks exactly right to be Tina's dad (remember his blond ex-wife?). What would Jennifer do if she met him for the first time at her wedding to Tina?

I'm going to change my nom de plume to LuHnatic with a twist. Oh well.

If there is a spin off with her in it, count me out!

Wow Lizstroup and Ninja, both of these ideas sound very interesting. I haven't seen Nicole since The Incedible... movie. She is very beautiful. I also think it would be great to see Bette on the coals for a while where Tina is concerned and not having a way out. She always runs to somone else when the going gets really rough, so I would love to see just how rough Ilene and the other writers could make it for her, and then throw in a little temptation and we are right back to S1, and what is Bette going to do?

I dreamed that Julia Watson and I play minor characters in the new web spin off. We are dubbed the Boob Tube Fraternal Twins, and we are always plotting to create new reality TV shows for the LGBT market. Rusty is our SciFi consultant.

The L Word meets The Golden Girls

I personally would love to see some kind of lesbo show that could be deemed the progeny of a meeting between The L Word and The Golden Girls. Bea Arthur would, obviously, still need to be 'the' star of the show -- tranny ferocia! Perhaps she could be roomies with Mr. Joyce Wishnia (as the Rue McClanahan character). As for the third... Lily Tomlin?

TV and Cranky, Sassy, Wise, Old Folks..strangely enough...

the only "golden" that advertisers see is the 18-29/30 boy wonder demographic. The days where networks air hillarious and wonderfully campy shows (or just funny sitcoms) like Golden Girls, The Cosby Show, etc., are long gone. Strange. No matter how "progressive thinking" we think we've become - tv programming tries hard to prove otherwise.

So, unless some 20-year-old producer comes up with a reality show depicting seniors as nude pole dancers reeking of Ben Gay and residual crankiness the "golden" age of old folks on tv is kaput.

I'm still crossing my fingers for CBS to renew Charles in Charge...uh...ok, not going to happen and I may get fingeritis (although I think Shane has that).

And I thought the fans around here were crazy! Glad Ms. Kate got back in one piece. I lived in Okinawa for a while and the people were amazing, but genuinely obsessed with all things American.
