Elizabeth Berkley Joins 'The L Word'

Yes, it's true! Elizabeth Berkley will be joining us in Season 6 of The L Word. You've all read what the "sources" have to say — how she'll be playing the straight girl that got away from Bette in college. And yes, we're so excited, we're so excited...
Well, I picked up Grace Moon's bat phone and dialed the source herself, Ilene Chaiken, to get a few more deets. Unfortunately, she's trying to keep this storyline under wraps like Jesse Spano's nasty little caffeine pill habit.
So, only one question remains: If The L Word ladies were re-cast in Saved By The Bell: The Lesbian Years, who would play whom? I’d personally cast Bette as Zack Morris and Phyllis as Mr. Belding. Who would make a good A.C. Slater? Shane? Thoughts anyone?

You are speaking for many of us. I am hoping IC or some of the staff are reading these. I am just so worried that Tibette has to go through more relationship drama. In addition, we do need to know something of Tina's past and family. That really isn't too much to ask.

YES, agreed completely. * begs * please oh please give us something surrounding Tina's family! I still never understood why no one was there for the loss of her baby and divorce. that's a lot go through without family. even if she was disowned b/c she's gay - let us know lol is Tina's family the biggest mystery of TLW? hmmm idk at least one of them.
Oh and Adele, evil witch, Tina needs to take her down and open William's eyes b/c he was so lied to. Y'all catch that at the wrap party how confused he looked when Jenny made her announcement and Adele was like 'dont listen to her' - oh i hate adele she's so evil lol

so, i just skimmed the comments, but i don't think i saw anyone give a rundown l word vs. sbtb characters. i definitely watched this show religiously after school when i was a kid.

zachary (zack) morris: bette, c'mon alpha male.
kelly kapowski: tina. hottie, and always off and on with zack.
lisa turtle: alice, maybe?
jessica (jessie) myrtle spano: i dunno, jenny?

Wow, it's a panic riot
A new character does not mean a new storyline solely around her. Out gals do interact with the outside world, so crossing paths with other people is not a bad thing.
Just because Bette knew and was attracted to EB's character does not mean she is going to challenge Bette and Tina's relationship.
EB has not always acted well, but they are in roles that aren't directed or written well. She has pulled of some roles, and actors grow. Honestly, we don't even know how much screen time we are looking at here, so is it really worth the panic and jibes?
I dunno... I think it could be interesting seeing someone from Bette's past (that isn't family), could explain some things about her present.

Have a request, if new characters are being added to the storylines, why doesn't Showtime extend the season from 8 episodes to 12 episodes? That way we will get a full season with all the drama, fans wont be upset about new characters adding to the storylines and there will be enough time to justify and end the series by wrapping up character storylines. This way everyone will be happy!!

EB is ne of the worst actress I have ever seen in my life. And yes, I think its a bad idea to intruduce a new charecter in the last seson. But if they allready have decided then... plzz have some dancing.

The concept of a "straight girl that got away" is a BIG stretch for me. Seriously writers? Why? Is the L Word locked in some perpetual endless loop of "will she/won't she" for Bette? I guess it's easier to recycle storylines with slight variations than advance real character development. Best to stay superficial and shallow. Such is life. I was hoping Bette would eventually find her misplaced principles and convictions.

I also agree and bitch pretty regulary about the lack of story, character development, a little thing called creativity yady, yady.
They've proven that they can't do large ensembels well. I guess the fix for that is well yep - add yet another chracter. Bring back some of the really awful past characters Papi - Really. Add this to the 20 + characters you couldn't develop last year cut the season to 8 eps and well there's the recipe for what???
Jumping from scene to scene, character to character until we'll all dizzy and bored, confused and NOBODY's story gets told. With WTF's that are so bizarre that whole blogs on other boards are dedicated to them - hey you have to discuss something.
Oh well it's still the only game in town so, let the games begin.
PS: I have nothing against EB. She seems like a sweet person. And about her acting( no comment I've never seen her in anything) but; MM had an OSCAR and she couldn't convince anyone she was a lesbian. At least EB is playing straight(so they say)!!! It's not her it's the quanity over quality mind set. 20+ characters 45 min - yep there will be a lot of open ends for spin off's !!

1986 Oscars: Sigourney Weaver should have won for Aliens that year. Nothing against Marlee, but Sigourney was slighted. They should have awarded the two of them.

I'm so cinama lacking I didn't see Aliens, Whatever OSCAR movie MM was in or the alledged awful movie EB was in. Can't comment on the OSCAR thing or EB's talent or lack thereof.
I am an admitted over the top Bette fan, so every minute wasted on anyone other then core cast to me is a minute that Bette's not there and I irrationally bitch about it.
Even though I'm irrational that doesn't mean the cast isn't toooo large..

Honestly, the only thing I've seen EB in was Showgirls and that's been some time ago. My memory is she and Gina were pretty good together. I am guessing this will be a big test for Bette. I hope she can live up to her own personal convictions and standards. It would be nice to see Bette and Tina go out on a high note as the series concludes. Of course, being the huge TiBette fan that I am... that's my hope.
Bette and Tina have been seriously hurting each other for 5 seasons with zero communication. Is it too much to ask that these characters start acting like two people who do love and respect each other? Or, are they too emotionally damaged for that to happen?

I read that she does a lot of great work for young women, helping them to build their self esteem and life skills. She earned total points with me when I learned that so I'm happy to see her on the show. As for her acting well..let's say for example that I wrote a really bad paper in High School but did well in college. I wouldn't want people to judge my entire worth on that one paper. I'm sure she has done very well in other things.
All I care about it a well-written storyline and an ultimately happy Tibette. :)

Remember people the writing
Remember people the writing has a lot to do with the preformance as a whole. "ShowGirls" and "Saved By the Bell" = bad plot-line and bad writing. Come on, "Saved By the Bell" was a show geard toward what? 10-14 yr.olds? Please, your not going to see emmy award winning acting on a morning teen show. And "ShowGirls" same thing, bad script, BAD script. It's probably very hard to have good acting with horrible writing.
I've never seen it, but she's suposed to be good in "Roger Doger" with Jennifer Beals.
Maybe EB will knock our socks off and be brillant with her character. Give the woman a chance.

Why is IC adding a new character during the final season? Plus, there are only eight episodes planned. CAN'T THE FOCUS BE ON THE CORE CHARACTERS?

these core characters have to interact with other people. Just because she is going to be there doesn't mean it is going to be about EB's character.

If any one in interested and have not seen the worst performance by an actress in the last century, Showgirls will air on VH1 at 11:30E/10:30C tonight.
I doubt anyone will be able to watch the entire film unless they are gluttons for punishment or are masochistic at heart!.

Showgirls is on Logo right now, so I just tuned into it. There's so much buzz about EB here (who i don't even recognize), so I'm taking your suggestion and watching. The fact that I don't recall seeing her before means that she didn't make any kind of impression--good or bad. It'll be good to watch her with all of these passionate comments in mind.

ok, elizabeth berkley is probably not the best actress in the world i agree, but i trust ic and the rest of the crew, they've done an amazing job so far and any actress that has joined the lword fit in and did a great job as far as i know.. so who knows, she might actually turn out to be good. i dont really care who they cast anyways, i trust them on that, as long as they dont mess up with bette and tine again, i could not take it, i repeat, I COULD NOT TAKE IT!! GO MESS WITH SOMEONE ELSE'S RELATIONSHIP FOR ONCE WOULD YA?!!!

i just don't think its credible to have bette screw everything up again, i mean bette and tina are so in love with each other, the amazing chemistry between jennifer beals and laurel holloman doesn't leave any doubt that their characters just belong to each other, they just fit. and after all that happened it just doesnt make any sense to mess it all up again. damm it i feel they've given bette and tina so much hard time. i havent even had that much drama in my life. and im a lesbian...

Bella I am COMPLETELY WITH YOU on the Jane Fonda addition. I think she is ideally suited to play Bette's mom (I know, I know the whole deceased storyline gets involved there - but a girl can dream) but Tina's mom is okay too. I'm there for any Jane Fonda storyline.

well, i don't expect the introduction
of a mother for the Tina character at this late date (not being negative, just doesn't seem likely)...however, if we are throwing out names just for kicks, i would perhaps choose Gena Rowlands or Shirley McLaine to portray Mrs. Kennard.
re. EB - I feel no angst over this announcement - while tension/drama may be necessary to keep fans from becoming complacent, for me,it seems clear that Ms. Chaiken has truly reconciled with the fact that the couple Tibette has taken on a life of its' own, despite writing to the contrary; that that particular couple has their own truth and their own story that the writing needs to honor and reflect - thus, I think that couple will continue to grow together as well as individuals and that Ms. Chaiken is not looking to turn Tibette Nation on its' collective head.

that well but I did see her and Jennifer in Roger Dodger (great movie, btw). And it was said she starred in Saved By the Bell, I never saw this show. I guess for being in my early 50's this show was a kid's show? Is this the one with Mario Lopez in it ? Anyway, I do feel bad for EB. I mean so many of you are extremely distraught and I can certainly understand that the entrance of a new character feels threatening but to say things like she can't act or she is this or that, it's sad. What if she were reading this? It's a bit heartless, don't you think ? I think everyone deserves respect regardless of what you think their talent rates. I'm sure she's a fine person, anyone who is JB's friend must be. (Oh boy, I can already feel the replies flying back at me).

No one is saying anything about what kind of person she is, or attacking who she is or her character. She does however work in the entertainment industry; therefore, this can't be something that she hasn't heard before. I am so sure that she is used to the criticism, most actors and actresses are. She has probably heard this before , the truth hurts especially when it's so obvious.

Elizabeth Berkley can not..REPEAT... CAN NOT ACT! She couldn't in Showgirls and she remains as stiff and expressionless today with her recent exposure on CSI-Miami. Watching David Caruso and Elizabeth Berkley on screen together was about as interesting and compelling as watching mold grow in the dark!!!!!
She is I think the only actor who has been nominated for Worst Actress of the Century. She did win Worst Actress and Worst New Actress in the same year! I think that pretty much sums up her acting chops!

Bette is only happy when in power. Now that Tina has found herself, and is on her level, Bette will become restless, and do what she does best. Cheat. The only question now is; with who? Should that be with EB? I'd like to reserve that answer until I see what they do with her as a character.
