"Elizabeth Berkley, who flirted with the L word during her Showgirls days, is joining the Showtime hit for a multi-episode arc, sources confirm to me exclusively. She'll play the straight girl that got away from Jennifer Beals' Bette in college.
Berkley and Beals, in addition to being real-life buds, co-starred together in the 2002 comedy noir Roger Dodger. For a glimpse at their sparkling chemistry, check out this popular YouTube clip, shot behind the scenes on Rodger Dodger.
The L Word's sixth and final season debuts next January, although Showtime recently announced that the L-verse would live on in the form of a spin-off -- perhaps anchored by Beals and Berkley? (Check out that YouTube clip again; I see potential!)"
For the life of me I can never understand Ilene's casting choices. Elizabeth Berkley? UGH!
Just because she is a friend of Jennifers doesn't mean she has to be given a part on this show. ILENE....have you ever seen this woman act? She CAN'T!!!!! In fact Max could give Ms. Berkley some acting lessons.
If this is suppose to be some hot straight chick that got away from Bette in college, it isn't going to play. I can think of way hotter women and ones who can act that could pull that character off. Unfortunately, Elizabeth Berkley is just simply not one of them.
Ilene, you have only eight episodes. Why are you wasting screen time and story line the inclusion of Elizabeth Berkley?

Seasom 5 is the end of L WORD for me
am actually scared to watch season 6 of the l word. i would rather live in my little fantasy world and believe they lived happily ever after at the end of season 5.
i really don't have much respect for IC as a writer if every season she has to bring in new characters to add "spice" to the show. For crying out loud it is only 8 episodes and she still feel the need to bring in some one new?
if she cannot hold the audience's attention for 8 episodes with the cast she has now, what is that telling us about her?

Also with all of these new cast members how can there be enough screen time to tie up all of the core casts' storylines? We don't get another season and the last season we do have, we get shortchanged!!! IC,seriously, WTF were you thinking? New cast members,IMO, are taking away from the main cast.
It's just for shock value....
I think IC does alot of writing for shock value. But I think when you have great characters and great storylines we don't always need the shock value to make it good. Keeping Tina and Bette away for so long and having them do some of the stuff they did was not always necessary I don't think. And constantly bring new characters in when we don't even get enough of the regulars is kind of crazy. I understand you have to keep the storylines exciting but sometimes IC goes over board with new characters and crazy storlines. Like Shane screwing all those girls at the wedding when she was doing their hair was so tacky. I would have liked to see a more mature side of Shane and I feel like we never got that, if any thing she got worst....her character just turned me off.
Which is why the real shock value will be when people
stop supporting the projects that she writes with that same old storyline. It's predictable and familiar. I must admit that changed the chanel when the Jodie(u know the hot f***)storyline
continued to go on and on. It was anything but hot! Now with this last season, we have to watch another friend of Jennifers' ( the one that got away or whatever), will probably be one that should have GONE AWAY!

I totally agree that casting this actress is a total mistake. She really can't act and she is not hot to me. And if this is another one of Ilene's attempts to break Tibette up well I think I will just stop watching it now because I don't think I can handle another dramatic breakup. These two have been through enough. Why is it that Ilene just cannot stand for these two to be happy together? I think that Ilene is jealous of the chemistry between Bette and Tina(Laurel and Jennifer) and that her famous Jenny didn't get the popularity that was intended.

That is a very interesting comment about Ilene being jealous of the chemistry between Bette and Tina (JB & LH), and Jenny not getting the popularity she intended. Maybe Nancy Drew needs to investigate this one. I never thought about it that way but your right, IC knows how much everyone loves Tina and Bette together. Why would she break them up? And why for so long??? Now to bring a new character from Bette's past into the last season.....yeah, something does not sound right. What is up with that IC?? Where is Nancy Drew when you need her?

Why not the story has to be creative and exciting right they could give us what we want in one ep them together happy forever make them show us they have earned it and know completely, it may be interesting people give IC a chance I can see it them both being reaffirmed about each other having separate temptations and coming out the other side sure and more in love than ever right? Why must we all be so negative from the beginning? Just see and trust the writers it has been nothing but good so far!

and point guys! i hope the spinn off (if the rumours a true and if IC is in her SANE state of mine) will be about Jenny, Shane, James, Dana´s ghost, it doesn´t really matter for me.
the fact is that´s not Jennifer Beals withough Laurel Holloman and vice versa.This is not just because i´m TIBETTE fan, but it wouldn´t make ANY sense.
IC needs to know that if she screw up with Bette and Tina she will have NO credibility in any other project she makes and the OC will not survive, no way.Plus people would get so pissed that it would be better if IC stay in her home or move to Timbuktu or something like that.
So let Bette and Tina walk together into the Sunset Blv. and don´t screw up the show like season 3.
I don´t think neither Jb and Luh will agree to get Bette and Tina apart in the finale, since they made all kinds of efforts to make this couple get together again. I don´t think both would do such a mean thing with the fans and their charecters.I can´t talk about IC but she would be just stupid shooting in her own feet!

TRYING TO UNDERSTAND....
I am trying to understand IC's choice. I really would like to see someome like Piper Perabo on the show. I never did like Showgirls, although I love Gina Gershon. There are alot of factors here, she's friends with JB, we know she someone from Bette's past, so we are all looking at this with daggers pointing at her (EB). I say lets give her a chance. Maybe she will come aboard and be a blast from Bette's past but will turn out to be nothing but friends with Bette and TINA, and end up hooking up with Helena or Alice. Now that won't be so bad, it may actually be a good thing. She is cute. And EB and Helena or Alice could be pretty hot.... :)

JAZZ- I have to say, I agree with your post. Elizabeth Berkeley is quite terrible and there are a million other people who could have played that role.
Not to mention- there are only 8 episodes left- who wants to watch Jessie Spano waste screen time?
What are you thinking Ilene? And people wonder at the lack of critical acclaim and Emmy nominations for The L Word. Make more appropriate choices!
Elizabeth Berkeley is clearly too young to have "gotten away" from Bette in college. I love Jennifer Beals, she look amazing, but she looks older the EB because SHE IS! Get serious- find someone better if you insist on adding this new character!

Being Elizabeth's character is Bette's college "heartbreak" and the age difference. That part does not make sense.
But, I'm just gonna have to tune in an watch it unravel. And try not to prejudge it.
I have a feeling...most people on here will end up doing the same, except for the prejudging part :D

She is such a waste of screen time. What needed to happen maybe 3 years ago is to explain why a major character, (Tina) doesn't have a family. Adding Berkley is such a waste, she sucks as an actress and I don't care whose friend she is. The truth is the truth!

I would like to know more about Tina's family- she is the only character that we have learned nothing about. That would be a great storyline and think of the guest star potential if they hired someone good to play her mom or dad!
She was my least favorite
She was my least favorite back in Saved By The Bell. I can remember the episode when Zack and Jessie kissed and I was like nooo!!! I always hated their close friendship. (It was my favorite show back in the day, what can I say I'm an 80's kid.)
I also remember watching Showgirls cause I heard Gina Gershen (I think I spelt that wrong) was in it, but it was horrible.
She just doesn't do it for me.. like at all.
But maybe she'll do well, and maybe she got hotter, gotta be optimistic about the inevitable.

After thinking about it some more (yes, I do have a life! lol) I became pissed that we haven't heard anything about actors being cast to play Tina's parents or someone in her family. If there was ever a character (or two) that needed to be added to the show, it would be them.
BTW, I was driving down a major street in Hollywood today on my way home and I saw a huge billboard advertising shows on Showtime. The shows were "Weeds," "Brotherhood," "Californication," and another one I can't remember.
But guess which show wasn't on that billboard? That's right. "The L Word" was nowhere to be found. Now, IC is developing another show (on or offline) with this network and they diss her current show like that? Unbelievable!

is unaware ? He seems to like TLW very much, wouldn't he have the clout to do something about one of the major shows missing on that list ? It's almost as if there's some kind of subtle underlying dislike or distaste that no one talks about regarding TLW and this is the only way we notice it....when it seems to be mysteriously missing and goes unnoticed. TLW is MIA from numerous things, nominations for awards, Showtime advertisements, show hosts who won't discuss TLW when they have a guest who is a regular cast member (i.e. Marlee on the Ellen Show). What the hell is going on ? This is a great way for lesbians to feel good about ourselves, isn't it?

I'm surprised IC is even continuing the show, because all she has to hear and read is people bitching. You guys, IC is the boss, whatever she says goes. If you don't like the show don't watch it. It's that easy. I wish she would put Paris Hilton in the show too just too piss everyone off more. I like the show for what it is, it's fun and I appreciate the work that she and her writers do.
Without us there will be no L Word. So if we want to bitch
about the possible break up of our favorite characters we have that right. You had a right to express what you posted and so does everyone else.
For you the L Word is fun ,understanding, it is. But for some women TLW is more than that. Some women live in countries and societies that make it impossible for them to come out and live free. So to them the L Word is all they have to identify with. So you may view it just a fun a show others view it as a life line.
