The Secret of The L Word Spin-Off

Solving mysteries. I’ve just added that to the special skills section on my resume, along with making Nancy Drew my alternate alias. It’s official. I’m taking on the task of solving the mystery of The L Word spin-off series, and while I do so, I would like to pretend I’m Nancy Drew if that’s okay with all of you.

I’m thinking a new, revised, revamped N. Drew. Maybe she just goes by Drew now, and if she’s tipsy it’s Nancy, Miss Drew if you’re nasty. This is quarter-life-Nancy. This is creditors-are-calling-Nancy. She solves real mysteries, like “The Haunted Hangover,” and “The Curse of the Abnormal Pap.”

Let’s face it. If Nancy Drew were in Vancouver at The L Word production office with all of this buzz flying around about a new series, what would she do? Exactly. So from this day forth, I’m wearing a WWND (What Would Nancy Do) bracelet, a pleated skirt three inches too short, and a knapsack full of Knob Hill everyday to work. Oh, and maybe a magnifying glass, for snooping through Ilene’s desk. And a bloodhound. I might need a bloodhound.

Check out my first day sleuthing on the job as N. Drew.

If it's Jenny I'm not

If it's Jenny I'm not watching anymore. I freakin hate Jenny. she is the worst character on the show! but alice and shane i could watch...as long as i get some periodical Tasha.. Now is there actual talk about a spin off show or is this woman pulling at my heart strings?

Bette/Tina or Alice

Those are my picks for spin offs!

It would be awesome to have a show about a lesbian couple raising a child. I also think that Alice has many other dimensions that could be explored.

No Shane--she is too one dimensional. How much skirt chasing can one stand?

No Jenny - My goodness she got on my last nerve this past season with her needy, whiny, have it my way or no way attitude. Even though it was ashamed what Shane and the lead actress in her movie, (forgot her name) did.

My vote is for Bette and Tina, I'll take Alice too!

Tina and Bette Spin-Off....

I look on the boards everyday to see if there is any information about the spin-off but not much being said.

If I can climb the top of the highest mountain, I would scream to Showtime and Ilene Chaiken...............

GIVE US A TINA AND BETTE SPIN-OFF!!!!!!!!

These women give us class, talent, excitement, sexy, everything that a great show should be. If they are gone television will suffer a great loss.

Please Please Give us TIBETTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

classic

i love the video!!!

Always entertaining, Cassie.

I look forward to the next installment when Nancy gets caught trying to plant a nanny cam, or queen bee cam, in Ms. Chaiken's office. Hey, nobody said getting to the truth would be safe...

Personally, I think a Jenny spin-off would absolutely rock! She's consistently fascinating and entertaining. Continuing either Jenny's story or Alice's could be very interesting, and very funny.

well..

Alice and Shane would be great for a spinoff..
I know you Tibetters love your couple, and I think theyre fantastic as well. While I love the idea of happily ever after, as a 21 year old Im a little more into the action and excitement of new things I suppose.

Plus, cmon. Who doesnt love watching Alice? She's hilarious and Im sure most of us can relate to her

Well said

I totally agree :)

CASSIE

LOUISIANA CSI MADE A MISTAKE ON A NAME
ITS NOT KAREN I WANTED TO SAY, ITS DANA
THE TENNIS PLAYER.
WILL BE THE SPIN-OFF, DANA WILL HAVE HER ON SHOW
ARE BE ON THE L WORD AS A SPIRT OR SOMEBODY
ELSE. NASTY DREW KEEP UP THE WORK.
GIVE ME PART 2 OF WHAT YOU FOUND OUT.
THAT WAY I CAN HELP SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.

TIBETTE SPINOFF?

I like the person who commented, "Bette and Tina already had their own show...it was called The L word..."
HAHAHAHA!!! :D SO TRUE! I'm sorry but these two together bore me and I've seen enough of their drama to last a lifetime. Yay they're together..woohoo...happily ever after...that's it...lets move on!!

Besides, if they had a spinoff, you know it would just be them constantly fighting and probably another affair on Bette's part. Who wants to relive that again? Not me!

I really don't know who's going to be in the spinoff though. What if Ilene brings Dana back? I know she died on the l word but HEY! This is a spinoff!! She could use the character Dana as if she never died. Who knows...it could happen! (:

I completely agree!

Where else can their relationship really go anyway? And if the show wants to keep pulling in a younger, more diverse audience - then Bette and Tina is not the answer.

I think the Shane and Jenny characters are the only characters who have a lot of room for growth and development.

great

That'd be great. Maybe Dana's life before she met the girls. A bit boring since she was in the closet...but anyway, Dana would be great!

Sorry you don't agree

Sorry you don't agree that Tina and Bette are the best to do a spin-off. The only one who can really answer that question is IC and Showtime, by who got the most response from fans through letters or whatever. Look at some of the boards, one forum Laurel Holloman had over 25,000 posts and Jennifer Beals had over 21,000 everyone else from the L Word had under 1,000, that should tell IC and Showtime right there who's more popular. Personally I think Tina and Bette are far from boring. I am sure they have a bigger following then any other characters on the show. One big reason is Jennifer Beals carries a big name. Two, Laurel Holloman has just blown the screen up with what she has brought to the show. Three, as a couple, reality is that they are a power couple.....kind of like what Luke and Laurel was on General Hospital. Despite some negative comments, which there will always be, they are super hot, super exciting, and interesting to watch. They are far from boring!!! They have the chemistry on screen that very few have. It's up to the writers to keep their stories exciting not the actresses. These actresses have what it takes to capture an audience, it will be up to Ilene to continue to be creative in her writing to keep their storylines going. Any character can be boring or exciting, whether it's Bette & Tina or if it's Shane or Alice....that totally depends on the writers. I think from a business stand point, Tina and Bette are the only ones who can successfully do a spin-off.

You are Totally Correct

Dolphin, your are totally correct. The premise of the show began, per Ilene, with Bette and Jenny. Show me the money actress!! It's definitely Jennifer Beals for the L Word! Bette and Tina have the largest fan base of all the cast members. Some of the naysayers should visit tibette.com. How many other L Word characters have a website dedicated to them? Visit Youtube and it's primarily Bette and Tina.

Tibette as a committed monogamous couple is the storyline we haven't seen yet. I, like you, don't think the L Word writers are so limited and pigeonholed they can't produce stories of interest to all lesbians; young or old. I agree no one wants to see another Bette affair, but this doesn't mean there is no other story for them to tell. So what if some viewers find them dull or boring. Majority rules.

If Ilene is as smart I know she is, shes knows what age demographic has made the most financial investment in The L Word and L Word products, and so does Showtime. It's all about the Benjamins and I'm sure the spin-off will explore what will be the most profitable, first and foremost.

SydneyC

I second that

Totally agree with you Dolphin

Sorry You Don't Agree

I agree with you 100% Dolphin. They are the ONLY ones to be successful and who are interesting to watch.

TIBETTE SPIN-OFF!

lovethelword

BORING??? Clearly we are not watching the same show!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TiBette reminds me of my own relationship. They remind me of my neighbors, my friends, straight or gay. I have said it before and I will say a thousand more times, I only watched this show because of this dynamic duo. Yeah, the other characters added flavor: Alice. But it was Tibette that had me glued to the screen every week. It is Tibette's scenes that I fast forward to when I am watching the past seasons (all scenes not just the sexual ones). It is Jennifer Beals and Laurel Holloman's unguarded performance that keeps TiBette in my heart.
TiBette never had a dull moment in my book. I don't understand y people are saying that the L Word was their show. If memory serves me correctly Shane( Carmen, Shay, her father, Cherie)Alice (Dana, Tasha, Phyllis) and Kit(her son, Angus, Charles' Dutton married character) had a lot of screen time dedicated to their stories. So in my book if TiBette is the one who sticks out in ur mind its probably because they were the most interesting and exciting couple to burn up ur screen!! TiBette Forever!!! For anybody else HI HATERS WE TIBETTERS SEE YOU!!!!!!!!!

The Tibette show...

You have to admit, the last two seasons have been VERY focused on tibette. EVERYTHING revolved around them. The whole Bette/Tina/Jodi thing was dragged out way too long. Great if you like them but I enjoy seeing what's going on with the other cast members too. Remember a show called The L Word?? It was about a close group of lesbian friends who all had their own stories to tell and all received a fair share of screentime. That show no longer exists. The L word has been replaced with a new show called, "Tibette and those other girls..."

I'm hoping the new season won't be as disappointing as the last two seasons have been. Enough screentime has been focused on this couple, lets move on. In season 6, I'd like to see some closure for the rest of the characters on the show and if not, I'd love to see one of them continue on in the spinoff series.

BUT PLEASE...not Tibette!!

PLEASE REWATCH THE LAST TWO SEASONS!!!!

AS I recall the last two seasons were also centered around Jenny and her stupid movie. Now that was long and drawn out and pointless. Let us not forget Shane with Paige and Shane with Molly. OH wait a minute there was also a big chunk dedicated to Shane and her brother Shay. Kit had her screen time with the cheating Angus. Max had her screen time trying to get everyone else to understand her transtioning to a man.
Every character has had their share. They were not put in the background. It may seem that way because of the overwhelming support that TiBette receives. But again everyone got their turn.
If Tibette has received those few extra scenes it's because Ilene has to play to her core audience. I do like all the other characters, I do. But let's face it TiBette is the cream of the crop.
I want to get the chance to see them happy. I want to see them parent Angelica more. There's more for this couple and I for one would like to see that. Relive their relationship again and just maybe you'll agree or at least understand us TiBetters love for them.

AS I recall the last two

AS I recall the last two seasons were also centered around Jenny and her stupid movie. Now that was long and drawn out and pointless.

Really? I know several people who just finally got drawn into the show this past season because of Jenny and the movie storyline. But to each her own I guess...

I don't have to admit

that the show has been about Tibette and what is happening with them. Really, The L Word is Jenny's show, and everyone else tends to get caught up in her madness.

So no, I disagree with you whole heartedly, I think the show has been about the ensemble, at times too much so that episodes have been a little too full of ensemble happenings.

While you may see the Tibette show, I really don't see how you get that idea. If it was, we wouldn't have had any growth of any of the other characters at all.

totally agree

with you, Deean. This show was about the group, their friendship, their mutual support and that's why I loved every minute of it. Tibette was not boring in that context.
I also am a passionate tibetter, I also watched and re-catched every minute of their scenes in the past seasons more than any other characther. JB is one of my two favorite actresses on the show (the other is Leisha), I think she and LH have incredible chemistry and they definitely keep you glued to the screen. I also relate to their stories and see them in my life. BUT I think they told their story! They said a lot, they grew up, they showed how a couple can overcome obstacles and be together no matter what, they set an example and all. I frankly think other dramas would be too much to watch, right now. I wouldn't want to, anyway. And I'm one of those "contacts" on the Tibette forums. Also, I have to say hat if they'll do a Tibette spinoff just thinking about business, I'd be disappointed: what I love about the L Word is how it makes me think, how it makes me face different realities, different point of views, different stories and how it always dared through the seasons, to do so. How the writers were brave. I admire them a lot. And a "business" choice would be disappointing. We'll see, I'm very curious. :)

I'm one of those people

who see that none of their stories will ever be finished being told, so whoever gets the spin off I'll be pretty happy about it - unless it's Max, and that's because I just don't see anything interesting in watching that character at all...

There are so many stories that could be told about them all, including Bette and Tina... but ya know, in the end anyway it isn't my baby so I hope Ilene gets to make what she wants to see.

:)

Mind you - wouldn't you think it would be brave to write a drama about a lesbian couple with a child? I am not sure it's something that has ever been done before as we are a youth and beauty orientated society.

well yeah

Well, yeah it would, as soon as the baby starts to speak and think her own thoughts, since it'd be interesting to see what angelica could face (we already saw something of what bette and tina would face). I think I wrote it here somewhere that I'd like a Tibette-in-ten-years spin-off, with a grown-up angie. :)

Shane are you for real???

I work so hard at staying away from unhealthy people. And friends that will stab you in the back like Shane did to Jenny. Why in the world would anyone be interested in watching her in a spin-off is beyond me. I stay away from Shane's in my personal life and could care less about watching them on tv. The only characters worth putting in a spin-off is Bette, Tina and Alice. Tina and Bette were not boring for five (going on six) years so they won't be boring for a spin-off that's for sure. And Alice, OMG, she so funny....you just want to squeeze her and give her a big fat kiss. Take these three and build new characters around them, the spin-off would be a HIT!!! If, not I think alot of people could take it or leave it.

tibette spin-off

They weren't boring because they had plenty of up and downs. As a tibetter, I'd be happy to know them happy everafter :D So unless the spin-off takes place in 10 years when Angie gets in her adolescence and we can see what happens then, I would not be interested in seeing other ups and downs. :) Let them be a great couple in our minds! :)

lol

haha very gd

its gotta be shane she will not be settled into a relationship by the time shes 50 lol

cassie you're great

OMG Cassie you crack me up. I spent two hours reading through your blogs and you're so great. I must also tell you tou're actually doing my dream job. LOL Can't wait for next thursday!

The spin-off? Shane or Alice, of course. I'm a tibetter, but I would be totally bored by their everyday life in LA. A GREAT spin-off would be Alice AND Shane, actually.

Spinoff...

It really needs to be Tibette..Any one else, the show wouldn't last past the internet.Sorry.The other actors are great but their characters couldn't keep everyone's attention.Does anyone know when The l word convention in LA is?

IC

IC looks like a "can't be bothered" beeatch.

I would imagine the majority

I would imagine the majority audience that watches The L Word are working adults who pay for Showtime. Adults who can stay up after 10pm at night to watch the show. So my guess is that most of the audience are thirties and forties, which is a more mature audience. So, if we have a show for a more mature audience, I would think that they would want to watch a show that has storylines that have substance and meaning behind them. Not just stories of girls with a million issues and sleeping around. I think the Bette and Tina storylines of course are very hot, but the audience connects to them because of the emotional and surreal issues that these two go through. Trying to get pregnant, miscarriage, race, discrimination towards gay/lesbian couples (rights), work related issues, losing love and finding it again...etc., these are real issues that are deep and have real meaning behind them. People can actually connect and relate to the Tina and Bette storylines, esspecially in todays climate. If I wanted to watch a show with meaningless storylines they are a dime a dozen shows to pick from, but I would prefer not to even watch tv, but to have a show that has some value and meaning behind it, with storylines like Bette and Tina's.....are worth doing a spin-off. IC is a great writer and can continue writing storylines for this amazing couple....if she runs out of ideas, I am sure there are many people that will love to give her ideas, but I know IC won't have any problem. Bette and Tina are too interesting and exciting to not have no where to go with their stories.

Most of the women I know in

Most of the women I know in my age group (forties) are in bed by 10. They all think I'm some anomalous freak. I do like a good story line, though. Mommy 1 and Mommy 2 just don't do that for me.

:)Taem?

Well if they are in bed

They probably are in bed by 10pm to watch the L Word. And probably hoping they will get a little afterwards :)

Tina and Bette can be Mommy 1 and Mommy 2 but they are still one of the hottest couples ever on TV.

CASSIE

YOU BE NASTY DREW OVER THERE
AND I BE CSI IN LOUISIANA, AND I TELL
YOU WHAT I THINK. THE L WORD WILL STAY TOGETHER
AND THE SPIN OFF IS KAREN THE TENNIS PLAYER.

omg. ilene looks so pissed

omg. ilene looks so pissed off!

Other side of IC

I think she's just showing us that she can work the other side of the camera.

:)Taem?

See this is the problem...

SPIN OFFS ARE JUST THE NEXT BEST THING!
Here's a great example...there's the Grey's Anatomy spin-off (Private Practice)...yeah it's interesting and all BUT IT ISN'T GREY'S ANATOMY. Why??? because it's the same concept from Gray's Anatomy minus the drama, and minus the incredible wittiness...

But since the L Word is thinking this is the way to go then I think ALICE and SHANE are the way to go, Together in their own spin-off as roommates, while Alice is trying to find the Perfect girl to replace Dana, and Shane is trying to make it up to Carmen in every way possible!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

Alice and Jenny's dynamic....

Would kinda sorta be hilarious to watch <3

Oh, the SHENANIGANS!

I'm all for....

See, i'm all for a TiBette spin-off, the only problem being is i don't think they have much more stories to tell - unless they are going to break them up again or have them face some sort of huge crisis where it becomes like a 'Mrs and Mrs Smith' deal and they have to fight a huge evil coporation who threaten to blow up The Planet and other...stuff

Nah, i just don't see longevity TiBette spin-off.

however, i can see a spin-off with Alice, maybe even Shane - unless it's just going to be girls chasing after Shane, Shane chasing after girls and some huge montage where everyone is just running as some sort of parody to Baywatch.

i don't think we have explored all possible storylines that Alice or some of the other major/minor characters can fall into.

i think the idea of a spin-off is a good one but i don't think it'll be as popular without the group's dynamics and having to get used to an entirely new cast

farewell my lovely

brush up your phillip marlowe -- no success comes to the private detective sans secretary. rent the dvd of "maltese falcon" -- oops! what am i saying? it's sam spade who's got the secretary. you're actually very phillip marlowe... sans the metaphors. you might work on your metaphors. like "as inconspicuous as a black widow spider on a slice of angel food cake." that sort of thing. or was it "tarantula?"

NO NEED

why not just keep the L word?

Splitting up these characters would be... strange

there's really no need for a spin-off

KEEP THE REAL THAAANG!

...plus Tibette is great and all but the hypothetical spin-off would be better with Leisha / Alice ... she's the shit!

I've wondered the same

I've wondered the same thing!

HOT HOT HOLLOMAN

I AGREE... IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT...

Showtimw keep the show together... even if its 8 eppy's a year... we will take it...

Ilene's Window

So what, Ilene closed the door on you, there's always her window. I pray Ilene listens to the overwhelming demand of her L Word viewers. Better yet, maybe we should all make the trip to Vancouver, and have our voices physically heard.

Jennifer Bealls and Laurel Holloman are the only cast members that can guarantee a profitable spin off. They are viewed as one, "Tibette". With so many gay couples still fighting for the right to marry, the right to parent and adopt their children, the right to serve openly gay in the military, the right to be openly gay in their workplace, and the right to be themselves; why end educating the masses in season 6?

Bette and Tina offer an opportunity to show society some of what we endure when in a committed relationship and parenting. What California has done allows them to marry legally. They've never had to hide who they are in fear of retribution, or have the state come in and take away your biological child because you're in a lesbian relationship.
They've not had to live a lie, and fight CPS to regain custody of a child. These are harsh realities many gay and lesbian couples face.

We're fortunate to have survived 11 years together in a state that refuses to recognize gays and lesbians as viable members of society. A Tibette spin off could address issues couples and parents face while maintaining the love they share not only for their partner, but also for their children. We had to find a church where our children didn't hear their mothers will burn in hell. We fought to legally adopt one another's children, and dealt with the hurt they've endured because of prejudice, bias, and ignorance.

The L Word was pioneering, the spin off should be that and more.

SydneyC

Whoa

IC did you tell someone to tell someone to tell someone to tell someone.....that there will be a spinoff? And, that spinoff will be ONE of the original cast members? So, if that cast member is from season one, it can only be one of the following, Bette, Tina, Jenny, Shane, Alice, Kit, or Marina. It can't be Dana because she was killed off. It won't be Kit. It could be Jenny, but they would have to have her move to another city or state. It shouldn't be Shane, there is no story line, unless, they decide to have her be a photographer in LA, eventually around the globe. Bette could be fired by Phyllis because Phyllis was just not a good idea to begin with, who thinks Jodi is great, who was just not a good idea to being with. Bette could be offered a job in San Francisco or another city or state. Bette could start her life over without Tina, who would not leave her job in LA. Tina could be fired because Adelle has the boys on her side, Tina could be offered a job in NY, and Bette will not leave LA. Tina and Kate Arden could meet up again and start a whole new life in NY. Although I don't see Bette and Tina as the characters, even though the two of them would make a great story line. Enough time to find out about Tina's family and past. How two lesbians can make great Mother's. How two lesbians can have a long term relationship that turns out completely fulfilling. I forgot that Bette would not let Tina move to NY with Angelica or move to another location that would prevent her from seeing Angelica. That leaves Alice, new talk show, breaking up with Tasha, having fling with the fashion lady (can't remember her name, but remember her on 2 1/2 men), continuing Our Chart. Alice could be a comedy instead of a drama, new twist on the lesbian life. I think it is Alice! :)
I would love to have Bette and Tina continue. It would be great to show the world that lesbians can f**k up, be forgiven and live a great family life, have success, have a vacation, have friends, and just be happy. hmmm....
If you don't dream you live in a nightmare.

Pappas hot on the trail

great installment! love the film noir take. cassie you are a gem!

ilene you rock ! you should

ilene you rock ! you should act like that more often!

i hate dick cipline

the only possible successful spinoff is the continuation

of the TIBETTE story line.
there are many many stories left for this couple....Actually I say the Hell with the spinoff and go for another season why end now....
Tina and Bette are the main characters.....don't end them now !!
LONG LIVE TIBETTE: That is my STORY and I am sticking to it !!
