Maddow Kicks Frum's Butt

Former speech writer to W, David Frum, baits Rachel Maddow on her show last night. I don't think he was expecting such an ass whopping.

Thanks for posting these

Thanks for posting these Maddow clips for those of us who can't catch her on tv! She's my new american hero!

The interview the day after...

I watched Keith Olbermann after Rachels show last night. After truly enjoying his "Special Comment" to McCain, Keith pointed out that Frum yesterday said he was 'misled' on why he was coming on Rachels show. Of course Keith was armed and repeated the topics that were reviewed with Frum that morning of the interview. No topics included Afghanistan as Frum was trying to spin he was 'bushwhacked' by Rachels show.

C'mon Frum - just face it. You were publically humiliated by a woman and then lost a punch on your Man Card with Keiths comment. Next time, discuss the issues as you normally would with a Rhodes Scholar. She can hold her own.

Peace, Life and Love Awaits.

My email to Rachel yesterday

Thank you so much for your show. It tickles me no end, but more importantly, it informs me in ways I wouldn't normally be informed.
Your guest tonight ( A Bush speechwriter, I think...sorry I don't remember his name) accused you of adding to the inflammatory political rhetoric typical of the McCain campaign with your style of sarcasm. Wow. And then, even more insultingly, he claimed that you trivialized important issues like stepping up the nuclear arms race, or new bold attacks by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Here's the thing. Before you brought these things up, I had not heard about them, and I spend the better part of my day listeneing to news and talk radio and mainstream network news.
Your show, I don't miss, BECAUSE I LOVE YOUR WIT, SARCASM, AND SENSE OF HUMOR. So, because I don't miss your show, not only do I get my kicks, but I learn about important items for the first time, which I will now keep my eye on.
So we can take a deep, cleansing breath, and get back to your excellent braodcast. You handled it very well, by the way. and I actually thought his criticism was constructive.
But my point is, we are getting 2 for 1 with the Rachel Maddow show, entertainment which draws us in, AND informs us.
gratefully

nice you noticed too

after last nights show I went over to an afterellen.com article about Maddow to say how great a job she did, because I didn't know where else to go....

So, I'm glad someone else took notice of the show and posted it here.

I thought Frum made a really nasty attack on her entire approach to the news, and in a sense to those who watch her show. I felt personally offended by his assumption that Maddow and therefore those watching her reporting style are less serious than he is about politics. I also found his attempt to squelch her to be a serious cry for his own job as spin doctor... he's out spun by her, and there's not much he can do because she's armed with a super sharp mind and the news footage that he couldn't find if he wanted to!

I think she did a fantastic job of showing him just how intelligent and SERIOUS she and her viewers really are!!!!!

Even better than kicking butt...

She listened to him, and respectfully. She does that well. I love the way she keeps her cool (at least to outside observation), really listens to what's being said and finds a way to point out inherent stupidity (or incoherent logic). No wonder no one in the McCain campaign wants to debate with her.
Lezbeth

exactly

When I saw this the other day I really wanted to throttle this guy and his smartass attitude. He has real nerve trying to compare the antics of the two campaigns in the same breath. Rachel handled him like the psych ward patient he is. I still want him dead, but the high road worked like a charm.

Maddow 2012!

"more more more..how do you like it?"

An amazing woman..........

I loved every minute of it. She is smart, funny and best of......one of the sista's....and I agee... she did kick butt on her terms without falling for the bait that Frum threw at her. I commend her on her ability to debate in such a commanding way. Thanks Grace!

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proudly proclaiming, 'Wow! What a ride!!! Next!!!!!

I Could Listen To Her For Hours.......

Thank you Grace. Rachel is so incredibly intelligent and well spoken. I am always impressed with how she maintains her sense of self... in a business that, so often, eats their own. Regardless of the subject matter, she is always prepared and eloquent.

Well worth watching...

I have nothing but respect for Rachel Maddow. However, I respectfully disagree with the heading of this blog post. Rachel didn't 'kick his butt', but engaged in the type of debate that we don't see any more. I saw what point he was trying to make with her and she intelligently defended her position. Debate or dissent doesn't have to be a case of one person 'kicking the other's butt', that's what they do on FOX. Frum, even though I disagree with his politics, is a fiercely intelligent man, who met a worthy opponenent in Ms. Maddow. It was wonderful to watch.

author

i agree

that frum is intellegent. but lest we forget, this is a doctor of spin. He wrote everything that issued from the mouth of G W B, that lead us to war and then some.

Frum's accusation of Maddow's show is like the pot calling the kettle black. Just because he is behind the scenes doesn't let him off the hook. He needed a spanking for trying to spin what is political satire with negative campaigning -- there is a big difference.

And that was the point Maddow was making and she made it well. Sorry I stand by a deserved ass punt.

Right

And he helped sell a war he would NEVER have fought in himself. Meanwhile Iraqi and American bodies are maimed daily based on his lies. I find these chicken hawks repellent. Suit him up and send him to Basra so he can see first hand the end result of his "profession".

"more more more..how do you like it?"

yes.

And she called out the use of pseudo-equivalencies that has ruined cable news and is currently ruining politics. Anyone can place two things together and call them equally important, and unfortunately it's getting the best of most of America.

Rhetoric...

Rachel Maddow

is great! When I watched her show last night, I was hoping that this segment would be put on OurChart. Thanks Grace for the heads up. Rachel handled it with style, courage, fairness, and grace. She did this without yelling or screaming which I find very grownup, confident, and refreshing from the likes of others. Example- the FOX news pundits. I think some repubs are upset and pouting because they don't know how to react to and what to do with a smart Democratic candidate and wife and a person like Rachel Maddow. They turn into infantile people and act as such. Example- the McCain/Palin rallies.

I too would LOVE to see Rachel and Karl Rove go at it in a debate. That would be great!!

Wow. That guy, what a

Wow.

That guy, what a sweetheart.

Let's kill him.

I don't think there's any difference in those two statements. Same message really.

Rachel handled that beautifully :)

McCain campaign steps on its dick - Part II

Attention John McCain - the Keystone Cops called. They want their funny hats back.

Could these guys be any more inept? Or should that be "any less ept"?

Sen. McCain's dialed back

Sen. McCain's dialed back the "attack strategy" because it backfired horribly - plain and simple.

Maddow kicked his ass.

excellant...

pretty doubtful Wolfowitz will come on, but that would be awesome.
my dream smackdown would be Maddow interviewing Karl Rove -
I would so buy tickets to that...
Thanks for posting this, Grace;looking forward to your post-debate analysis on Thursday.

Uh...

Er, well... whatever that dude had in mind... it didn't happen, did it? Nah, it really didn't.
His bait was, uh... like, not taken.

Thank you Grace

I have another proof here that your country knows better about freedom than mine despite the fact that it's a young country.
We don't have journalists talking like this and saying "I think" so many times in a dialog in France.

It's really important to

It's really important to remember that Rachel Maddow isn't a journalist. She is a political analyst - a pundit - commentator who is paid both to think and to express her opinion. She is wonderful at her job and stood tall with Frum.

OK for "political analyst"

In France ours are paid to do AS IF they were giving their opinion.

well done!

The good doctor strikes again! I love how utterly composed she was through that entire exchange.

I'm sure that was not the interview she intended to conduct, but it was brilliant nonetheless. Just another demonstration of her wicked debate skills.

I'm so glad she is on the big tv machine as well as the radio.

The Right has such a boner for ...

...the Founding Fathers. They think the Constitution must be treated as scripture - not interpreted but cryonically frozen in all its 18th century anachronisms.

And yet ... they always forget that the Founding Fathers were funny, they were satirists, they were insurgents, they were Leftists, they were Change agents, they dressed up as Native Americans and dumped tea in the Boston Harbor. They wanted the Revolution to continue in perpetuity and they would be so proud of Ms. Maddow!

Love. Her.

Dear Mr. Frum;

It's The Rachel Maddow Show, not The Just Another Boring White Guy Who Makes My Eyes Glaze Over Show.
__________________________________
I moved the rest of this over from the Rachel Maddow on Leno blog:

Frum thought she was going to let him get away with equating her show with the nutjobs in the McPain rallies who shout out "terrorist" & "kill him"? Really?

He thought he could catch her off guard and instead she nailed him on using the right-wing's favorite tactic of false equivalences. (I think this will be the McPain whine for the rest of the week - "but the left is doing it, too.")

What part of it's called The Rachel Maddow Show do people not get? It's her show and she gets to decide how it works. She's doubled viewership for that time slot because of the way she does her show. It's the snark and smartness that people love. I've been listening to her on the radio show since Air America debuted. This is what MSNBC hired her to do.

Anyone who doesn't like what she is doing with her show should:

1. Go watch something else.
2. Become smart, funny, and (according to some of my favorite femmes) hot and get your own damn show.
3. [Insert snarky TiBette vs IC reference here]

Nicely done Dr. Maddow.

Hah!

We were all over Mr. Grumpyface already on another blog, Grace. Good morning to you, by the way.

Hey, I was able to see Michelle Obama yesterday in Saint Paul. We need to post more about her rather than Palin. She's smart and cool.

author

Minnie

I so agree about Michelle,

she has been completely overshadowed in the media by Cindy and Sarah. but then again that might be a good thing.

this is crazy

he's delusional -- just like Palin saying that she's thankful to be acquitted of all ethics violations. wtf. really.

author

i can't

i won't, don't make me monitor any more palin antics... lets just say their ship is sinking.

sorry

:(

about Palin

You could almost see her go "whhhheeeew, that was close"...

But Rachel, I admire your composer...and your ability to listen and for taking his advice and not succumbing to the bite.
