John McCain's brother exchanged sharp words with a police operator after calling 911 to complain about traffic.

His call, and a call back to reprimand him for an inappropriate use of the service, were recorded by City of Alexandria Police.

Here's the exchange:

Operator: 911 state your emergency

Caller: It's not an emergency but do you know why on one side at the damn drawbridge of 95traffic is stopped for 15 minutes and yet traffic's coming the other way?

Operator: Sir, are you calling 911 to complain about traffic? (pause)

Caller: "(Expletive) you." (caller hangs up)

The operator then called back, and received this message: "Hi this is Joe McCain I can't take this message now because I'm involved in a very ... important political project... I hope on Nov. 4th we have elected John."

McCain then apparently called 911 again, to complain about the message.

Did he not know they could see his telephone number? Are the McCain boys truly this clueless about technology?

I love how the biggest "selling points" of the McCain campaign are based on things that are utterly untrue.

I'm pretty sure Barack Obama has corrected John McCain like 120839473287 times about his tax plan. It's pretty simple, he says. If you make less than 250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes go up.

It never ceases to amaze me how people will vote against their own best interest either for the sake of fruitless ideology or because they are just too ignorant to know better.

Dear Grace, Diana and Kelly

Since we are now down to the final two weeks, would it be possible to make an open thread for an election countdown? You could encourage people to vote early and then post when they do; you could encourage people to talk about what's going on on the ground in their home states; you could encourage people to volunteer to Get Out The Vote and then post about their actions; you could connect people working against the California, Arizona and Florida anti-marriage equality amendments. But mostly, you could encourage the usually-reticent to speak up and join the party -- literally and figuratively.

It seems like an open thread with a countdown element would encourage more diversified participation and bottom-up activism which I think everyone would like to see. I think your combined voices would be incredibly powerful, especially since the sector of the left that historically has been least likely to vote is "single" young women.
