Ok, so here's the deal. We raised a lot of money for Luh's birthday on May 23rd but we will like to give a final push for this year to bring that amount to $20,000 due to the deadline being until January 1st, 2009. We are currently sitting at $18,515. Please donate any money you can give to DWB; every bit counts.
1. Donation Idea- Donate money to Laurel's chosen charity Doctors Without Borders as a birthday gift to her. This donation page is an ongoing process so fans can donate when they can. Firstgiving is a donation site that has been going on for years so it is safe.

SPREAD THE WORD TO ALL MESSAGE BOARDS YOU ATTEND PLEASE.
A suggestion to make things easier you can put the link of the charity in your signature so it will be there everytime you post. Or even better if it is a MB that is run by a fan, have the fan post the link on top of the MB and leave it there for all to see

I think we all did and thanks to all who voted in this to ensure DWB received some of those funds.
That's a significant amount of money TripAdvisor.com will be donating. Laurel will be thrilled about this.
Has someone brought this over to Laurel's Official Site? Angela says that Lu visits her board and she's sure to see this over there.
I'll post this over there if it's not been posted already.
Thanks, Sherri for updating us with this great news.
OT: P.S. I hope you had a good and safe trip to the UK. I'm looking forward to whatever you will share with us. Have a great weekend.

Fall- From the Q&A in Paris
- Laurel, how and why did you decide to support and "promote" Doctors without borders ?
Laurel's answer here was very long. She told all the story, so I obviously don't remember everything, but basically what I do remind is that she said it all started with the people who created her site LaurelHollomanonline.com and Rachel Shelley' site ( it's the same people ) and she chose "Doctors without borders" first because it's a big international organization, so she knew they were "serious" people, but also because it's one of the few organizations that doesn't have any political label and that's very important for her.
And then she explained that on her birthday they decided to raise money on her site and the fans raised $ 20 000 and that was perfect because Doctors without Borders were working on so many projects in Africa back then and then she somehow ( don't ask me how coz I really don't remember ) she linked that to the adoption of her baby girl which "happened" pretty much at the same time. Anyway, it was a beautiful story.
She added that the link to make donations to doctors without borders was still open on her site and she said that there was also a link to Mia Kirschner's charity "I live here" and she talked a little bit about Mia's book that Mia's currently promoting all over the world.
Thank you so much Sherri!
Can we plan a full fire attack on the OC editor to get some help with this cause...please!

Lets get fired up!!
Thanks Sherri
For bringing this over here. I hope someone recorded that at the convention. I would love to listen to Laurel speak about DWB and the donations and how that linked to her adoption of her baby daughter.
And, then talking about Mia and her book and about Mia's charity.
I wonder if the people who ran that convention will have a DVD available of the convention. Secretgirl started a thread for the convention. I'll ask that question of her.
Mama Tina to Mama Bette:"I'm not going to let your over-achieving, psycho dysfunction, stress out our kid before she's three years old!"
It was nice to read what Laurel
said in Pairs about Doctors without Borders. While I can't make another donation right now, I will as soon as I can. I was glad to know more about Laurel's support.
Hey Tulip...good to see you!
Where can I read about this?

Hi
Give each year... I think this info. would be good to post on the new thread called, "The L Word Actresses Live On," or something like that. List events, interviews, charity stuff, etc. I think all the actors deserve recognition.
There's a new thread?
NLa, where is this thread of which you speak? :) I get lost easily...
New thread
Go to the "Characters" section - where we are right now...and scroll down...last time I looked it was about third from the bottom... it just started 2 plus days ago and hasn't had any action, but seems like a good place to put this sort of stuff.
"I get lost easily..." I don't know about this...I've been told that you know your way around.........
Joke, it's a joke! :)
ROFL

Thank you NLa. As you know I tend to overcomplicate straightforward things ... LMAO.
From Tips Advisor
DWB is still holding its own at 38%, I was trying to figure out how they were going to do the 1,000,000.00 and from what I understand the percentage is what each charity is going to get. Can anyone tell me if this is indeed true. I mean if thats the case 380,000.00 isn't to bad
Hi ALL!
Sherriberri...can you update things on the thread on shotime?
Sherriberri, you have it right
the 5 organizations will divide the $1 million according to the percentage of votes they get. 38% of $1 million is great. :)
Keep it moving!

Hey Fundraisers...if you can... bump over on showtime boards!! Sherriberri posted DWB Laurel Holloman over there!
BURIED
I'm curious why this pitch for fundraising is pretty much buried and hard to find unless you know where to look for it. Glancing through different sites and forums there is so much about Jennifer's fundraising (the Triathalon & the T-Shirt) yet virtually nothing about this worthy cause. Why is that?
I read your posts about trying to raise the profile of DWB/Laurel's charity and your attempts to get it promoted better but why is there so little happening when there is so obviously interest and support?
I appreciate despite enthusiasm and wanting something you can't always get what you want but why isn't there more equality in promoting worthy causes regardless of the celebrity supporting it?
My questions are not intended to enrage those of you who are doing your best to achieve more promotion, I'm just curious.
Good luck and best wishes
K
A rolling stone gathers no moss, but you don't 'arf get dizzy!
Swatsup some thoughts...
When we worked on this for Laurels Birthday it was fairly unique to the OC crowd.
We had many individuals on all the Lword related sites involved in promoting.
I think its lost its "newness" and therefore there is little interest.
This is completely a fan initiative. In light of Jenffifer Beals actually assisting in the fundraising and promoting her charity fundraising it has attracted a wider fan surge and interest on her project.
Laurel is not involved and OC ignores Laurel related fan requests.
Can't help but think that the JB business interest in this site hasn't encouraged her latest triatholon fundraising idea. My guess is that we did bring a new fan base to the OC when we did this fundraising event for Laurel's Birthday in the spring...must have had many more hits on this site during that event. And it would make sense that the idea would have a ripple effect since it is positive in nature.
Lastly to keep the interest level alive takes much time and promoting...I think it is hard to give this the push needed to cause another explosion without help from OurChart.
Seems like past fundraisier helpers on this thread including myself are busy too!
Lastly there is just so many times in a year you can ask people to donate.
If we can organize here and get some good ideas and perhaps some help from the OC we might make an impact. Plus it would be good if Brazil could get the money over here that they promised...that may cause another surge in interest and give us some exciting information to send to other sites and even give us something to put in a press release to get public interest.
I'm just sayin.
Thanks for that
Thanks for that...I know how hard it can be hitting your head against a brick wall when you are trying to do something worthwhile. I've been involved in charity work and publicity a long time so I know how hard it is to be heard and to maintain interest especially when it comes to raising money for worthwhile causes.
I don't have the means to be able to help you much when it comes to websites, but I have time and some skills that you might be able to make use of...I don't know what you need help with but if I can help please ask me.
As to the Laurel fan requests being ignored...that pretty much sucks but I don't suppose there is much you can do about it other than to keep trying..good luck with that.
I don't know if this would help with promotion, but I will be going to L5 in November and if whoever wins my pictures is likely to be there maybe you could make a publicity thing out of presenting the original pictures to the winners. I have no control or influence over the event so I can't make promises or make the thing happen even, but it's a suggestion...particularly as Laurel will be there...maybe she would be willing to present the pictures to the winners. Of course that depends on the winners being there...otherwise they will be posted on.
Best wishes
K
A rolling stone gathers no moss, but you don't 'arf get dizzy!
Thanks so much for the picture donations Swatsup
All your help is much appreciated. And wouldn't it be amazing if the winners were going to L5 and we could get Laurel to present them and/or sign them in person for the winner?! I think that would definitely make the donations go up! :)
************************
Om Santih Santih Santih!
************************
It certainly would
I like to think so but I have no clout to be able to arrange that. I could..see about getting them signed myself but that would mean I loose the chance of getting my one personal item signed if I have to go through the normal channels... I will see what I can do though....it depends on how quickly the winners want their pictures...I'm not promising...I will see what I can do.
A rolling stone gathers no moss, but you don't 'arf get dizzy!
Just an idea ...
what about asking one of the folks going to Paris? I don't know what rules the Paris convention organizers have in place for the autograph sessions ... maybe if the fans explain to the organizers, and Laurel, the art work donation for the DWB fundraising, an exception could be made ... ? I know time is really short by now, but just in case ... another possible option.
Scratchboards
Hi folks
Just to update you...I couldn't get the scratchboard pictures I donated signed at the L5 convention but Laurel did get to see them when I told her about the draw and she was delighted. You already know about her thank you at the closing ceremony so I won't repeat that.
The draw has taken place and I am just waiting for Angela to get back to me about the details of the two lucky winners so I can pass the pics on.
Thanks again for your donations to this cause.
Best wishes

I went ahead
and opened up a new topic on the shotime message board with all of the information, and suggested maybe voting on Tripadvisor.com.
Also it doesn't appear that OC is going to do anything about mentioning the project like they did with the traveling shirt, maybe send a email to Lisa and remind her that she did say that OC would do something.
You know
maybe this is wrong but I hate how it appears that she's treated or more of how I perceive how she's treated through the years. IT'S NOT COOL! They really need to post this because it's phenomenal what's been accomplished here and the fact that there wasn't any exposure (via front page) of OC says enough. I like Jennifer as well but give me a break, she's not the ENTIRE! I don't think that Laurel put out anything on OC asking for donations or support. We as her fans just wanted to show her that we appreciate the work that she's done!
I second that...come on Ilene help us out here!

Saw your post on Sho...so lets try to keep it on the first page over there...ok folks!
When did Lisa say that she would help?
FabLu posted
in the Laurel thread that she PM'd Lisa last month and they said that they were going to do something. Instead they posted the Traveling Shirt project, and still nothing on the DWB project.
Here is what Lisa had to say about the Laurel Project:
Hi fablu
Thanks for writing. I've received a couple of notes about this incredible effort on behalf of Laurel, and we absolutely want to share the story here on the site.
We do realize that there are a number of other fan initiatives out there that deserve some time in the spotlight as well, and will figure out the best way to feature them in the coming weeks.
Best,
Lisa
OC Editor
Great to hear...
Thanks for reposting this!

What is it about Laurel Fans?
Welcome SWATSUP...and many thanks for your generous offer. You are extremely talented and it is nice to meet you here on one of the kindest threads on the OC. And in the fundraising tradition...you get...a tune
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdG618TMc5E&feature=related
So fellow fundraisers...lets get this this effort going!
I think we will need to reach out to the other sites again to promote the new PUSH to raise funds for Doctors Without Borders.
Was thinking we could encourage others to make special donations for the holidays in honor of Laurel's Birthday Year and/or making a special donation as a birthday/holiday gift for a loved one. For those interested in making it for a loved one which could include family, friend, or lover...they can leave a special note when they deposit this gift at firstgiving on laurelholloman.com
So the time is right for passing the word to the other sites. What connections does everyone have to other sites?
Can you get the word out that we are moving forward again with the hopes of getting some support for this?
Can someone start a link to the OC on Sho with a mention of what is going on? And who is connected to tibette.com? Another press release to Lydia? Lastly I am hoping AngelaK can mention it on the first page of laurelholloman.com once a few donations are made...meanwhile I am working on a letter to send to Vancouver...
I'm just sayin.
Donated Pics
Just so you know...these pictures are totally unique in that no matter how much I try I can never reproduce an image in exactly the same way twice. The chimpanzee picture was created to mark Laurel's birthday with the sole intention of raising as much money as possible for this worthy cause and because I believe Laurel likes monkeys.
I chose to donate the two animal pictures I felt were most appropriate. My reasons for doing this are because I spent some of my childhood in Africa where I saw first hand how the Africans lived and struggled to survive in what was then a politically stable and prosperous country. My experience had a huge influence on my life choices but I was not able to do what I wanted (I won't go into details). Suffice to say that I have wanted to do so much more to make a difference in Africa than I am capable of. This is my way of making that difference in the only way I can....PLEASE HELP ME TO RAISE MORE FUNDS FOR THIS WORTHY CAUSE.
I know demands are made on us all the time to donate, but next time you bite into your burger, pizza, whatever you eat, think about how many people die of hunger in the time it takes you to eat. Next time you complain of stress or a cold think how many people die of preventable and curable disease, how many people die from lack of clean water, medical supplies and professional help. PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY.
A rolling stone gathers no moss, but you don't 'arf get dizzy!
Glad to meet the person
Glad to meet the person behind the drawings. Your drawings look great
