Tonight’s episode featured a stellar (play)list of music from bands like
New Young Pony Club,
Client, and the
Jackson 5! But I’d like to give a special shout out to one band in particular,
The Start.
I think this story will go a lot smoother if we all pretend we’re at a slumber party together, in our jammies (mind outta the gutter). So, my affair with the band began back in December. My friend Tina had introduced me to her friend Joy. Now as it turns out, Joy manages a band I’m quite familiar with,
Girl in a Coma. Because I trust her musical tastes, when she recommended another one of her bands,
The Start, I had to, well, Listen Up!
Now even though I wasn’t familiar with the band itself, I had already been exposed to lead singer Aimee Echo, and it’s likely that you have as well. She sang with Sweden’s own
Teddybears at last year’s Coachella and again on
The Jimmy Kimmel Show no more than a few months ago.
Though she delivered killer performances with those snuggly bears, it’s when she’s with The Start that the world makes sense again! As some of you may know, they played
The L Word season prremiere party earlier this year. The set was only two songs long, but it was enough time for everyone in attendance to whip out their camera phones, they’re
that kinda band. That show was my first time seeing them live and, of course, left me wanting more. So later that week, I caught them playing to a nearly sold-out crowd at the Troubadour. I kid you not, I have at least a dozen cell phone pics from that night. As guitarist Jamie said in a recent interview with OurChart, "We’re a rock band disguised as an electronic dance band." And they do rock, friends, trust me. Their newest member, Chelsea, reminds me of my childhood hero, Animal, from
Fraggle Rock. On top of being a great live act, they’re quite possible the nicest and most polite band in Los Angeles. Let’s just say they not only melt faces, they melt hearts as well. Jeez, I need to write for Hallmark!
Definitely check out tonight’s track, "Ciao Baby," and if you’re into it, download some of my favorites: "Surrender" and "Just a Fantasy"
Stay tuned for The Start’s OurChart interview!

SARCASM IS A REFUGE OF A SHALLOW MIND!
You're right a band to look out for. I like them.

I definitely want to hear more of Leisha's band, Gush!
*LOVE*
New Young Pony Club!
I was super happy to watch shane jam and make pot brownies to new young pony club...and to one of my favorite songs no less!! i helped promote them when they first came out!!
The start
Crackin' band! :D
great to hear...
I was glad to hear New Young Pony club and Client on the recent shows. Seems like that's where the style of music for the show has been heading lately and I was stoked to finally hear them. As for The Start, thanks for introducing me! :)
Girl in a Coma
Thanx for mentioning Girl in a Coma! I await for a song of theirs to be featured on The L Word! Hopefully someday, no? I'm obsessed with the girls...but, lets face it...their music is.... well find out for yourselves....

asobi seksu
= colloquial japanese for "playful sex"
love their song Goodbye that plays while Jenny and Nikki are having sex [plus the pool scene and other festivities...but let's focus on the closet sex, mm?]
i pretty much adore Jenny this season. Mia Kirshner is amazing. "don't listen to her. she wears mom jeans with a camel toe." uh, classic? as though that's perfectly sensible logic that everyone should be able to deduce, no doubt.

Soundtrack...
I've never really been into the past soundtracks, but I can't wait for this season's to come out. It's even better when you give us an update on who played...You're the best! And I COMPLETELY agree, you need to work for Hallmark!
Ciao, Baby
The Start got some good air time; they played Ciao, Baby and Surrender. I kept hearing about The Start for some time and I was lucky enough to catch them at The L Word Premiere Party.
The Start - Ciao, Baby
After that night, I became an instant fan. Their latest album, Ciao, Baby, has a song called Master Plan and Aimee’s voice reminds me of Sarah Cracknell from Saint Etienne. I saw them in Vegas at the Beauty Bar a couple of weeks ago and they were so amazing!!
The Start - Runaway
Another amazing band that played the Beauty Bar was The Day After “Another Female Fronted Band” and the singer has such a sexy voice! A lot of male singers try to strive for that voice but it comes natural to her. Jenine is a sweetie =).
The Day After - Anything, Anything
UltraViolet also performed and they were so much fun! I rank UV in the same category as New Young Pony Club. They have a new album coming out, with such a clever name: OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Dancing).
UltraViolet Gets Crunked
It's all about The day
It's all about The day after... and theSTART, my friends. Also, The day after... is playing with Girl In A Coma this Saturday at the Beauty Bar in Las Vegas. Wow...full circle, eh?
