Jennifer and Ilene Hit The Red Carpet

Glamour, Glitz and Gay Rights: A Night at the GLAAD Media Awards.

Jennifer Beals, Laurel Holloman and Ilene Chaiken, longtime supporters of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, looked fabulous for the organization's 19th Annual Media Awards this past Saturday night. OurChart.com caught up with Jennifer and Ilene on the red carpet outside the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood before joining Laurel inside for the festivities. We also spoke with Rufus Wainwright and Janet Jackson—the evening's big honorees. Here's a peek at all the buzz as people were making their grand entrance to the show.

Keep up the good work Ilene.....

Ilene has been so awesome writing such great story lines for the L Word. The cast could not be better. How did Ilene know Jennifer and Laurel would ignite the screen the way they have??? I never seen two people on screen that work so well together and have so much chemistry. I really hope Ilene finds away to keep the L Word on. Maybe Showtime or another network will realize what an amazing body of work the L Word is and keep it on the air for all us L Word Crazed fans. I love the creativity and the reality of these story lines. I want to see Tina and Bette's relationship grow. I want to see Shane grow up and stop being a player. I want to continue seeing the funny side of Alice that I love. I would like to see ALice get with Helena....I want to see Helena back on top but keep the nice side of her. I want to see Jenny some big gig. I want to see Ilene continue writing these incredible story lines that make us laugh and cry. This is not a show that's ready to end, but a show with story lines that are waiting to fill our heart with joy.

Oh dear Tybalter, there is much out there to provide assistance, should you need assistance in these efforts! Wouldst thou really forsake the friendship of one who really loves Mercutio, and also really wishes that Bill would write much Bette-r storylines for Mercutio, since some of the fair gentlewomen of Verona and one or two other places just don't feel Tybalt, but that does not make them bad people! Nay, my lady! I do greatly endanger this life by speaking so against Lord Tybalt, and I wish no harm to come to this mortal body, but with my dying breath I shall proclaim love for Mercutio and for this play that spawned her..im.

The Apothecary

Yo Apothecary

Of course there is room for some Mercutio love. I'm a reasonable person. Unlike some people who would quarrel with a man for cracking nuts, having no other reason but because thou hast hazel eyes.

I pray thee, good Mercutio, let's retire:

And, if we meet, we shall not scape a brawl;
For now, these hot days, is the mad blood stirring.

Oh my

I just read this all these comments and..

I think everyone needs some to enjoy some delicious ice cream!!!!

I could go for some rocky

I could go for some rocky road ice cream and then a nap curled up with one or both of my cats.

I'm a huge fan of...

I'm a huge fan of Ilene!
I admit Jennifer and Laurel are awesome, but I love Ilene. She is hot. I wish I had a romantic date with her in Sedona or somewhere...

Admittedly she did look

Admittedly she did look pretty nice. She usually cleans up real good for events like this. That's not to say she looks like crap on a normal day. lol It's just sort of like that cute girl you remember from childhood and you see her again after several years and she's just become totally gorgeous.

Falling under the spell of

Ilene. Yes, SHE is amazing!
I love both girly and sexy sides of Ilene though. I totally get hooked on Ilenism, do I?

"I am not speaking about

"I am not speaking about Laurel, but about Tina."

But on this thread, we are speaking about Laurel, not about Tina.

So who exactly were you thinking of when you agreed with the Tybalt remark?"

I didn't say I agreed with anything. There was a humorous comment made from Rsti about Tybalt being left out of the play title, so I made a humorous comment about that poster being a "tybalter", see, not a tibetter but a "tybalter"...and I thought this thread was about the GLAAD awards. I came here to read about that, and Jennifer.

Yes

let's be clear. I don't like Tina. I am not speaking about Laurel, but about Tina. I never have. I feel that it is not necessary to like her to be a fan of the show and a huge fan of Bette/Jennifer. I have been ostracized on other boards, for that very reason, because I don't like Tina. Some people consider that a crime, and now apparently find it amusing to come and hassle me here, because I don't like Tina.

I don't care how you feel about Tina

Ah so you are a Tybalter, eh rsti? LOL

Oh Susannah

You caught me. I am in fact a "Tybalter." I am dedicated to reading between, under, and around the lines to find any real or imagined slight to my favorite character of all time.

I vow to turn every blog into a tirade about how abused my favorite character was by his creator. I will post, post, and post about the topic of Tybalt until people get so sick of reading my Tybalter comments that they start skipping ALL of my comments. I will argue any point no matter how silly on behalf of my favorite character.

Prince Escalus

No one ever gives Prince Escalus his due. He's the one who wanted a truce and to end the feud.

**Comment brought to you by the Peace Society to Promote Prince Escalus.**

I am so sick of hearing about Prince Escalus

Shakespeare shoved Prince Escalus down our throats. He didn't care what the fans wanted. I have nothing against Prince Escalus as a character, per se. He just has NO business in Romeo and Juliet. It's a bad fit.

I'm Just Curious, Do You Realize What You Are Laughing At?

Susannah is a Tina hater and she's agreeing with that Tybalt remark.

Lamentamini is a Tina/Laurel fan as am I. And, her comment to Susannah is true.

Just making sure we are all clear on why Lamentamini said what she did.

Julia was laughing at the Tybalt remark

However, I am laughing at you.

I confess myself not too

I confess myself not too terribly concerned about Susannah's (or anyone else's) fandom leanings. Her joke was funny. As was Rusty's.

On the other hand... Good-natured ribbing and joking around is one thing, but bullying other OC members for disagreeing about or disliking a character you dig? I'll thank you to leave me out of that.

Julia thank you so much for sticking up for Tybalt

People who read Shakespeare have no idea how picked on Tybalt has been. The reality is that he is the only one who really cared about making Romeo and Juliet work.

Thanks again for supporting Tybalt

I had a hard time with

I had a hard time with Shakespeare, back in the day. I never got it. But it was somewhat better when we did some reading of it in American Lit II 151 in College, a few years ago. I still have my book.

But I have to say thank you for clearing up who Tybalt is. For the life of me I can't retain Shakespeare at all, and was searching through this thread looking for Tybalt's comments.

I'm just going walk away right now...

Julia

All I asked was if you realized what you were laughing about given your previous comments in this thread. Thank you for clarifying.

I agree no one should bully anyone into liking any character on this or any other show. That's not only not productive but ridiculous. And, frankly those who do behave in that fashion are mostly likely trolls trying to turn others from the character or actress as the case may be. It's a trick as old as the old country.

Also, Susannah wasn't bullied.

Also, I'm happy to hear that you don't like bullies. And, there are quite a few of them who are regular posters on OC for you to have a field day. It's one reason I am not a regular poster around here. I've not seen such nastiness on any other board as I've seen over here.

I'm a member of other boards and I can tell you it's one reason many people do not post over here.

And, that has nothing to do with being a particular fan of one actress or character or not. It's the perception and reality that a lot of people have about this place regardless.

And, I'll leave it there.

editor

At the risk of dead horses and the flogging of them...

I thought that Lamentamini got rather personal and mean with Susannah, which in my book constitutes bullying. And it seemed to me that in pointing out the "truth" of Lamentamini's statements and questioning my response to Susannah, you were tacitly approving that bullying. You referring to her as a "Tina hater" also registered with me as name-calling. So from my point of view, yeah, it looked like you were jumping on the bullying bandwagon. That is where I was coming from. If I was mistaken, I apologize. It may be that we're just not gonna see eye to eye on any of this, and that's okay.

I think it's wonderful that Laurel has such a loyal and appreciative fan base. But I've read this entire thread through, and I still don't understand why offense was taken to Gigi's post in the first place. Or why so many people found it perfectly acceptable to assume the worst of and insult Gigi. Or why if someone doesn't like a character or a storyline or an opinion, it's okay to get personal and mean and "ostracize" them.

To quote Paige from

To quote Paige from Degrassi: TNG, "I'm not mean. I'm right." Su hasn't been driven from various forums just for hating Tina. Su didn't have to respond to me (actually she didn't because she fails at using the reply feature). She could've let it all die a quiet death. I've seen some really nasty posts around here as well as some major jackasses hence why I, like fablu, rarely post.

Anyway, those who insulted Gigi...yeah that was a bit much. But I don't think it was too much to ask for an amendment to the opening paragraph (thanks by the way, Gigi. :))

Oi, I should've just quoted Helena from S2: "Never apologize, never explain."

I'm also curious

Does the title "Editor" come with an implied responsibility to be impartial or not? Hope one of the OC staff can clarify.

I'm happy to clarify for my

I'm happy to clarify for my part, Cloverleaf. I'm a freelance, contributing blogger here but I'm not on the editorial staff. I do however wield the almighty and fiersome power of being able to fix broken links and add commas as needed in my own blogs. Hence the "editor" status shown on my comments. It's just a techie technicality given how the site functionality is structured.

Repeat

I'll repeat my question for the OC staff member who can clarify: Does the title "editor" imply a responsibility to be impartial or not? Yes or no?

She answered the question

The answer was "NO." She's allowed to have her own opinion. Her opinion is that Tybalt ROCKS-hard.

Clover, I think so. I think it would be a disservice to this website if any of the editors were partial to any members or their ideas. I think their responsibilty would to try to maintain as impartiality between different members, and their ideas, as possible.
