On Tour with Erin McKeown

Cynthia described her best when she said Erin McKeown “is a little bit country, a little rock and roll, a combo of swing and folk, and a whole lot of voice.”

Today we are unveiling one of OurChart’s new multimedia features. This is an audio slideshow by photographer Desdemona "Bunty" Burgin who traveled the entire US for ten weeks last fall with Erin McKeown, documenting her life on and off the stage.

Erin was touring in support of her latest release Lafayette. Lafayette is a live album recorded at Joe's Pub in NYC with a five-piece band, including drummer Allison Miller, who joined Erin for part of the tour.

The slideshow features Erin's track "To The Stars" which, as you read in Cynthia's post, also played in Episode 510 of The L Word. This version of the song comes from Erin’s latest CD release. With great generosity in support of the OurChart re-launch, Erin's giving all of you a free download of the song.

Thanks so much to Erin McKeown, Emily Lichter of Public Emily, Bunty Burgin and Gigi Nicolas for creating the slideshow.  — Grace Moon

wow I really am astounded to

wow I really am astounded to hear people ripping it out of Erin. Her live music is really something brilliant, moving, inpsiring - I've seen her perform a load of times in Europe and the US and find it hard to believe that seemingly educated people take it upon themselves to pick her fine self to pieces!!!!have you even seen her live?! I would urge any of you ripping this track apart to go see her and re-examine those comments...Erin ROCKS and a handful of sketchy opinions do not respresent the majority of her fans who think she is pretty damn amazing. Go McKeown!!!!

That's spam that has been

That's spam that has been plaging this site and Afterellen promoting that website highlighted. They get rid of one and another takes it's place posting all over the place.Just report it.

Erin is sincerely talented though:)

Hot rocker

Erin, if you're reading this, you're smoking hot. Love the hair, love the outfits, love the attitude! Keep on rockin' it girlfriend!

LOVE IT!

I just love seeing these shots of Erin.. Everytime I see her perform, I leave feeling so HAPPY! She's amazingly talented, sooo vibrant and fun!

And of course Desdemona's photographs are always amazing... I LOVE IT!

i <3 erin!

i really like this song. it gives off that folkish-rock vibe that i really adore erin for. i guess everyone has an opinion, but i personally like the imperfections of a live recording. NOBODY sings perfectly on key ALL THE TIME. that's just inhuman, man. the key and tone of the song is very consistent throughout. i think the rawness of her voice and the realness of the live performance gives it all character.

don't hate. especially b/c of one song...you could at least make an effort to check out the rest of her songs on her myspace or something. all of her stuff is simply great!

LOVE YOU, ERIN!!!

One lucky lady!

Desdemona is one lucky lady - I am offering right now to hold her lens, or whatever else she needs held, on her next "tour." This new audio slideshow concept is awesome - looks and sounds like Erin puts on a great gig! And folks, it's called LIVE MUSIC! Oh, here I go again, "makes my rear want a dip of snuff," "can't see the forest for the trees," "pitiful to the dogs".......From Austin, the "live music capital of the world" and SXSW weekend ....

Nothing but love

Tex

i just meant that

it seemed kind of unfair just from one song. but yeah, you're totally right. i guess it's just cuz it was the first comment, and since i'm (obviously : ) a huge fan, i got a little... overzealous. sorry 'bout that : )

Hey Kit!

Thanks! So true! xx

that's some seriously hot

that's some seriously hot art on art action.
Nice work Bunty et al.

yeah...

I think you guys are being unfair...

USA Today described her voice as "raw, amateurish" but the woman has perfomed on The Late Show with Conan O'Brian, among others, she has recorded FIVE FULL-LENGTH Albums, 2 EP's, she tours at hundreds of venues each year, lots of people find her and her work endearing (she's got critical praise for days). I think it just comes down to personal taste, no?

p.s. (I really really love Erin McKeown)

editor

you guys are kidding

you guys are kidding right?

That's exactly

what I was thinking, Grace! (Are you a mind reader?) Thanks for posting! (My thoughts : )

Love,
Pink Lady

Oh, and

If you want to Fed=Ex that piano, we'll fix it right up. :o)

Not Kidding

Her voice is about a quarter to a half-note lower than the melody would be for the key she's playing the song in...just according to my ear and opinion.

Too Bad Karen Carpenter's

editor

but can you hear the sound

but can you hear the sound of one hand clapping, grasshopper?

wax on

wax off

Yeah....

I have to agree here. Not too interesting... There are SO many amazing singer/songwriters out there waiting to be heard. Not sure why this one is being featured here. Sorry, just my opinion.

Is it Just Me?

Okay, I'll probably get slammed by Erin McKeown's fans for this, but isn't she singing flat (i.e. off-key)? Or, maybe that's an intentional thing? Does anybody else notice this?
