Picking a Personal Trainer

If you have never worked out with a trainer it may be worth giving it a try. Trainers can show you the most efficient ways to exercise, and how to have fun doing it. If you have hit a plateau or are falling into the same routine each week, switch it up with a couple of training sessions.

Hiring a trainer is a great way to really get into fitness. Trainers are there to teach you correct exercises but also to help push you to the next level of health and fitness. Picking a trainer is sometimes a little tricky if you don't know what to look for. Most trainers offer a free consultation, this is a great opportunity to ask them questions. Here are some tips on how to pick the person who you want to help you achieve your goals.

1. Find out what their qualifications are and make sure they are Certified. Ask what their background is and what specialties they have. Bodybuilding? yoga? Sport specific? See whether their specialties match your goals.

2. Are they a good communicator? This is important. Is their style of communicating right for you? Are they a tough drill Sergant? Comforting Coach? or a Chirpy Cheerleader?

3. Check out their clients. See if they have any before and after photos or client testimonials. Reading what other people have thought about them will give you an idea of what you might experience.

4. Ask them what you can expect from them. Are they going to coach your nutrition as well? Do they have a timeline in which they want to help you achieve your goal?

5. Take them for a Test Drive! Try a single session with them before committing to a package. This way you can see whether you like their training style and personality.

Finding the combination of someone who pushes you and you enjoy is sometimes hard. However, they don't need to be your new best friend just someone whose technique and communication style are going to work for you. You want to make sure they really know what they are doing and most importantly that they like what they do! This will assure you that they will work their hardest to get you to where you want to be! Training should be Informative, Challenging, Uplifting, Confidence-boosting, and most of all FUN!

I highly recommend this

Trainers, the good ones, really do keep you motivated and on target. Even if its just for running. I have been wanting to get back into running for a while and this past April I joined a running club with a real certified instructor and it has been amazing. He mixes things up, keeps things fresh and pushes while encouraging us at the same time. He also gives alternate workouts for those days when running just doesn't seem like fun or when we have a rest day from running.

The results will be on display during the 5 mile Pride Run in NYC on June 28 when our entire group will be running the race from start to finish without stopping. Beleive me this didn't seem possible 5 weeks ago when running for a minute and a half seemed like it would kill us.

I just hired a trainer

I had been working out for year and half or so. I was trying to add some muscle and improve my cardiovascular endurance. I followed a pretty well laid out weightlifting program and did pretty well with increasing my strength. But I hate doing cardio... When I started to find myself bored at the gym and spending 1 -1 1/2 hours there, I thought about getting a trainer. Plus, I have always thought about getting certified as a PT. So I thought it would be a good way to see what it all entails. There was a new trainer at the gym that worked out with the group. I got to know him just by working out beside him on occasion. He seemed really knowledgeable and fun..so i hired him. I have enjoyed it a lot. He pushes me to do more cardio than I would even do alone. I know I'm going to get good workout with him. He works with me once a week and sets me up a program for the rest of the week...so that's cool.

Pretty quickly after working out with him, I noticed that I'd finally started to make head way on that six pack...that makes it worth it.

trainers

i see these people at my gym, and they seem to be awful. a good one would probably be a great resource. the bad ones - as far as i can tell they've got the best racket going. getting paid to cheer on some out-of-shape soccer mom who never does anything, thereby remaining a client forever. trainers i see don't seem to know any more about the human body than the average person.

on the other hand, if a person really took it upon themselves to study the human body as carefully as they could, they would be a great trainer. they guy who invented parkour is possibly such a person. i feel more of these people probably exist - just not at my gym. they could be really helpful if you were seriously injured and needed to get your health together again.

another aspect is the judgemental part. i'm in shape, so the ones at my gym are mainly nice to me, which is stupid, because meanwhile, if i was in a wheelchair or really fat, their whole tune would change. i know this because i've watched them do it to others. it's a whole body image thing. i "look gay," and i noticed they sort of don't know what to do with that. the men are oddly attracted to it. no idea why that is, but it's probably beyond the scope of this comment. maybe i need to switch to some non-hetero-meatmarket-bodybuilder-roid-extravaganza gym.

but bravo to the good trainers out there. i didn't mean to sound negative - just pick a knowledgable trainer, not a meathead, that's my point. and to be fair, i never had a trainer myself, so my view is limited. i seem to be internally motivated, so a trainer might not have much affect. if she was hot, though... :D

Some gyms have personal

Some gyms have personal trainers on hand to just give tips on how to use the equipment. It's nice to be able to ask about one thing to work on instead of being overwhelmed with too many exercises.

One gym I used had a guy there that just came over and proceeded to correct how I was using the machine, which was nice, but started pushing me like I was training for some competition are something. The next day he did the same thing. I quickly learned to make sure he didn't see me come in. Geez! I wanted to go at my own pace.Looked a lot like Peeler from Workout.

Thank you Leah

I had a personal trainer once. He was so terrible that I haven't had a trainer since. I do independent training now. I read up on physical fitness. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Right now I want abs like yours.
