Summer Vacation Wear for Any Occasion

There’s a fashion week happening somewhere, nearly always, as designers introduce styles that will land in our local boutiques 9-12 months later. My favorite addition to the fashion industry machine is the grouping of apparel simply labeled, “Resort.”

These items are supposed to be what you might wear during your travels to Mykonos, Ibiza or Fire Island. They offer lighter weight wears that take you from a daytime brunch into an early evening cocktail soirée.

Below are several of my favorite designers from this category with a range of styles.

Tory Burch
Her 2008 collection mixes retro prints with hippie ease. Tunics continue to play an integral role for Burch, this time in tie-dye, boho-chic styles with embellished necklines, paired with clean white pants and short shorts — a perfect ensemble as you stroll through the halls of the Louvre taking in the haystacks and water lilies.

Though much of the collection could work for year-round jet setting, Burch used color-blocking in navy and brown for a distinct taste of the season, adding visible zippers down the center of dresses for an interesting detail. This dress is a perfect choice for a romantic dinner in a quiet bistro along the Seine.

Emilio Pucci
A mélange of colors are visible in a variety of dresses, from shifts to A-line frocks, but one thing is consistent: Pucci is all about the belts. Longer amulet necklaces dressed up the already bold collection packed full of bright pinks, oranges, and teals, with a few black accents. Loose-fitting tops and off-the-shoulder dresses mixed with long flowing dresses, giving an on-the-go chic look to the collection. A bit more flashy, Pucci announces your entrance into any room, so save these frocks for cocktail parties and symphony performances where people have time to take it all in.

Christian Audigier
The French designer offers his signature colorful rock-and-roll style design with a new collection of tattoo-inspired, cotton t-shirts and dresses. A favorite of celebs as wide ranging as Madonna to Marilyn Manson, Audigier’s clothes are playful and unapologetic.

Reminiscent of traditional Hollywood rock glam, they give wearers a license to party. So, be it an evening in the cavernous Teddy’s or a sail to Santori, Audigier is both comfortable and stylish.

Zac Posen
Fashion’s millennium prodigy, Posen took a trip to the '30s with his summer line, and brought back Art Deco. True to form, Posen’s show spared no flourish and delivered classics for those who enjoy clean design. I particularly loved this silk jersey tank and denim wide leg trouser combination. It’s classy, yet comfortable, and works for a hot summer night gallery opening. Alternatively, this monochromatic combination he calls a "prohibition waistcoat with cotton sateen holster shorts" gives a fashionable look for sightseeing in Sedona.

It seems so umpa-lumpaish!

Nice colors

I like the colors by Christian Audigier. The problem with designer clothing for me is that it is not made for vertically challenged women (as in under five feet tall). However, I can take those ideas and try to find pieces that have that sensibility.

thanks

for classing this place up with fine fashion. I'm down with posen's designs, love retooled historical references.

I do want to know where male high fashion may intersect with our dyke aesthetic?
there are a lot of GQ butches out in OC land.
