The Sisterhood of the Traveling Shirt

Back in April, OurChart member Hellina_Handbasket posted a call on our L Word forum:
"You know how Jennifer Beals always says that in some ways we are all connected? Well, I would like to SHOW her that this is true and yes, we are all connected. And because of our love for her and The L Word, we have come together on OurChart and become friends and have found that we are all truly connected in some way."
And that's how a plain white shirt started its five month journey to 22 states and four countries, gathering dozens of signatures and messages to Jennifer along the way.

Now the shirt has arrived here in Vancouver, and Jennifer showed it off to us on set today—everyone thinks it's amazing!

Hello from Vancouver where the clock is ticking away on our final days of filming The L Word Season 6.
Both Children's Hospital Los Angeles and the Matthew Shepard Foundation have asked me to express their sincerest gratitude for your generosity on their behalf. Together, we've raised $5,500 to directly support Children’s Hospital’s vital pediatric and family services, and we are $5,100 closer to advancing hate crimes legislation through the vision and guidance of the Matthew Shepard Foundation. Thank you.
We have just over $900 left to raise for the I Live Here Foundation before we meet our $5,000 goal. We’re in the homestretch – and so I’m reaching out once more, to see if we can rally like I know we can—to raise these remaining dollars by the time we officially wrap production on Monday, October 6th. That's just $150 per day. I know we can do it!
Please pass this link along to friends who might not have had a chance to read up on the incredible work that Mia's organization is doing, and consider making a donation. And I'll see you back here in early October with a final update on our efforts.

The I Live Here Foundation is dedicated to telling the stories of silenced and unheard people through a series of books and other media projects about our world. It establishes creative writing programs in areas where it works, building an artistic dialogue between strangers with the belief that art is a means of survival. Its first book, I Live Here, will be published by Pantheon Books in October 2008 and launched in conjunction with a creative writing program in Lilongwe, Malawi.
Coming in 2009: I Live Here begins its next series on books and launches a creative writing program within a brothel in Burma.

Scientists arent yet sure about the how and why
it seems also important that breast cancer is a disease which can be prevented
and its interesting to see how fast the doctors make an autopsie and in this way open that clumb and make the cancer grow faster and invade the whole breast
whereas if they observe and trigger the innate powers of woman and healing powers inside us...how th ebody fights it alone and is easily destroyed by our own powers
research has shown that it is so
but no money is given to this cause
only to the things with are promoting the operations and the doctors who are prognossing it and treating it fast...with operations...hm....
but if you ask University researchers and scientist doctors but who are in research - not in the hospital working and making a living out of it....hm....they tell you
the last 10 years its a profit field for docs...especially private docs and pharmaceutical companies which are in research for tablets and medicine for this ....hm....

dont get it all wrong....i am for - pro research ...just questioning all this fast cutting it all away processes - especially cutting away the glands - the bodies innate resistance and the place where all the resistance and cleaning happens....

i hope the shirt reached the philippines.. anyways.. i think its really amazing how connected we are with one simple thing, LOVE. the speach of jennifer beals in the GLAAD media awards while she was pregnant still lingers to my ears and to my heart when she pointed out that we are missing a lot without letting love in our hearts.. when she said go back there and try again.. just amazing how she said it.. it really hit me.. the best speach i heard in my life.. I would love to know what went through your head when you received the shirt. Were you flattered? Did you think it was weird? Just interested what went on in your head at the moment you openened the package. You really are the best. Jennifer, you really have been a good sport. Here you are this big Hollywood actress who is straight and have to deal with straight fans on a regular basis, but now you have this huge women fan base because of TLW. Instead of heading for the hills, you have embrassed the gay and lesbian community and I want to commend you for that. That means alot to the fans. I can not express how much I loved watching you on TLW, and I will miss you playing Bette Porter. You and Laurel been amazing together!! You can not imagine how exciting it's been the last six years watching the whole Tina and Bette storyline, I wish we could get more. But we will have good memories watching our L Word collection sets, and hopefully get to watch you on future shows and movies. I picture you playing some hot bi-sexual cop or detective on a show like CSI Miami, now that would be really cool I think :)
Well, whatever you do, I wish you all the best and will see you in Philly next month :)
