What OC Means to Me

There was a TV show a few years ago called The OC. Forget about it. OurChart is the only OC that means anything anymore.

OurChart came into existence because of this incredible community that coalesced and congregated around The L Word. You were always out there, but you came together with dynamic visibility and with many voices and opinions and ideas that seemed, in a way, unprecedented. We erected this space – OurChart – for Our Community – to give you a home, a destination, a place to engage and connect and refuel. We appointed it with our very best possessions from in and around The L Word world and from our world-at-large, with the thought that it would accommodate our many needs, interests, predilections and proclivities. As we go forward, as this project grows and evolves, I want to share with you some of things about which I’m most excited. You may have noticed, over the past month or so, that we’ve augmented our ranks. Grace Moon, who, as you know, has been blogging on OurChart for the last year, has brought her wealth of creativity and her breadth of knowledge and relationships from her flagship Velvetpark to head up OurChart’s editorial mission. Among other things, she’s brought the wonderful Diana Cage and her fierce, feminist, queer insights about sex and sexuality, politics and culture. In addition to some of the other new folks who have joined us recently – much more to come in the weeks ahead as we roll out this new design and a rich menu of new content to bolster it – much gratitude to Lisa Bang, who has been with us from the start. Lisa’s been the glue that’s kept Our Community getting along, fulfilling many roles seamlessly and often invisibly. Her presence on OurChart is ever vital as her role is expanding. And have you met Gigi Nicolas? Really met her? Gigi, who directed and produced all of the behind the scenes L Word pieces for Showtime, let us lure her to LA from Brooklyn. She’s going to continue to work with our L Word cast members (who love her) on many projects – like Kate Moennig’s moving My Address and the fantastic conversation between Jennifer Beals and Tobias Wolff. And Gigi’s already begun work on a slew of original shows for OurChart – Body Work with Leah Beckingham, and FYKE! , which is about to launch with fanfare and great, greasy, raunchy drama. Look for Gigi’s upcoming video profiles of all of the OurChart regular contributors, including Cynthia Galindo, who does a million things around the studio and still manages to pull off fabulous rock star interviews and great blogs about musical artists whom my daughters love as much as I do. Lindsay is still refusing to do one. And Lindsay’s the bomb. There would be no OurChart without Lindsay. Lindsay is the One Constant that keeps the OC On Course.

Lindsay and I are working on another OC. We call it The L Word OC. Can anyone guess what it is? If that’s Overly Coy, just sit tight for a little while and I’ll be blogging about it soon and inviting you all to take part.

I received a rsponse back from Showtime...

Yes, I wrote to Mr. Greenblatt supporting the L Word, and customer service wrote back stating it will be ending season 6, bla, bla, bla.....and she will forward my letter. Yes, I can not believe it neither. I am ready to cancel Shotime right now, but then I will have to order Showtime when season six comes back on. I am confused if it's just showtime, or if this is coming from the writers of the show and maybe some cast members....???? That they want to just end it. I don't remember in my life time people fighting to keep a show on the air. But this tells me that people love the show. So why would a network end it??? If the L Word really ends, I will never get addicted to another show again! This really sucks!!!! All the support the L Word is getting, Showtime should give it's viewers what they want, if not put it on another network like so many people have said. If it goes to HBO, I will order HBO that day! I will be so sad not to get to see Laurel Holloman and Jennifer Beals together, and I will miss Alice, she is so crazy funny. This has stressed me out beyond belief!

Let's take The L Word Online!!

Ilene,
Why do we have to accept the termination of OUR show? It is hard to believe that Showtime would want to end a show that is so successful, and it only indicates to me that the network executives are uninterested in the impact that the show is having on the lives of women all over the world. As Tina and Jenny said "this is our movie". Well, "TLW IS OUR SHOW"; we have all contributed to its success, and can continue to keep it alive if you take it online. I will gladly cancel my subscription to Showtime and contribute at least the same amount I was paying for Showtime for the production and online broadcast of each episode. I would be willing to bet that all the people who signed the petition will do the same.

Ilene, you broke new grounds with this show, and you have built a strong, passionate network who wants to help you (we demonstrated that in season 5). You have the audience, and the Internet is the perfect medium to transcend the limitations of traditional media outlets. Please explore this possibility and let us know how we can help you make it a reality.

I absolutely agree, "TLW is

I absolutely agree, "TLW is our show" and I would do everything necessary to save it!

Shane and Jenny

Five years is long enough, please make it happen, Shane and Jenny together!

Thank You

I just want to take the time to thank you for OC.

OC MEANS TO ME

Thank you,IC.

Through TLW,I searched here.and found my own blog, use englihs and chinese.I like here, although i am a new kid in this place.

I think it is a big world, actually the OC is .we come from diffrent country , maybe use english dont very proficient, because my country used languagt isnt english, but,we come to here, early or late.

Wish the place exist forever~

6º season

In the sixth season carmen has to return, she was the best...pleaseee!! I miss the pair that carmen and shane were doing...

SO Ilene have you ever considered???

I was talking to my friend tonight about the future of the internet, the multimedia markets and broadcasting. Have you ever considered taking the coup to the worldwide web? OC is a spring board into the future of selective entertainment and Broadcasting to a direct market. Personally I know I would pay to see the future of Tibette in podcast. Perhaps I am speaking out of turn with Season 6 on Showtime, But when will we stop being the slaves for the machine? I know the devil would be in the details with such an undertaking, just know I would love to be the first in line when THAT march begins.

Right behind you!

That is an awesome idea! Ilene, how about considering this? I'd be the second in line.

baby for beth!

beth needs to carry a child! it's what will show Balance, maturity and satisfaction in the bette n tina relationship. they are both strong, amazing women and beth still needs that final growth! go bette baby go! i'd cry so hard.

(n make jenny n shane hook up n live happily ever after! it totally makes sence)

i'm down with a baby for Beth

but how would that help Bette and Tina

Please no baby storyline for TiBette!

Posts from various messages boards ANTI-PREGNANCY for BETTE:

A baby to me would be a retread of Season 1 and 2. If they have a baby lets not see the pregnancy until the last episode.

Go to OurChart and say something! Please G-d no. No pregnancy

All we want is Alpha Bette. If I have to watch mopey morning sickness Bette I will vomit. I cannot watch an unsexy JB/Bette like season 3 again. I just cannot sit through it . Can't they think of something else? Dear god IC, Please!! Anything but another baby storyline!

I'm so serious. Everyone, get your asses to OurChart, do what the fuck you have to do. Bette CANNOT BE PREGNANT next season. It will ruin everything. It'll ruin my life. No babies! I am anti baby! Anti pregnancy! Anti anything that would get in the way of Tibette sex. I need JB's arms, abs, back and sexuality in my life. NO SEASON 3 REPEAT!

RIP Bette Porter. RIP The L Word. I'll just stop watching. This is too much! TOO MUCH!

If they do a pregnant Bette storyline, RIP Bette Porter. No more sex scenes. No arms. No back. No abs. They'll probably shave her head too while they're at it.

They're going to ruin Bette. Again. She's going to be preggers, lame, and mopey. No more fierce hotness. RIP. RIP Tibette heat.

I'm really upset right now. This isn't even remotely funny.

If Bette gets preggers..I'll..I'll..I'll do nothing but mourn the days of S1 Bette.

Another TiBette pregnancy would be enough to make me invest in the company that makes Tom's buckets

I can't find the humor in this. I don't think I can go to sleep tonight. I can't live with a season of Bette being pregnant.. Someone start a thread, petition, whatever you crazy kids do over at OurChart. No pregnant Bette. We want to see JB's sexiness. I can't live with another Season 3. I really can't. What the fuck is wrong with IC? How fucking stupid can one person be?

Hey could at least focus first on getting married or something. ANYTHING that still allows for Tibette sex and JB's body parts to be revealed. Then they can talk about adopting or Bette getting pregnant in the finale for us to imagine.

I think they need to achieve some balance in the relationship prior to makin' more babies.

WHY oh WHY

I give up, I just get used to the fact that there is something I like watching, now it's going away.
Why are you leaving us....... oh why..........

Good Luck Sisters!!!!

Series Final Season

Are you returning to Vancouver to film the Series last season? I have heard rumours that you will NOT be returning to Van and moving it down to shoot completely in LA.

bloopers on OC?

Hey Ilene,
I reckon you should The L word Bloopers on Ourchart. Everyone asks for it - I think I right in saying by "everyone" I'm including at least some of the cast as well? Just an idea anyway....

Kate

Can you explain to me

Why you feel the need to film this show with exactly one lightbulb? I've turned the brightness up on my TV but to no avail. Every time someone is indoors on this show we're completely unable to see them. Even owls couldn't make out their faces. For the last 6 or 3.12 episodes you feel like making, could you please film them with a real studio lamp so there is justice for their hotness?

"Would I rather be feared or loved? Um... Easy, both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me."

maybe yalls TVs suck

I can see the eps fine but I usually watch on a hd

Huh?

I have no problems in seeing the screen, and yes there is shadow present in some shots but that is all about composition and telling the story.

The L Word has a fantastic DP who gives us lighting that makes sense as part of the story - ie: Moon, Lamps, Sun etc etc etc... They are using studio lights.

I give the DP full credit because the effect is from great to gorgeous.

Best Question of the Year

I thought I was the only person who could barely see my tv. Why is the lighting so low? And who do I have to talk to to donate to the L Word lighting fund. Wow. It's like the stage is in a cave, and I thought they shot in Vancouver.

Woo Hoo! Personal attacks getting pulled!

Thank you Lisa and all the other OC staffers for pulling the personal attacks that took place over the weekend in this thread!

Illegitimi non carborundum

but i love the OC too

comment policy

Apologies for the delayed response on this - as Grace mentioned yesterday, we have limited moderating capabilities on weekends. We're working on that.

Our full Community Guidelines are available here, and this is the short version of our comment policy:

Unless something is in clear violation of our Terms of Service, we don't censor comments that are factually incorrect or contain unpopular opinions - instead, our policy is to leave these comments on the site and allow the community to speak for themselves, to educate each other, and yes, to argue.

However, we do ask that critical arguments be presented in a respectful manner, free of personal attacks against other OurChart members. There's a lot that we still need to dig through in this thread, and if we do find comments containing personal attacks, threats, or continued harassment of specific members, those comments will be removed and warnings will be issued (via private message) to those who made them.

Those are OurChart's guidelines, but Minniesota54 also offered some excellent advice for discussing controversial topics, which I'm quoting here:

Address the thoughts/content/issue, not the person.

Words to live by. And to the rest of you whose comments remain respectful and constructive - thanks for that, and keep it up. We're glad you're all here...even when you don't get along.

"the oc"

the only thing i know about "the oc" is that it was spoofed on the simpsons. (or wait, was it family guy?) anyway, it was hilarious - the oc kids traipsing around some kind of theme park with one of the mascots, and then the mascot takes them to an atm at gunpoint and robs them. all while the terrible oc theme song "california" is blaring, all extra diegetic.

so, yeah. i don't think anyone will associate "OC" with anything but OurChart, ever again ; )

Question To IC

Dear Ilene
Thank you and all the Ladies for the amazying Show
One request for the Big Season 6 Finale bring Carmen back to Shane....
Thank you from all over Europe xpecially from Lisbon Portugal...
Sharmen Forever
You can say I a Dreamer but Im not the Only One...

did someone say

something about an Lword petition? lol... goodness.

It's SPAM!

And if you respond to spam by following it's instructions you only encourage more:(

hmm

so, when I hit the REPORT THIS button I was doing the right thing? lol... goodness. Hmm where'd I put that choco pie?

What the OC means to me

The OC used to be a place to come for fun. Now I realized it's the place to bring any dead horses you want beaten.

Lately the OC is the place to keep arguing with folks who really don't care what your opinion is; they would rather keep arguing.

This is a broad statement meant to cover a multitude of topics and not only the one that has taken over this thread. It's also not limited to one side or the other.

PS: PETA folks. That was a frackin metaphor. Don't even start with me.

Your friend,
Rusty

I vote for chocolate cream

I vote for chocolate cream pie!

hey Ladies its a Sunday Morning...

what happened to a day of rest? Can we all un-bunch our knickers for a day. OC will address our guideline issues shortly.

For cryin' out loud it's one of our LAST L word Sundays, can we all relax, watch TV, then have sex or at least dream about it, and re-group on Monday morning.

love ya, Moon

what the oc means to me

this song came to mind considering the way this blog has gone.

A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they’d be happy for a while.

But february made me shiver
With every paper I’d deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn’t take one more step.

I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died.
...........................
He was singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where I’d heard the music years before,
But the man there said the music wouldn’t play.

And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
But not a word was spoken;
The church bells all were broken.
And the three men I admire most:
The father, son, and the holy ghost,
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died.

And they were singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."

They were singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die."

Don McLean... Amerian Pie

Now THAT's the best bit of

Now THAT's the best bit of advice I've seen, thank you Grace.

My discussion guidelines

The following are Minnie's 10 personal guidelines for discussing controversial topics:

1. Address the thoughts/content/issue, not the person.
2. Keep an even-handed tone.
3. Separate facts from opinions.
4. Seek to have an informed opinion.
5. Stay opened minded to good arguments or good points even if I may disagree with the other person.
6. Understand that it may get emotional.
7. Re: no. 6, in cyberspace, count to 25 before posting anything rash.
8. In cyberspace, always remember there is a real person (I assume) behind the screen.

Now, I'm going outside to play because it is too nice of a day to stay inside.

good guidelines...

Hey Minnie, those are good guidelines. By the by, did you hear Minnie Driver is pregnant??? If you don't know, the number one story we're talking about on OC is "Minnie is pregnant"- a few of us (me, and at least one other person) thought it was you.

I saw it

Yes, I saw the "Minnie is pregnant" headline. And now I wonder, who is going to help me out with the child care expenses? Also, I have a jealous cat on my hands, hah.

editor

lets start the rumor

that Minnie-sota54 is pregnant. I like that headline much better. ;)

ROFLMAO !!!

I almost dropped my laptop laughing, lol.

Rumors

I love rumors! I'm going to enhance the rumor by claiming that Grace Moon is the father of my baby. ;-)

What the hell?

Okay, Grace, I stay away on Sundays - but never again! Minnie, you told me I was the father!!!!!!! What the hell? I'm all for compromise - I think the name Tex Minnie-Moon is kinda cute!

Nothing but love

Tex

minnie and grace sitting in a tree...

now that you're expecting a few tips...jealous cats have to go, something about their litter boxes and toxemia, you can eat chocolate pie, but not too much.. and how about minnie-moon as a last name.

good discussion/ bad discussion

Let me say this before I begin-My comment is a question in search of an answer-meaning I'm not sure what my position is. That said- How much policing or overseeing do we want on OC? When does an opinion go too far and become an attack? We've got two groups (or so it seems) feeling that two posters have been attacked and bullied. Ca. Medicine Woman is asking for some help from the OC editors-I believe the editors at least need to address her concerns. They should say what their going to do, even if their not going to do anything. I also believe that a good ol' knock down dragged out debate can be healthy. I spent hours debating race and racism with Rovermom one Sunday- and I had a helluva good time (she did too, even if she doesn't admit it). I still think she is wrong and I'm sure she still thinks she's right(smile).
Sometimes, as is the case between Ripley and Ca. Medicine Woman, the debate gets funky. As a community many of us validated, supported, backed, Ca. Medicine. Some of us took hits for it-I'm sure the same thing happened with Ripley's defenders.

I don't know where I'm going with this. but words hurt folks, and Ca. Medicine Woman has been hurt by words posted by a community that claims to be tolerant and loving. I don't think OC needs to be policed by someone up high, I think we all need to educate ourselves by opening our hearts to people who "aren't like us". When we do wrong, admit it, when we hurt someone, apologize.

While Ripley and I disagree

While Ripley and I disagree on any number of things, and while some of her comments tend to spark a debate between us, albeit a somewhat spirited one, debates and challenging positions and views is part of how each of us learns from one another. Ripley and I need not agree on any particular thing to be civil with one another, nor to be respectful of each others' views and positions. So long as the debate does not cross the line into bigotry and personal attacks (which I have clearly defined elsewhere in this thread), it's all good.

But when certain members of this site choose to resort to name calling, insults, ridicule, false accusations, bullying, and in one case what is now appearing to be stalking, a very clear line between debating an issue and personal attacks is crossed. It appears Ripley was the first attacked personally, which explains why she has not returned to post a rebuttal comment to my reply to her original post. The attack(s) occurred before I came across the thread and posted my reply to her, something I did not realize until a bit later. Both myself and Rovermom addressed one particular and obvious personal attack against Ripley directly, resulting in an apology being posted to everyone here. I and others do not have to agree with Ripley's more, um, controversial views to understand that she has the right to express them, and we have the right to rebuttal, without fear of being personally attacked by those who agree or disagree with one side of an issue or the other.

Lord knows I would love to have seen the debate between Monsoons and Rovermom on racial issues. It is always interesting to watch a good debate, especially if there was something to be learned by it.

Hopefully this whole mess will be cleaned up tomorrow, as indicated by Grace above, and an atmosphere of civility and tolerance can be re-established. While I wish that it weren't necessary for the site to be policed by OC staffers, it is quite obvious, based on some of the highly offensive personal attacks that I and others have reported, that such policing is necessary in order to maintain the civility and tolerance we all seek here.
