Possibly, Maybe, the Wedding of the Year?

OK, I usually don't get too riled up about celebrity outings, but I have to admit to being totally taken in by BET.com's headline, Queen Latifah to Marry Girlfriend. Even if the post does go on to reference "word on the street" rather than an official announcement. And even though their source, MediaTakeOut.com, wouldn't say where they got the news, only that "we're 100% sure on this one."
MediaTakeOut says that Latifah and her girlfriend of four years, personal trainer Jeanette Jenkins, are officially engaged and planning to announce it publicly once the Queen is finished promoting her new movie, The Perfect Holiday (not to be confused with her previous movie, Last Holiday).
And to be fair, what they actually posted is that the two are "OFFICIALLY ENGAGED!!!" - so it should be noted that internetz shouting doesn't always go hand-in-hand with hard-hitting journalism. But it sure seems like a good fit for this week's Page Six blind item on a big Hollywood actress who's about to come out of the closet.
If the rumors are for real, Latifah can head to her hometown in New Jersey, where gay civil unions are legal. And once the wedding's out of the way, they can get to work on the "18 babies" the Queen wants to have. Bring on the princes and princesses Latifah!

My Queen is out?
Why does anyone really care? Why does it have to become an instant newsclip when someone comes out or are found out or whatever? Why can't we just be who we are and/or our sexuality not be an issue or become news worthy just because we aren't hetero? I don't think I will ever understand this.
