December 9, 2007 - 12:00pm — ileneThank you to all FOTLW (that would be, Friends of The L Word) who have joined us on OurChart over the course of this last year, offering support and opinions, encouragement, enthusiasm, analysis, criticism and a fair amount of spleen. It’s thanks to all of you that the 5th season of The L Word goes to some of the places it goes. It’s thanks to you that we (The L Word writers and producers) made many of the decisions we made and explored certain particular facets of character and relationship. And so, it’s to thank you that we are streaming the first episode of our new season on OurChart beginning the night of December 30th, 2007, one week before it airs on Showtime.
There are a few things we want you to know about this event. First, the technical:
The version of episode 501 that we are streaming for you is the TV14 version. You will notice that some language and certain other features that you are accustomed to if you watch The L Word on Showtime have been toned down. (That is to say, blurred, bleeped or otherwise abridged.) Please know that this is not by our choice and has to do with regulations and corporations and limitations in the digital universe. The online show is still really great and sexy – and if you want to see the full, unexpurgated version, watch again on Showtime on Sunday, January 6th.
We know that many of our international users are anxious about whether the episode will be available to them in their countries. Sadly, as of right now, it will not. Again, this has to do with contractual obligations beyond our control. We worked hard to try to lift the restrictions, but in the end we were not able to. We are still working to come up with a solution, and in the meantime we are brainstorming a consolation prize for our cherished friends in other countries. Keep checking back, because we’re going to come up with something very, very cool. Suggestions welcome.
Now, the substance:
Season 5 picks up just a few weeks after season 4 left off – in other words, seamlessly. The first episode is – as first episodes so often are – as much about wrapping up old story lines as beginning new ones. After five years, we feel a sense of duty to these characters and to the journeys on which we’ve taken them. We have a lot of characters and a lot of stories to service, (I know – some of you think, too many…) and an eagerness that we know is also shared by many of you to get on with things and to get where we want to go. We just want you to know that it’s not all going to happen in episode 501. Stay with us. Good as it already is, it keeps on getting better.
Just my opinion: This is our best season ever.
There will be ever more healthy, life-sustaining, mind-enhancing supplements on OurChart in the coming weeks. In the three weeks leading up to episode 501 (which, by the way, is called “LGB Tease”), we will ramp and amp up the behind-the-scenes podcasts, on-air promos that Showtime is sharing with us and other added features relating to all-things-L Word. All throughout the season, we will continue to provide these features as well as our weekly podcasts featuring production stories and insights about each individual show. Near the end of The L Word season, we will be announcing an ongoing schedule of L Word and non-L Word related events, both live and on-line, and we hope you will join us for any and all that are of interest.
I’m pretty sure season 5 is the sexiest, funniest, cleverest, most romantic and most consummate season of The L Word, to date. Just how I feel about it…
We will be unveiling a slew of new content, original programming, social networking functionality and design improvements over the course of the next three months.

Despite my enthusiasm, we are open to criticism of The L Word season 5. Let us know what you think, keep the pressure on and keep your support high and hot so that we get to do a season 6 that’s better still.

Jenny and Shane
I hate that Shane did that to Jenny. They were the best of friends. I hope that they make up next season even though Jenny does not forgive people very easily.
season 5's ups and downs
*I did not like that Bette took forever to get back with Tina, she should have just been honest instead of stringing Jody along. Tina and Bette belong together despite everything that went bad in their relationship. But at the end they grew and found out they really love each other and belong together and that's what matters.
*What Shane did to her so called best friend Jenny was down right dirty! Should never happened. Nicki, I was actually liking her, now I don't! But I will love to see Jenny and Shane makeup. But Shane will really have to prove herself.
*I would love to see Alice and Helena together. I think these two can be really hot together. I liked them hanging out after Alice's breakup with Dana. I thought they would get together then.
I think season six should be about relationships. Lovers (tina & bette) and friends really coming together. I would love to see everyone grow up and stop being so self centered. Putting lovers and friends first. Unity. If we are going to have to end in season six :( I want to see real happiness. Boy, I hate the thought of season six ending! It's making me want to cry already just thinking about it. I still have faith that just maybe, Showtime will give us more then just season six. I already have Tibette withdraw. I have to say I seen some pictures on Gladd site with Jennifer and Laurel, these two are just as exciting to watch off air as on. I know they are both married to men but I just love seeing them together. Even off camera they just seem to have such chemistry together, it's the cutest thing to watch.

The season was great, only the end was a bit disaapointing, it didn't answer as much questions as I wished it would.
But never before has a couple been so wonderful to watch, more of that with wonderful Mia/Kate French chemistry

Oh how I wish things between Jenny and Nikki work... I love this Jenny, she's so in love and full of life. It's great to see her happy she totally deserves it after all she's been through. I love the chemistry between Mia and Kate... it's amazing. So I hope my wish comes true! hehehe

But...
Did you notice how even MORE full of life she was when she was announcing the "someone" that she was "madly in love with" (clearly not Niki, or else she would have said Niki or at least "her" after asking where Niki was)??? She seemed even MORE stable and free.

Clearly confused
Prior to that moment there was another 40 or so minutes of the show that had just passed. Perhaps you missed the Tina and Jenny scene, but it was obvious from that scene alone, that Jenny still loved Niki.
Also, Niki is in the closet, that's what the whole storyline has centered around. Tina told Jenny that it's hard for Niki (to be gay in Hollywood), and Jenny replied that it was hard for her because her career is in ruins. Jenny had an epiphany of love, but realised her loved one could have her career ruined (like her own) if she says her name in public. Jenny finally realised what it's like to lose everything, and she didn't want that to happen to Niki. To say "Niki" out loud, as the person she loves, at the wrap party would have been plain stupid. It would have only caused more problems and it could have outed Niki.
But notice how she called "Niki" when not in the spotlight, and goes looking for her after her epiphany of love. This only serves to prove that Jenny loves Niki. Because if one has an epiphany of love, the first person one tells is the person they love.
I would recommend watching the Jenny video on the main page, "I'm madly in love with somebody", cuts straight to Jenny and Niki kissing. Boooo ya!

I'm neither pro or really anti Shenny (even if i would prefer a no traditionnal love story for shenny).
But lets see the other possibility :
Shenny decide to close up her relation with Nicky.
She ask where she is, to know if she's going to hear what she wants to say or not.
She says "deeply in love with someone", bvut except her nobody can know who it is really, maybe it's God (i hope no !!)
But maybe she is searching Nickky to really tell her that she beraks, remind you : we don't have seen any explanation scene beetween Jenny and Nicky since Jenny were out of the set... (except if one occurs when i was in the WC)I think this option is allmost believable as the Nikky-Jenny love story one...
I think the final épisode is quite open to let the ability to the writers to choose and not be totally bound with predictable followings for next episodes...
I think Jenny will go back to men
cuz women have done nothing but break her heart.... she will question her sexuallity and just like in the movie Les Girls - she will go back to dudes... I think it was a bit of foreshadowing... that's my monday morning quarterback analysis.

You have a good point with the foreshadowing and it is completely possible that Jenny will go back to men. But i know for myself that i have had my heart broken plenty of times by women and i wouldnt go back to men for anything!

but sometimes lesbians do that - get on the pendulum and ride it for dear life until it stops swinging... If I were Jenny, or the writers, that would be a possibility. I do think they left the door open for that to happen with the circumstances at the end of the last epi.
Hate crimes
In the last season I think the writers should include a story-line about hate crimes...A 15 year-old boy is murdered in this school for being gay......... Let's cut the glam a bit and tackle this very serious and tragic matter!

It's important to touch on that. While Ilene has created a very insular world, it isn't untouched by hatred - it can't be. Jennifer said in an interview that she would like the see Bette be victimised in some sort of hate crime, and I think she would be the perfect choice...
Jodi's piece
was a hate crime (kind of) totally humiliating her in front of everyone - and just as in a hate crime - the hater will pay a price for the hate, but I think Jodi's vengeance was a hate crime but not in the text book sense of the term.
I know what you mean though. What I like about Lword is that it's NOT political or current. It is an insular world where we the audience can immerse ourselves freely and without reference to current cultural issues.

I don't care what anyone else says, I love this couple...look how much fun Shane is having since Molly's been on...she's smiling all the time.
Let Shane be happy with someone at the end, & why not with Molly...they are so cute & hot together. Shane & Molly have so much chemistry when they kiss it looks like Kate & Clementine are really kissing...(I'm starting to wonder...LOL!!)

I've read several times that Kate likes to do scenes quickly, love/sex scenes that is. Kate approved of Rosanne Arquette for that same reason, & Sarah Shahi,...so great huge props to Clemetine for clearly liking that pace too!!!!!! I like Clemetine, & I get strong vibes from Kate that she likes Clementine too,..they seem to click somehow!! I would have a huge `envy' problem with Kate getting or being with anyone,..due to the fact that I am a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE Kate fan,......the chick is supremely HOTTTTTT!!!!!!!!,...however,.....having said that,...if it were Clemetine,....that I could deal with,....!!!!!!!!,..if I can't have Kate...then Clementine,..yeah,..I'm alright with that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this season and next
so i'm only in high school and am a younger view of the show, which i love, but here are my thoughts. i agree with most here that TiBette needs to continue, and that they should be/ stay together. they're just so in love i don't know where else it could lead. even though i hated jenny at the beginning of the season, i actually LOVE her and nikki together, but nikki needs to i guess grow up a little. if they were to break up though, marina should definetly step back into the picture...i have loved her since season 1 and wish she were still on...she was such a good character. but i think it would also be sweet if nikki and jenny made it...basically jenny needs some happiness with all the stuff that's happened in her life. o i'm psyched helena is coming back all bad ass and tough, because i agree she was making negative changes in her character and demeanor as the show progressed through the seasons...the whole weakness thing with her wasn't that sweet. i also love shane and molly, and honestly shane needs a good heart-breaking because i feel like nothing has really happened with her. alice and tasha i think are great but jodi i feel just gets in the way of TiBette, and i'm not to keen on that. oh, and adele freaks me out, and i hope she leaves, and one last thing with 510 is that nikki should definetly not be hitting on shane, i don't think her character would really go for jenny's best friend, espeically if they're so in love.
well that's my piece on the season and the relationships.
if the show is going to end soon in a few seasons, then i think there should some strong relationships to end it with like TiBette, alice/tasha, jenny/ nikki(or marina haha) but the show should end with some happiness.

Alice has a mouth like the Holland tunnel. She really needs to learn to keep schtum! I adore Tashas laugh, it's totally obscene lol and I think she's made a mistake in wanting to move in with Alice. That relatonship has disaster writen all over it!
I'm increasingly disliking Niki - why the fuck is she cracking on to Shane yet voicing her undying love for the Schecter? I feel bad for Jenny because I really think she's sincere in her feelings for Niki - there has to be a Season 6 because I want to know what happens with Shane and Jennys friendship once she catches Shane going down on Niki.
Bette and Tina have annoyed me since Season 1. They are both completely screwed up and seem to damage everyone around them. They deserve each other though because all they care about is there own happiness. Jodie did not deserve to be treated like that and even though Alice has a big mouth I agree with what she said about Bette being a serial cheater.
Yay for Helena coming back though to sort those she bitches out. The whole "lover Cindy" Double D thing is boring.

Alice really cared about Tonya's feelings when she was f*cking Dana behind her back, or perhaps she was really caring about Phyllis' husband's feelings when she was allowing Phyliss to EHO. Let's face it, these CHARACTERS (ALL) are seriously flawed. The only exception may be Tasha. She seems to be grounded (although uptight at times).

Tibette are the ones that right from season one have been out for there own happiness. Look at all the people from the begining of the show who've been hurt someway or another by their actions.
You're right Rover everyone cheats with Alice and my only reasons for saying that her relationship with Tasha doesn't seem real from her side of things is because of a spoiler I saw of her kissing someone else AFTER everything Tasha did to be with her!?!? I hope that they do stay together because Tasha has done so much for her and I really like them as a couple. They work so well together.
I'm glad there's a season 6 though - even if it is a short run. It'll help tie up any lose ends.

WOAH...She didn't say anything about Alice's feelings of others. And you re right, they are ALL flawed, even Tash - it's what makes them real and loooooveable and then makes you want to throw your sock at the TV. Alice is not the cheater, she is the one who people end up cheating with.

I had seen Shane as being the grounded one and who could keep the cool, but the character is human and I think Tash is the same.
When I saw the scene of her sitting there at 6pm, and experiencing it without belonging to anything, and also seeing her lay in the tent thinking - I saw my brother and how he responded right after getting out of the Air Force. He took the time out to discover himself again - and the family allowed him to, because it's a dramatic change. Tash's dynamics are going to get good.
Ilene....please consider a spin-off with the Tasha character. It's a WHOLE new world with her. And a good opportune! Maybe Meffle could be one of your writers...

Something new for shane
I like shane with her new girl...they're cute and all...But i want to see something new...Shane's never been with a big girl. It would be nice to see shane hook up with, or at least show interest in heavier set girl. I'm in love with Shane (i realize that she's just a character, but I can't help myself) and this would be an amazing episode to me...hmmm
L-word
I really felt that this season allowed us to go deeper into the lives of the characters. It was like a preview of who they each where on a personal level. We got to see some of the cast vulnerabilites and their softer sides. NOw i wanna see them grow as the figure out how to balance being out from under their comfort zone. which is were season 5 leaves us. Im looking forward to season 6 and many more to see how it continues. On season 6 i want Tina and Bette married of course. I think the L-word she also explore the strains of what its like for a interracial couple as Alice and Tasha from two differant worlds to unite. I think that will be awesome. I also would like to see Max finally come to turns of who he is . I want Shane to be able to get to a place that she understands herself and can begin to heal.

I just so happen to like that bitchy part of Jenny. I also like it when she gets a little bossy. My opinion is that she is hot, sexy and makes the show. I also like Molly and I hope Shane has met her match. As for Tina and Bette I hope they do get back together. I believe that they have both played the cheated card and now it's time to forgive, forget and just love each other. I love the show and when I can't be home to watch... I record.

Well, Ilene, you asked about the Jenny/Nikki...here are my thoughts!
I've never been a huge Jenny fan. However, I think what she feels for Nikki is real. I do NOT think that it's the same for Nikki, however. She seems really fake. Or maybe it's that she's really young. I think that Jenny forgets that sometimes and, as hard as it is for me to admit, she has matured a lot since the first season. I think that a lot of what Jenny does is an act for reactions because she enjoys getting reactions from people. Inside, however, I don't think she's all that different from the girl that fell in love with Marina. Speaking of Marina, I think that through Jenny's direction of the movie we are getting a picture of just how she felt about Marina. Her feelings were much deeper than I had ever realized. I have enjoyed that aspect of Jenny's character this season.

Bette and Tina
I am a huge fan of TiBette and really want to see them back together. I felt both relief and empathy for Jodi when Bette, by her silence, admitted that she cheated on her. Tina running away was her way of admitting her part in the infidelity. The truth had to come out. As someone who has been back and forth with a partner that I was in a long term relationship with that did include infidelity, love can be rekindled. You have your problems, you may break up, but sometimes the love never dies and the reconciation lasts. I can understand how Tina feels the need to try to be with Bette again and how Bette stil loves Tina and wants to be with her again. I was a little disappointed that Tina and Bette did not talk that night or the next morning. They didn't even go near each other on the ride home. Their situation reminds me of an old Olivia Newton-John song "Please Don't Keep Me Waiting"...

What I want for season 6!
1.Tina and Bette move back in together and rekindle their realtionship. Bette will propose to Tina to proof how serious she is about their relationship. Their wedding will be the grande finale for the show and on the side we get to know some background ifo on Tinas family ;-)
2. Alice and Tasha will experience a detour in their relationship. Their lives start to develop differently. (Hope I said it right not being a native speaker) Alices continuously growing success in the media world will clash with Tashas down-to-earth personality. Tasha will get to know another woman (I hope its gonna be Radha Mitchell - I wanna see her on L-word) In the end I hope Alice and Tasha will work it out and have steamy reconciliation-sex ;-)
3.Shane and Jenny get together. After some drunken night Shane and Jenny end up in bed together and start a "meaningless" affair.
Shane and Jenny start to notice that they are more than just friends who have sex and that they actually do have feelings for each other which will be hard for them to admit. I really think they fit together. They are both very open-minded about the faithfulness-issue, they tend to be self-destructive and therefor know where they are coming from, they share the same humour, they are able to be competely honest with each other and last but not least they will be HOT together :-)
5. The planet wont stay in Denbos hands but will somehow get back to Kit probably with Helenas help.
6.Nikki will leave. She is cute but too playful and ambiguous for a serious relatioship yet.
7.Molly will also leave. The whole crush-for-the straight-girl story was great and I loved to see Shane and Molly tease each other but I just dont see them as a couple. Molly probably doesn´t want to move to LA for Shane and Shane doesn´t want to leave LA for her.
Gosh, I am so glad that there will be a season6 after all. I would´ve been so bummed if there are only two more episodes to go!!!! And I am very curious to see what Ilene Chaiken, Angela Robertson and all the others from the L-word will produce after the L-word. I hope its gonna be as great!!!

season 5 and hopes for season 6
what a season: sexy, glamour, splash by Love and Treason, with a touch of mystery!
I totally think that this the best season ever.
But at the end there is still the filling that we are missing something. Look at the 3rd season of House the dialogue are so ansome, evereyone is moving a step further from who they where. It's quit the same in season 5 of the L word but:
The number of episode, 12 can't be enought to really get into it and start playing with the caracter, more in the inside with the dialogue. Keep the sexy/sex and go a step further in the complexcity of each caracter. I fill like if I was watching only a preview, even when I'm watching the full episode. Maybe that's the thing with season 5, it's a good start and season 6 will have to be the real accomplishement of it. But to be really honest I don't think that in 8 episodes they will be able to do so, they will need to have 24ep per season to go furhter in each caracter.
So at the question:
what do you expect of the L word for the season 6?
The answer will be:
More episode, more second degre in dialogue and most of all I would love to finish watching the series with the impression that we are done, that the caracters had lived, had loved, had suffered and had growned to become part of the L word final!
Please be good fuckers and let us have a really huge orgasme all together watching this last season.

rumors about season 6
iam hoping that this is just a rummor and not fact, i work on a tv show as a coordnator , and at the end of each season they say its the last , we are ending 7 in 3 weeks , and and just found out again that we are coming back for another season!
