For those who have not heard about Rep. Sally Kern and her disgusting homophobic speech...
I received this email:
"Hi,
Did you hear about the speech by the Oklahoma State
Representative, where she says gays are worse than terrorists?
The speech was secretly taped, and it was just released on the
Internet. She says, among other incredibly offensive things,
that:
- "The homosexual agenda is destroying this nation."
- "No society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted
for more than, you know, a few decades."
- "What's happening now is they're going after, in schools,
2-year-olds"
This is dangerous and unacceptable behavior from an elected
leader, especially when anti-GLBT hate crimes are on the rise.
Will you take a moment to take action? Just go to
http://www.hrcactioncenter.org/campaign/ok_rep_sally_kern_cen
to send a letter to Oklahoma's governor and top lawmakers asking
them to condemn these remarks.
Thank you!

Sally Kern has told her supporters to vote in this poll. FIGHT against them.

This is a similar story about a Conservative MP from Regina who was caught on video saying that he hates gays because we all carry diseases under our fingernails.
I have to stop and point out
I have to stop and point out here that I'm very disappointed with the fact that on so many GLB websites [ask me why I don't include the T in that if you're curious because I have reasons] Sally Kern's diatribe is mentioned without any reference to her bigoted statements about Islamophobia. She specifically identifies gays as being 'worse than Islam' which is more than an attack on queers, its an assumption that Islam is a threat. It is commendable that people like Ellen are calling her out for being a bigot but our best collective response would be to highlight BOTH her fucked up assumptions here, even for those of us who aren't Muslim. We live in an Islamophobic culture and its time we took action.
T?
So I have to ask...."why don't you include the T?" and yes...Islamophobia is pretty awful but unfortunately it can really bring in the votes.
I don't add the T because I
I don't add the T because I don't think most GLB organizations are transfriendly enough to have the right to use it, most of the time it's very tokenistic..
Also, some trans people have told me they find it odd because it conflates gender identity with sexuality. Trans people's sexual attractions are gay, bisexual, straight, queer etc, so in the land where these are the labels, trans people are possibly included in GLBQ, or if they're not, they might not necessarily care to conflate their struggles with GLBQ ones because they're heterosexual even if they are also heterosexual trans people.
Go Ellen!
Ellen DeGeneres mentions Sally in her show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBmCA4z8Yzc
Amazing
I just watched your youtube video, and all I can say is you nailed it. Thank you
Thanks, Sally Kern
I made a video on Youtube in response to Sally's speech. Check it out:

Actually, there are quite a few really good responses on youtube.
Thank you
Beautiful video. I can't believe some of the things she was saying. Absolutely appalling. And worse is there are support groups for her. Then again, there are many more people who are offended by her comments than willing to defend her.
