Ty for the add. It is much more special when you haven't added every chick in sight on OurChart, as well. :) I always appreciate your insightful comments, especially given your medical expertise. Good luck with the cooking! :)

drunrchick, thanks for the friends invite. Your medical/science background makes for an interesting change of perspective in some of these posts. Looking forward to reading more.

Hi Lisa. Hope all is well with you and yours. Love the pictures of your cats! How many more years do you have of this rough schedule of yours? I read one of your posts and I was like, "OMG!" TTYL. :) Peace, Jodie

Hey Jodie, good to hear from you! I have more pictures to add, when I get around to it. The schedule gets incrementally better each year, and as of July 1, I start the 3rd year of my fellowship, reducing my on-call time by a third - yay! The worst is over, until I take my first faculty position and start at the bottom of the totem pole again...How are your furry family members? I was thinking of you and our past conversation as my cat was snuggling up to my sweaty self after a run yesterday...
Take care,
Lisa

Lisa! Sorry so long to respond. I've just been busy with my shop and life. That is some serious dedication, what you are doing. Right on.

My girls are doing really good, thanks for asking. I love them so much, but I'm sure you understand.

Wait, ok...you are thinking of me when your cat is snuggling up next to your sweaty you? SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET. Ha! :) Peace, Jodie

It's great you're out at work. I'm not. I am a chemotherapy nurse and our patients put so much trust in us, I wouldn't want them to feel uncomfortable around me.

April 6, 2008 - 10:17am

That's why I evade the personal questions around patients. I think they just genuinely care and want to know that their doctor/nurse/caregiver is human and has someone to take care of them. However, I don't ever want a parent to be uncomfortable when their kid comes running up to hug me, or teen to not trust me when I need to examine her. They've placed their lives in our hands.

Hi!

good for you! i think being out at work or anywhere is good to feel youself better. sometimes you can meet people or patients in this case that are disgree or whatever with it but i think that should not be a problem... if I stop for a sec and think... Why shold my patients know about my sexuality? and, in case they know it... I'm goona be the same professional.
I know is not that easy. step by step.

See you soon!

hi! I read one of your comments. I'm a med student wanting to be a pedi-oncologist (starting residency in july, actually), and I've been worried if being gay would interfere with how my patients would relate to me. I was considering maybe going into NICU instead if this would be a problem.
But thank you for being brave and out and paving the way for those of us who will follow.

Hey, good luck to you! I forgot the Match just happened this month. Hope you got your 1st (or best) choice :)
As for subspecialties, I loved NICU, but wanted longer-lasting relationships with my patients. That is a blessing and a curse, and not just in terms of the "risk" of being out to patients/families...Cancer families can be uber crazy. Either way (H/O vs NICU), you'll work your butt off.
If you need to vent with anonymous "family" who's been there during residency, type at me any time. It is painful but awesome.
